Martial Training by a newly Knighted Jedi

OOC Date: September 23, 2021
Location: Chandrila, Lighthouse Sparring Area
Participants: Yuun, Jax Greystorm, Sesti Greystorm, Zandra naMuriel, Rey, Merek

It's early in the evening, the winds blowing cool air through the area. The sparring area is clean and large, standing in the center of the room, is Yuun, his head bowed, his dreads hang along his head. His meditation has continued since his time on Devaron. The young Initiate had posted up a training schedule for the Jedi so that they could learn martial arts, along with a few other things he was wanting to teach once he worked up the courage to do. After a long moment he raises his head and he waits to see who would show up.

So it's a lesson for those wishing to learn martial arts, and that's something Zandra has so far managed to avoid. She comes into the sparring area and glances around. It's not her first time here, so she moves up to offer a bow towards Yuun, politely. That formality doesn't last too long as Zan then says, "Hi Yuun. I don't know anything about fighting, if it doesn't involve a lightsaber. I thought I should maybe - learn a bit." She sounds like she's not /quite/ sure on that front. "So that I have options, you know?"

Jax was doing Jax things. So that probaly meant managing the logistics of the Saber Squadron. So he was walking along with His data pad out as Exine trailed behind him booping and beeping. The little droid carrying on about this or that about the squadron's maintenance schedule The different ship schematics. Jax looks up frown as he realize they're disrupting the peace. "Yuun, Zan. How are you. I'm sorry."

From the pathway leading in from the forest to the east, Rey appears rounding the bend. She's got one hand on her satchel and the other hangs at her side. She spies those gathering at the training grounds on the lighthouse property and it makes her smile as she draws closer with each step. When she gets close enough she raises a hand to wave then speaks up. "I'm not late, am I?" She asks of the others, with her eyes darting from one of them to the other before finally landing on Yuun. "You're showing everyone a thing or two about your martial skills and training, yeah?" She asks of him. "I think you're the only one of us who had that manner of training prior to ... all of this." She glances to the grounds around them before back again.

Yuun smiles as he sees Zandra come to the training area, "Hello Zan." he smiles to her. Watching her as she comes near him, he gives a bow himself, she is a Knight after all, and his friend. "That is fine actually. By not having the skill, makes it easier to teach you." he says to her, "So no worries, I hope to make this fun but also you learn something from this training." he tells her.

When Jax makes his way over, he waves, "Hey Jax, glad you could make it." he says to him. He also bows to his friend, "I'm doing alright.." he looks a little puzzled, "What're you sorry for?" he asks as he looks to him.

Then Rey makes her way here, he smiles to her and bows to her as well, "You're right on time Rey." When she states that he had this training prior to everything now, he nods his head. "Please sit down and relax, I want to tell you what will be happening with the training and why I suggested to Rey I would do this. Also if you have any questions, please ask them." he gestures to the ground and he promptly sits down.

Zan nods to Jax and Rey as she spies them, a smile brightening her features. "Thanks, Yuun," she says, and she settles into a seated position. She looks over at Exine, and arches a brow. "You be careful what you say about my fighter flight," she tells him. Seems someone might understand binary more than the droid expected. Rey's comment gets a nod. "I am sure that's true," she says, "And I am also glad to learn something new."

There's a shriek from Exine and he goes speeding away to hide. He doesn't do that very often but it seems he's scared of Zandra. Jax looks at the escaping droid and then to Yuun. "That." He nods to Rey. He tucks the datapad away. Then starts to remove his hooded robe folding the garment and placing it on the ground where its not in the way.

Rey smiles brightly and moves toward one of the stone benches to set her satchel down along with her lightsaber clipped to the side of it. She looks to the fleeing droid and smirks for a moment before she looks then to Yuun. "I'm curious where you got your training, Yuun." She says then to him as she also settles down on to the soft grass. "You may have told me before, on Arisnar, but I can't quite recall." She adds while folding her legs underneath herself and placing her hands over her knees.

"You're welcome Zan." he says to her. Yuun looks to Jax then to Exnine and chuckles, "It's all good man." he says. He then looks over to Rey and he is happy she remembered a little of what they talked about way back when.

"Well, let me just explain myself a bit and let you all in more on me." he says to them all. "As you listen, relax, allow yourself to focus. Breath in through your nose and out your mouth." he says. "Still ask questions but after you ask continue your breathing." he says.

