Good Cop, Bad Cop

OOC Date: January 28th, 2016
Location: Wooka's - D'Qar
Participants: Hex, Nym Landala

Hex has sent word for Nym to meet him for some more information regarding their investigation, and because of the nature of their inquiry - and because it's Hex - the meeting place is at Wooka's itself, at least to start with. He's waiting for her there, this time at a table instead of the bar itself, but he's doing his part for community service by having bought a bottle of Sullustan gin for said table. There are two glasses, lest Nym arrive and feel left out, presumably!

Nym was not long in arriving. The investigation is important to her and she'll easily put aside more mechanical drills given to her by Artie if it means there is more to do on the case. The young pilot pushes into the scorched remains of Wooka's and is quick to find Hex at his table. Her eyes move from the bottle to the glasses and she can't help but give him a smirk. "I see you took our friend's advice to heart." She's not exactly teasing. "That's quite a bit of gin for two people."

"Two people? Oh, sorry, did you think some of it was for you?" Hex replies, grinning as his lekku curl in amusement. But some of it apparently is, as he pours some into the second glass for her and slides it her way. "I talked to Poe about Lomis," he replies. "You can stop me now if you already have as well, otherwise I'll tell you what he told me."

"Then I guess there's a glass for each your lekku?" Nym retorts with a giggle as she slips into a chair opposite the Twi'lek. The glass is put in her hands and she pushes some of her unruly curled hair behind her ear as she listens. A head tilts as she nods eagerly to hear more. "No, I haven't been able to speak with him yet. I've bend doing a lot of mission prep for a mission. What did he say?"

"That's what I use them for. Alcohol storage," Hex confirms. "Shhh, it's a species secret, we normally don't let word of this leave Ryloth. But you're special. So, we were right, Poe does know him," he begins, one of said alcohol storage appendages draping itself around his shoulders. "Lomis does after school programs with the local kids. Hiking, camping, art, and relevant to our interests, holophotography. Here's the interesting part," he muses, refilling his glass. "Lomis' family has been in town for a long time; his mother was on the planetary council when we first set up ties here. According to Poe, she was one of the few to oppose our presence."

With a grin, Nym takes a drink of gin. She's not much of a drinker and so she coughs a few times as she does so. It's not even aggressively strong, she's just not used to straight alcohol. Blushing, she keeps a straight face, almost daring Hex to make a comment. Finally, she swallows and she takes a few moments so that her voice is steady when she replies. "Huh. So, is it possible the students were there on purpose?" The girl is eager to find people other than those of the base that could be responsible for this fire.

Hex doesn't comment, not directly, but his grin broadens and he tops off her glass, just a little. "I thought so too, at first, but I didn't get that impression from Poe," he goes on. "He says that we reached out to the whole family about a year ago, that we stay in regular touch to make sure they still feel alright, and Poe hasn't heard of any recent issues. I think it's something to keep in mind though, like -- when we go, don't be an ass." He crooks a smile, "Not that you would. More of a mental note to me."

"Got it. Make sure you don't act like an ass," Nym replies, as if writing a list of things to do and not to do. Then, the grin starts to fade into a more serious expression. "I see. So, he's simply wary of us. I guess I can't blame him. Should the First Order ever figure out we're here, this town will certainly be in the line of fire." It's something that crosses her mind every once in awhile when she leaves the cocoon of the base. "So, he may be reluctant to talk to us and will be more likely to think we're the ones who actually did try to burn this place down."

Hex toys with his glass, watching the ice move back and forth, the tips of his lekku curling back forth thoughtfully. "He lives on the north side of town, but runs the school programs out of an annex behind the school, and I think that's probably the better place to find him. Poe says he seems like a good man, lets visiting base kids take part in his programs, thinks Lomis will cooperate. I don't like coming at this so direct - here we are, look at us, we're from the base - because I don't want to ruffle the feathers of the local authorities. But I think pretending anything otherwise would instantly undermine our credibility. I think it's got to be presented as us looking into an internal affair... but not incriminating ourselves before we have to. Bit of a fine line to walk, I suppose."

