Background

Kieran Lee is a Corellian Nerf Herder. No, really. He grew up on his parents' small ranch in the backcountry of Corellia, the second of four boys. It was a pastoral childhood in more than the literal sense, as it let Key get outside and learn to drive speeders, and deal with the big shaggy nerfs, and run around with other boys his age. He speedered in to a rural school nearby, and learned to repair speeders and to fly them at home. He grew up with stories of the Civil War that ended just before he was born, and came to idolize another Corellian, the only man to fly against two Death Stars and survive: Wedge Antilles. He decided to join the New Republic Navy... just in time for it to be downsized. Still, he went to the Corellian Naval Academy, graduating in the top quarter of his class despite his love for the excitement and debauchery of Corellia's dive bars. Mostly, his success was because he was, at heart, a nerd. A math nerd, in fact. Still is, although its faded somewhat with disuse. Still comes in handy for astrogation and writing up deals though. On his first mission with the New Republic, he got a little too close to a pirate corvette, and had to eject after his ship was hit by turbolaser fire. He was lucky to survive with a scar over his left eye, but the experience drove him to sharpen his skills even further so it would never happen again.

After serving a tour with the New Republic's Lancer's Squadron in old T-70s, he was let go upon further downsizing. In order to pay the bills, Key picked up a job at Incom-FreiTek as a test pilot and product representative, helping with the final development of the T-85 and selling it to the New Republic Navy and (rich) local defense forces. Really it's just an excuse to seek out excitement in the name of 'product demonstrations,' however. In that role, he's faced pirates and gangs in half a dozen systems, letting him get the excitement he wanted. He loves his mother, father, and three brothers (1 taking over the farm, 1 a businessman, and 1 having just joined the Republic Navy himself) dearly, and would do anything to protect them -- and quite a lot to protect the people of the Republic despite no longer being active duty.

Kieran recently encountered the First Order for the first time while demonstrating the T-85 to a local defense force. They were chasing after some Resistance starfighters, one of which was piloted by a classmate of Key's. Key leapt to their defense, helping the Resistance folks escape, but not before his friend was shot down. He promptly decided that the First Order needed stopping, and went with the Resistance fighters to their rendezvous. Although he had to return the T-85 to Incom-FreiTek, he joined up with the Resistance immediately there-after, on the recommendation of the surviving members of the flight. Key had found his calling: defending the New Republic from a threat they wouldn't even acknowledge.

As a new member of the Resistance, Key is mostly concerned with settling in, and getting out into the fight. He's shocked and horrified that he's back to flying a T-70, but if he had to fly a T-16 into a fight, he would. He's also a little astonished at how young some of his fellow pilots are, and sees himself as a bit of the Old Man of the group.

Quirks

N.A.F.O.D. -- Kieran is clinically NAFOD (No Apparent Fear of Death), although that doesn't keep him from feeling terror or breaking under torture, he's not going to turn away from a task just because it might kill a lesser man.
Civilian Contractor -- Technically, Kieran still works for Incom-FreiTek, but he's on indefinite leave from his position--very quietly so as to not let it be known that he's with the Resistance now.
Back in My Day -- Kieran is a storyteller at heart, delighting in telling tales (tall and otherwise) about famous barfights, drinking competitions, benders, beauties, shaggy nerfs, furballs, and just about anything else.
Family, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Excitement -- Kieran has a very simple code that he lives by: Protect your family, protect your freedom, and have fun.
Wedge Antilles Fanboy -- Kieran worships the stories of Wedge Antilles' exploits during the Galactic Civil War, viewing the man as the ideal for a Corellian pilot.