Yuun is quiet for a long moment, "I grew up on Coruscant, in the lower cities, 1313 area, one of the worse parts but still people did what they could to survive." he starts. "It was only my parents and me, both of my parents families were very estranged and only worried about themselves so I never met them. Both my parents were mechanics and my father was a pilot. They had their own shop where they did repairs on ships, speeders and primarily swoops due to the swoop gangs that ran rampant around those areas." he says. "My parents had a good relationship among other shop owners and even with two of the swoop gangs that were actually doing as much good as they could to help people. It was my uncle Boonta, he was a Mirialin who trained me and my parents in Teras Kasi. The Dragon Phoenix Swoop gang couldn't be every where at once, and so this was a good way to help protect ourselves. My parents had blasters and were good with them, me I didn't like them so I trained more in the arts. My parents learned a little but Uncle Boonta trained me as a child all the way up to when I left.

Yuun stops there for a moment, he frowns a little but lets out a breath and waits just in case there was questions.

Zandra listens, letting herself follow the meditation instructions. She doesn't need them any more, but she takes the encouragement to relax, letting herself find a nearly meditative state. "I can't imagine growing up on a planet, just to start with, never mind one like Coruscant," she murmurs. "It's fascinating how different we all are, how different our backgrounds are."

Jax breathes in through his nose and out through his mouth and seems to take a fighting stance. Though it's not the one that Yuun was using. It was something a bit more Zabrak martial style based. Though the jedi never spoke of it. It made sense where much of his fight styles came from and he slowly moves through a kata.

Rey keeps her eyes on Yuun up to the point where he starts to give a bit of info about his life's story. She then looks away and lets her eyelids slip in to a meditative posture. The wind across the yard sends her loose strands of hair dancing across her face before she shows a twitch of a smile upon her lips. "That is a good Uncle." She says in response to Yuun's words. At Zandra's she opens her eyes again. "I can't even imagine if I'd grown up on Coruscant. Now that I've experienced part of it... it's... overwhelming. Especially compared to where I came from." She states the last part with a light smirk before she quiets again.

Yuun smiles a little and he watches as the three doing the breathing exercise as he spoke. A slow nod is given, "I don't think I really ever told you all much about me, and I felt it was long over due." he says to them. "Now what I will be teaching you is what I learned of Teras Kasi it's also called Steel Hands." he states. "It's an unarmed martial arts style that was really develop to fight against Jedi." he starts off. "Though from what I've learned since being a Jedi, that even some Jedi during the Old Republic learned it as well. Though how they learned it, I don't know as the people who created it and used wouldn't teach it to a Jedi so there lies the mystery. Or they found someone who can teach it. My uncle was old but when he trained he moved like he was back in his younger days, and he hit hard." he states. "As I teach you, I will be trying to find more of the original text and such so I can be a better teacher to you all." he pauses for a moment, as Yuun has been speaking, they would notice that his breathing has been slow and deliberate, even while he waits to hear what the others have to say or to see if they are keeping with the breathing, they would see him doing the same.

"Now why am I doing this?" he asks, "The reason for this is due to we may be on missions where we have to blend in, and or we may be captured and will not have access to our lightsbers or Force help us access to the Force itself." he states. "From what I've been told, the creators of this art weren't Force Users at all. But they were able to use this art just as proficiently as a Jedi using a lightsaber. For a Jedi to master a lightsaber, they would have to work hard and well the Followers of Palawa trained even harder and from what I saw of my uncle, there were times I though he had the force. Stories I've heard matched that. By being able to turn your will inward. There are many feats they could do. But that is where my knowledge of history stops." he frowns. "I know we focus so much on our lightsaber skills that I felt that it we needed to augment the training. Now if someone knows other martial arts and would like to share and teach I would be open to that as well. Again my training isn't fully complete but I've incorporated it into my lightsaber techniques. I do plan on teaching lightsaber training as well, seeing as I do focus on combat. Which reminds me I need to talk to you Rey about bringing one particular Holocron here if that is possible, if not it's ok." he says.

Zandra listens to what Yuun says, noting that he's also doing the same breathing exercises. She tilts her head a bit as she listens quietly. "It's good to learn more about each other," she says simply. "And I am willing to try to learn, but I note, I may be the worst martial artist ever." A slight grin, though then Zan shrugs. "But I said that about my lightsaber too once. So, maybe not. With enough practice." There is more confidence to the Knight, and it shows.

Jax listens to Yuun as he explains the history of his martial arts and well himself. He stops from doing what he was doing, going through a kata and listens. He breathes and inhales. "Knowing the ways and the mind of an advisory is never a bad thing. While being a jedi means relying on a saber. Other weapons are viable tools."

Rey keeps her breathing up and evened out, as breathing exercises themselves were something she'd done a lot of reading about with and without regard to Jedi training, just physical exertion in general. She levels her chin and listens to this talk about Teras Kasi. "You're peaking my interest in this art, Yuun." Rey says with a quick grin, followed by a little nod. "And yes, we can bring a Holocron here, but I am leery of taking many from the Temple." She assumes those are the ones he's referring to. "But there are enough of us here these days that we can likely protect it well enough.... this place feels more secure than it used to, what with the additions we've added to the property and all..."