As Nym takes in all the information, she also looks down at her glass. It's a tough call. They would gain his confidence all the more easily if he didn't know they were Resistance. However, lying to him only hinders their main goal: regain the trust of they town. "Poe did say we should do this discreetly," she hedges. After a few minutes she sighs. "I think it best to be as honest as we can be without giving away what we're actually doing," she agrees. "I don't like lying about something like this." She'll tell white lies or bluff about skipping lessons...but this is different. "We could try good cop, bad cop."

"We'll see how it goes," Hex suggests, "If he's open, cooperative, and hands us a holorecorder with some pictures on it or a couple of names, then we might be able to move on from there without any extra layers. But we'll do what we gotta do." He grins again, pouring again, and then raises his brows, obviously teasing. "Are you saying I'm bad?"

This time, Nym takes a much smaller drink of her gin this time. She doesn't cough. It's probably through a bit of strength of will. "Okay, that makes sense. We'll just play it by ear." It seems she agrees. At his quip, she gives him a grin, though she blushes as she does so, "What makes you think you're the bad cop? Maybe I am!"

Hex's grin broadens. "Because I'm a terrible being, living my life as a tragic warning to others. But -maybe you are indeed the bad cop," he agrees, and nods at her, accompanied by a gesture of lekku that seems like a 'go on' type invitation. "You've had at least half a glass of gin, you got this. Intimidate me."

"Oh, no you're not," Nym replies immediately, even if she knows that Hex is teasing her. Though she doesn't know Hex really that well, she feels the need to assure him that she doesn't think he's actually a bad person. She has, after all, had half a glass of gin. At his go on gesture, she shakes her head, looking down bashfully at her glass. "Oh, no, I don't know. I'm not really sure. I mean, I don't usually try and intimidate people."

"Oh, no no... I definitely am," Hex grins, leaning forward and resting his forearms on the table surface. "Terrible person. Case in point - look at me right now, all up in your mix what with the coaxing, and the wheedling, and the intolerable pressure revealing my character to be one of low quality and probable moral turpitude! But I might stop." He waggles his lekku at her. "If you intimidate me."

Nym can tell that he's teasing and joking. Or, at least, she's pretty sure that he is. Watching Hex, she grins and takes another small drink of her gin. "You're not doing much wheedling!" she observes. Looking down at her glass and then back up at Hex, she thinks for a moment. Internally, she steadies herself and decides, well, why not. They're working together and if she's going to prove to him that she can be a bad cop, she will! Flicking her eyes upward, she jerks her arm forward to empty the last of her gin right at Hex's face. Luckily, she has been drinking it, so it's not a full glass. Then, she looks at him straight in the eye. She //tries// to be intimidating, her voice steady. But, instead, it comes out a bit more high pitched. "I am intimidat--....oh God, I'm so sorry, I just tossed gin at you." Even in jest, she feels bad about this. She can't help it. "Here, I'll get you a napkin or something...." Yes, she really is quite the bad cop.

Whatever Hex expected... a half glass of gin to the face might not have been it. He makes an incredibly dignified noise of surprise that sounds like he just accidentally choked on a small rodent, and there is a satisfyingly startled flail of lekku involved. But then, she's talking, and she's offering him a napkin... and he dissolves into laughter, a pleasant sound that's all mirth this time without the usual wry edge. He lifts the hem of his shirt and uses it to mop off, still laughing until he can catch his breath enough to grin at her, "It was good! It was a good attempt! I'm afraid you're just pathologically kind, that's all."

Nym was trying her best with her attempts at being intimidating. She may be gratified to realize she surprised him once she gets over her embarrassment. Eventually, she finds a napkin and brings it back for Hex to clean himself off. The pilot is blushing furiously as she does this, seeing that he's using his shirt to clean himself off in the meantime. She's unsure if the laughter is helping or not. "Sorry. I'm sorry. I should have either followed through or not done it at all. I tried!"

Hex laughs, though again - he just seems happy, rather than laughing /at/ her. At least half of that laughter is no doubt directed at himself. "You did," he confirms when she says she tried, "You did, and you are wonderful. Don't change." He winks at her, "We'll just have to make it work with two good cops." The rest of his glass is knocked back and he eyes the bottle... but he did pay for it, and there is some left, so Hex screws the cap on and stuffs it in a satchel he's carrying before standing back to his feet. He's not slurring, exactly, but his Basic is developing more of a Ryl accent, so maybe it's time enough for him to go home! "Come on, I'll walk you back," he offers, and out they head back into the city, back to base.
