Classroom Ax-Room V

OOC Date: August 27, 2018
Location: Arisnar
Participants: Jedi: Ax, Zandra naMuriel, Yuun, and Elrych Cometburn

~ Unlike last time, the classroom is actually well lit, there are tables set up as well as several boxes of various components resting on each table. Ax was sitting at his own table, a projector was displaying what was laid out upon it on a wall behind the Echani jedi.

"We've been working on using the force a lot lately. I figured we'd take a bit of a break from that and get to something more interesting than hiding yourself from another force user," he says. Reaching into his robes, he pulls out his twin, very ornate lightsabers and lays them on the table in front of him. "So, sit down and we'll get this going." ~

Zan comes in, takes a look around and then finds a seat, as instructed. "Hey, Ax," she greets easily. She might be warming up to this place, or at least some of the people. She settles in, and takes a look at the components on the table, before she grins. "I hope it's okay if this stuff gets broken," she says wryly. "I mean, I'm not sure I'll be any good at this at all." Crafting - not high on Zan's list of fun things to do.

Coming to class today, though it's something that Yuun has been really enjoying the classes that they've been doing. As he walks in, he sees the projector and Ax sitting at the head of the class. He moves and sits down at one of the desks and as he listens he smiles and nods his head. "Hello Ax, and Zan." he waves to both.

Elrych Cometburn comes in at a bit of a run as if he had possibly just gotten here. He looks a bit distracted but otherwise ready for what ever the class is this week. "Hey there everyone, Ax, Yuun, Zan." He smiles to them and moves to take a seat near his fellow Padawans. "I've worked with some stuff before. I'm not great but I can try to figure it out, yeah?" He looks to Zan, "Besides that's why Ax is here... to help us learn." A nod to the man in question. You've received a +nom from Zandra naMuriel. +nom/pending to review.

~ "You're all familiar with the lightsaber, you've seen them. You might have even trained with one a little bit, if not a saber, than a one of the stunsabers," Ax says. "In the hands of a well-trained jedi, a lightsaber is almost unstoppable. It can be used to cut through blast doors or enemies alike. With the force guiding them, a Jedi can predict and deflect incoming blaster bolts, and reflect them back at the person who fired them. Furthermore, they're a symbol of the Jedi, and have been since time forgotten."

The Echani stands up, picking up one of his sabers, igniting the emerald blade and moving it about in a simple flourish. "It can strike fear into your enemies, boost the morale of your allies, or at worst case, get you killed. It's a weapon that once you master it, you'll want to use nothing else, even when you should pick up a blaster instead. I am guilty of this myself. It will instantly draw notice and word will eventually get back, possibly with your image or identity, to the First Order." ~

Zan smiles to Yuun and Elrych as they arrive, waving a hand in their directions. She turns her attention back to Ax quickly enough, listening to the start of things seriously. "It really is an impressive thing - it's something too that you don't forget seeing, so for sure word will get back and the more we use them where folks can see them, the more likely it is that we'll end up on that most wanted list." Along side Rey, of course, but likely without Rey's expectation of survival.

Yuun waves to Elrych as he comes in, "Hey El." he says to the other trainee. Watching him take a seat Yuun looks forward as Ax begins speaking to them, and his attention is caught. Taking in what is being said and watching as the emerald green blade ignites from the handle, and listening to the sound of the blade. Yuun nods his head, "I agree, it is very noticeable and having seen up front what those who wield them are capable of is awe inspiring. Though from what I've read and learned is that this weapon shouldn't be taken lightly." he says a little seriously. He looks around at the comment when said it would get you reported, "Yeah that too, but one must defend themselves, but also we do have to be cautious at times."

Elrych Cometburn nods slowly as he digs through his box, looking at things. "Yeah I don't know. I never take mine out of my robes. My Stunsaber that is. I'm more apt to use my blaster at the moment anyways." He picks out a plastic bag and attempts to open it but is having a hard time. After a few moments of stuggle, it opens, but all the contents come flying out all over him and his desk. He sighs and shakes his head.

~ "It is a simple weapon, a blade and a handle, but don't let that simplicity fool you," Ax says. "There is a reason we forbid people from carrying one without proper training in their use. They can be as dangerous to the wielder as those around him."

Ax shuts down his saber. "Your saber should be a reflection of you, as you progress, you're likely to redesign your saber. I've built multiples over time. My first was rather crude and had an odd flicker. I progressed further in my training and I worked on it. As I learned to fight with it more, I altered it, and then eventually, I made the two I carry today. I do not expect your first sabers to be as detailed."