Sesti was looking for her husband. She was early, and, she was quiet. It wasn't that she was trying excessively hard to be sneaky, but when one is wandering around the Jedi's place, you never know when you'll come upon a jedi meditating (indeed, she never knows when she's going to come upon a jedi meditating in her own home), and so she's adopted a habit of moving with care in places where jedi might be about. She comes about the side of the hill, drawn to Yuun's voice. As she comes closer, his words become clearer and she listens with interest. Noting that her husband is among the people gathered around Yuun, even before he speaks, she chooses to sit quietly on a bench and wait without drawing attention to herself. Noticing the breath control, she lays her hands lightly palm up on her thighs to accept the energy of the galaxy as she slows her breathing to bring in rhythm with the group.

Yuun watches Jax as he goes through his kata, he smiles to his friend and he looks to Zan, a laugh escapes Yuun as she speaks. "You will be fine Zan, believe me when I started, it was horrible but then I just kept on it, and like you just said. You said that about your lightsaber and now look at you." he smiles. "As for learning about one another, I'm happy to have shared with you all honestly." he smiles and it's genuine. That smile that seemed to have left him a while back, but it's been back ever since he's come back.

"Jax you are correct, having many tools will help us but something I've learned, we all have our own strengths and expertise." he says. With that, Yuun rolls backwards into a handstand, then over to a standing position. "I'm happy to hear that Rey." he smiles to her. "I will do my best to teach you all." he glances up and he sees Sesti, "Hello Sesti." he says to her and gestures for her to join them. "You can join us for training, a family who trains together stays together." he grins. "Now, breath in together, in through your nose and exhale out through your mouth." he says. Without the use of the force try to sync your breathing with one another." he says in a soothing voice, one not heard from him before.

Without the use of ... that's a challenge. It immediately draws Zan from her breathing to stare at Yuun. And then she shakes her head, going back to it. She raises a hand to wave to Sesti only once Yuun mentions her name, but stays quiet as this is Yuun's class. She gets to her feet though, standing up and removing her robes and setting them down on the bench by Rey's stuff, her lightsaber going there as well. Out of the way for the lesson. Then she's back to stand there, quietly, concentrating on breathing.

Jax turns his head and gives Sesti a wink and a wave to join them. Then he turns his head back to Yuun. He takes a moment closing his eyes listening to those around him. He takes a moment and begins to try to match up his breathing to the ones around him with a measure of success.

Rey does notice Sesti as she approaches and settles in near to them. Its been awhile since she'd seen her and it causes Rey to smile and wave toward the woman for a moment before she looks back to Yuun and does as he says. She meditates upon the Force and the presence of the others within it near to her here.

After a moment though, Rey speaks up, with her eyes still closed. "Yuun. Might I say something to Jax and Zan here before we begin the arduous process of kicking and punching one another this evening?"

She asks and waits for his affirmative (which he gave in a page!)

Rey takes a breath in then and lets it back out softly. "Jax, Zan. You two have been with us for quite some time, and though we do train in our own forms of Martial Arts, this one is unique in its use for us now. It comes from clearly a storied history rooted in the origins of where Yuun himself comes from, his uncle and so forth and so on. But Yuun teaches us his perspective on it, and that's something I can tell he'll be doing for a long time to come."

Rey has a quick ghost of a smile appear on her lips before she shakes her head lightly. "So, I just wanted to say that as three students to Yuun here tonight, we should reflect upon it being something special." She adds before opening her eyes and looking to Zan and Jax, then toward Yuun.

"Because he's going to be teaching this Art to many Jedi in the years to come. I can see that when I feel the connection to the future." She smiles toward Yuun then.

"So yes, lets get this training going, shall we, Yuun? But remember this moment, for me please, Yuun. Because its the first time you've taught this Art to anyone as a Jedi Knight."

After saying that, Rey smiles more openly to the Coruscant native before them in this serene moment in the lighthouse yard.

Zan is standing, and she looks to Rey as she speaks. She doesn't look very surprised, all things considered. Instead she looks rather pleased and proud. "Congratulations, Knight Yuun," she says softly. There's a warmth in her tone, to go along with that pride. "Well done, my friend." She nods, regarding Yuun, waiting for what Rey said to sink in.

Sesti should have known that she wouldn't go unseen or unremarked, but she tried. She dips her head slightly to the others, and then, at Jax's invitation, rises to go over and take a place next to Jax. It's taking her a moment to find her calm again and connect as she tries to return the different greetings without adding any further distraction. She gives a slight smile at Rey's little speech, but she doesn't comprehend the meaning of it.

Jax steps forward and reaching for his saber in a fluid movement. He hits the button on his saber as he lifts it high in the air. "I believe there is a little matter of crossing blade and owing us a oath to cement the deal, a jedi knight?" He says with a smile on his face.

Zan laughs, and grabs her saber, raising it to meet Jax's.

Yuun smiles as he sees everyone breathing in sync though he notices that Sesti is trying but she will get it, "Calm Sesti." he says to her. With her next to Jax, he knows she will do well. He looks to Zan as she stopped and he watches as she goes back to her breathing. He too begins to breath with them, his eyes closes for a long moment, then he opens them.

As he is about to speak again he looks to Rey as she asks to interrupt and he bows his head, but before he can say something she starts to talk to them. Yuun starts to look around for a moment, to see if there was any other late arrivals coming but there weren't and he looks over towards her and as she states that what he is going to teach is from where his origins, but then again he understands what she meant, "Ah." he says about that, but he will clear that up just to be safe. Though as she continues to speak, and yes he has three students, and well four as Sesti is here but he will be teaching as a Knight. 'Oh that's cool.' he thinks to himself as he looks to Rey not taking in what she just said until she smiles at him and speaks her last sentence. His eyes blink a few times, and he shakes his head, like nah she didn't say what she just did.

When Zan stands up and congratulates him, he steps back as he looses his breath, he shakes his head, "Me...." it's a low whisper. Then as Jax stands up and lights up his lightsaber and then Zan igniting her lightsaber. He looks to them all, "Really me..." he says in utter amazement and surprise.

His chest tightens and he can feel tears at the edge of his eyes but he controls himself and takes a deep breath and he kneels on one knee and bows his head.

“There is no emotion, there is peace.”

“There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.”

“There is no passion, there is serenity."

"There is no chaos, there is harmony."

"There is no death, there is the Force."

He waits to be told to rise.

Merek is walking along from the hangar, having been looking into the new ship which he will be using with Saber Squadron. The man wears a dark attire with his scarf along his features as well as a visor that he wears. The man looks to the Jedi and will incline a little, looking to them. It'd been a while since he had seen any of them, some he's familiar with, and will watch at the moment.

Rey moves to stand up when the lightsabers come on. She doesn't go to retrieve her own as the two existing Jedi Knights are taking care of that, and as the Paragon, Rey considers it not her position to even go that far. She is smiling though as Yuun recites the Jedi code, and when he finishes she simply lowers her chin in a singular nod to him.

"It has been a great honor to train and help you through this process, Yuun. You've earned this and will pass it on to others with grace and humility. That much I'm quite certain."

She glances to Sesti and then back to the others. Her chin rises up again then.

"I didn't mean to side line your class though, Knight Yuun." She says softly to him. "So, when you're ready. Lets get back to the preparing to kick and punch." Which of course she chases those words with a grin.

Zan watches and listens, standing tall, her saber raised high. And once they're done, she turns to salute both the Paragon and the new Knight before she disengages her saber. "Time for some martial arts training," she agrees.

When Zan congratulates him and Jax lights his saber, it dawns on Sesti the significance of Rey's last words. She stands up and gives him a fist to chest salute of the zabrak kind, and then smiles broadly and claps as the zabers come back down. "Congratulations, Yuun," she adds with a solemn pride and dignity to the occasion, although she can't help the quirk of a grin when Rey suggests they get to the punching and kicking... something she /is/ good at.

Merek will keep on watching, while he takes the time look and find a general place from which to watch. He then takes a flask of milkshake from the hip to take a drink from that, while he watches.

Yuun rises as he is indicated by Rey. He stands up straight and holds his head up high, "Thank you, I will not let any of you down." he bows his head. He smiles as he looks to everyone, and when he sees Sesti salute him, he holds his fist to his chest mimicking her and he bows his head to her. "Wow, this is...." he looks like he's still in shock. Yuun takes a few breaths and he lets it go and laughs, "Kicking and punching and making sure Sesti and Jax don’t spar with one another. Ok. We will be doing kicking and punching but the right way." Yuun says as he rolls his shoulders. "We will start with the basic strikes, and stances before going full fighting. As we continue, we will get more advanced. This is how my journey started, so will yours. Please make sure you take an hour a day to fit this into your daily training or whatever you do." he states. "I will know if you are or not doing it." he grins. "Move an arm length apart from each other." he says as he moves in front of the class as he looks to his class as he begins moving them through the basic strikes.

The Camera begins to pan out and up as Yuun demonstrates the first punch then having the class do it. The camera does find the flask, milkshake drinking Merek as it zooms out slowly on the Lighthouse.