Ax looks to each of his three students in turn. "A blaster is honestly better in most applications, but once you've mastered your blade, you'll be drawn to use it more than you probably should." ~

Zan has not at this point even touched a lightsaber. A stunsaber yes, that she has. "I'm not all that good with a blaster, but I am working on that too," she says. "you know, by the time I get /really/ good at any of this, I'm going to be too old for it to matter." She grins though, as it's an attempt to make a joke. "It - I guess that means if you know things, you can tell something about the force user? Does the colour mean something?"

Not speaking as Ax does, Yuun glances around for a moment as he looks to the others to gauge their reactions and than he looks back to Ax. He is quiet for the time being as he listens, not really having anything to say at the moment, granted he is curious about the lightsaber color as well.

Elrych Cometburn is picking up the pieces that he's scattered all over the place as Ax speaks. He's listening, he really is, but these type of things happen and he wasn't about to leave these important parts all over the place. "Yeah does the color mean anything?" He wonders aloud with the others. "I mean when it comes to choosing the crystal it's like a sort of personal kind of thing."

~ Ax picks through some of the components in the box on his table. "The basic lightsaber blade is generated by an energy cell," Ax says, holding one up. The boxes on the tables have the same components as Ax's, though there are no crystals. "That is focused by multiple crystals or a singular crystal if you find one of good enough quality," Ax says reaching into a pocket and pulling one out, a green one."

Ax looks towards Elrych, "No, it is a matter of preference. Generally, it's blue or green. Red crystals aren't normally found, or at least I've never seen one that grew naturally. I believe it's some unnatural alteration of the crystal by dark side wielders," Ax says.

As he's speaking, he's not even looking at his hands as he digs around in the box and pulls out a few other components. Soon, he has what looks like a two-piece handle assembled around the energy cell, and the crystal is suspended in front of it. "Alignment of the crystal is imperative," Ax says. ~

As Ax demonstrates, Zan watches intently. She does start looking into her box, accidentally tipping it over in the process which gets a very sheepish look on her face. She pauses then, holding a couple pieces in her hands, and listening to the information about the crystals and alignment. "What are you aligning it to?" she asks, curiously. Her gaze goes to the energy cell, thoughtfully. "And I imagine that we need to replace the energy cell, so there are opportunities to improve or mess up a lightsaber, or at least its alignment."

Looking at the box as the others are looking at theirs, he listens as he goes through his box and placing the items neatly in a row, taking time to look at each piece carefully. Quirking a brow and looking up tot see Ax as he speaks, "Will our training in lightsaber combat be increasing?" he asks.

Elrych Cometburn nods slowly as he fiddles with a cylinder. He's poking at it with a metal prod. "Well I guess if I had to choose I'd go blue. Though, orange is more my style but if they don't come in that then well... yeah blue." A spring comes flying out at him and hits him in the face from the cylinder causing the padawan to sigh once more along with a rolling his eyes behind sunglasses.

~ "I don't know that they don't come in that," Ax says. "I've just never seen one. Ilum is probably where we'll go to gather crystals, and what you'll find there are blue and green, a few different shades of each, but those are the dominant colors. My first saber was blue, actually. I don't know why I chose green for these, likely simply because my apprentice at the time wants a blue saber and I felt like being different."

As he speaks, he sets what he was working on down, and goes back to digging into the box. "You are more than welcome to train with lightsabers as much as you want, Yuun. I highly recommend practicing and training together." Ax connects a few wires, and without effort begins assembling all the pieces on his table.

There's a distinct snap hiss, and Ax has a freshly built lightsaber in the Echani's hand. "The components are simple to find, readily available, aside from the crystal. You can use blaster energy cells, but they aren't the best. The energy cells I have I designed myself to maximize the saber's blade. I prefer a tighter beam that's finer than the typical. Fits better with my personal fighting style." ~

Zan wrinkles her nose. "Designed the energy cell?" she asks. "You are seriously multitalented." She nods though to the information about the crystals. "Ilum? I don't think I've ever been there. And here I thought the Providence went everywhere, guess that's another childhood impression shot to bits." She doesn't seem particularly worried or upset by that, not by this point. "I wonder if the crystals change as we do - I mean, as our skill increases and we ourselves change. That would be really interesting, and maybe why you might change the colour?" Yeah, someone's perhaps been reading too much and extrapolating way too much.

Yuun is taking his time and he analyzes each piece and once they are out he moves things around and quirks his head a little bit as he looks at everything. "I think I like to do that if you wouldn't mind helping me. The energy cell that is." he says as he looks up at Ax. He than looks to the others, trying to see what they are doing, he lets out a sigh at the mention of Illum, "There is still so many places for us to go and explore, still gotta be careful." he states.

Elrych Cometburn is still busy fiddling with his own cylinder. It's possible he's missed an important step or something. He looks up and over at the others. "Illum... or yeah. Weren't we going to take a trip out there at some point?"

~ "Well, designed may not be the right term," Ax admits. "I modified some energy cells so that they're better suited for my sabers." He shuts down the saber and begins dismantling it.

As he removes the crystal he puts that back into his pocket before putting the rest of the components back into the box. "The boxes in front of you contain everything you might need to build a lightsaber, except for the crystal itself. In days of old, finding the crystal was a right of passage for Jedi, these days, we use mining lasers to cut ones like the one I just used."

Ax looks to Yuun. "You'll find a proper energy cell in your box. Anything beyond that, you'll need to figure out on your own," he adds with a wink.

Ax looks between Elrych and Zan. "I'll fly us out there when you three are ready," Ax says. "You might want to gear up for extreme cold though. You might have been to frozen planets before, but I know that it was a shock to me my first time there. I'd prepared for ice and snow, but not to the extent that Ilum has." ~

Zan shivers, just thinking about that. "Oh. That cold, huh?" she asks. "Right, so layer up the clothing and the envirosuits, until i can't walk. got it." She is taking the warning seriously, just she keeps trying to keep things light. "Do we keep these boxes?" she asks. "And use them to practice with, hopefully not breaking things, as we learn how to put them all together?"

Smiling, Yuun begins to put the pieces back into his box careful with each part as he puts them away. He stretches out once he is done, "Alright, that would be great Ax, thank you." he says as he looks to the Echani Jedi. He looks to the others, "I feel I'm not ready yet, so I will take my time and our Stunsabers are still handy." he states.

Elrych Cometburn attempts a clean up as well, though he's still searcching around incase he is missing something he spilled. He hopes he isn't missing anything anyways. "Ah... yeah. Sounds great Axe, Bannanas. This is really great. We really do appreciate you shelling out for this hardware on all this stuff. Cargo markets are rough these days."

~ "Yes," Ax says. "Consider it a gift from me, your very own lightsaber construction kits. You'll find texts in the library on the exact details of how to wire the energy cell and switch. I'll show you how to align the crystals to get a clean blade that is not distorting or flickering," Ax says.

"Take these objects. When one or all of you present me with a constructed hilt, sans crystal, and show me with your stunsabers the basics of lightsaber combat forms, then I will fly you to Ilum to find your crystal. If you have questions or are having problems, I will help you understand what you are doing wrong. But know this, I will not build your blade, or help you build it other than by giving you the knowledge of its construction. A lightsaber needs to be personal, it needs to be unique. It needs to be your creation, from the design of the hilt, the choice of switch, what materials you make it out of, et cetera. The box there is to help you practice construction, if you wish to make one with what is there, that is fine, though I encourage you to start looking for different materials and such. A lightsaber is an extension of the Jedi, and therefore needs to be a representation of that Jedi." He motions towards his own twin curved-hilt sabers sitting on the table. "You can be fancy," he says. Then he looks to the box and then back to the class, "Or it can be basic, much like the one I assembled a few minutes ago. I've used the casing from a plasteel glow-rod for a hilt and I've used a gas cylinder from a blaster carbine. My first lightsaber used a focusing lense from a blaster pistol to stabilize the beam because I didn't mount my crystal perfectly. Again, you have the tools in front of you. You have the library and myself to draw upon for information. Utilize these things and when you are ready, we'll go find your crystal." ~

Zan sort of gives Elrych a look at his comment, staying quiet possibly because Ax starts to talk again, and she turns to listen. At the end, she smiles. "Thanks, Ax. That's a lot for me to think about, well, for all of us I guess. I know I'm not ready yet. Not by a long shot. But I'll get there." A nod of her head. "If I need to build this, then I will." Determination flickers for a moment on her face, and she settles quietly, looking to see the reaction of the others.

Yuun smiles and bows his head to Ax, "We've been training together quite a bit, and honestly I think we've come a long way but still go a ways to go." Yuun takes his box in his hands and just holds them. Taking in what Ax is speaking to them about this has to be their journey to complete on their own, "We will do our best."

Elrych Cometburn nods, giving a smile to those there, packing up his box. "Thanks Axe, really. Im excited to learn how to put this thing together." He then looks to Zan and nods, "We've been working on it but no. I'm no where near that level yet either. Patients... we all need that when it comes to learning."

~ "Alright, well that's all I have for the night," Ax says. "Again, if you run into problems or have questions, please ask. If you hand in something that falls apart or is going to short circuit the first time you try to turn it on, I'm going to be quite ashamed of you," he adds with a grin. "Alright, get out of here. I'm going to fly to my winery on Naboo and spend some time with my newborns. I'll probably fly them out here next time I teach a class, along with my wife or her parents to keep an eye on them while I teach." ~
