Plants and Diplomacy

OOC Date: April 16 2020
Location: Chandrila
Participants: David Ironside, Septima Carnine, Zul Gradnk

It's getting later in the afternoon in Hanna City and there's been a steady stream of people that are coming and going all over Chandrila the last week and change. In the Wild Game Reserve today there are plenty of people, some working on fences and others are talking to people that are new to the place.

Septima on the other hand is tucked into her own little spot and transplanting Orcanthus plants from a large container that they were in to new beds that had been damaged. They were beautiful flowers and the woman was being extremely delicate in the moving of them.

Zul Gradnk smiles, certainly a sight to behold in a horrible, horrible Rishi Shirt, looking about with wide eyes as she steps into the Wild reserve, skipping about, stopping as she eyes Septima, without saying a word yet.

Septima works to transplant a few more of the Oranthus starts that she'd grown for this place. There's a bit of a look up from her spot on the ground where she is dealing with dirt and trowels. She gives a smile to a few people, a wave as someone asks a question and she gives a quiet nod before answering them and setting things to the side while she picks up her datapad to make a few notes.

"Gardening, today?" David asks of the senator. He'd only just arrived in the reserve, and he's carrying one blaster pistol on his person today. For safety. He glances around, squinting with a slight frown. "Out here, by yourself?" he asks, thumbs casually hooked in his gunbelt. His eyes shift to the perimeter, seeing as this is a game reserve anything could jump out at any time.

Zul Gradnk tilts her head, wearing two Blasters herself "So, I guess you are prettying this place up for the senate?" she guesses, tilting her head, looking at Dave but not recognising him as her lekku twitch

Septima's greenish-gold gaze looks up when she hears a familiar voice and she settles the datapad in her lap, "Yes, Mister Ironside I'm gardening today." she tells him with a smile. "There are a few dozen people around." she motions around. "Is there an issue?" she asks him. Then there is a look to Zul, the face unknown but she gives her a welcoming smile, "Well, I am making sure that our most loved plants get cared for. Orcanthus and other species are native to Chandrila." she offers in explanation.

David smirks. "Oh, no, I meant like, a security detail, you know." He shakes his head. "It's a habit of mine to make sure there is one, when it comes to.. important people." he decides carefully. He glances at Zul, he's seen her around a few times, but not enough to distinguish her from other green Twi'leks. So he gives her a quick up-nod when he catches her looking, and especially when Septima starts talking to Zul.

Zul Gradnk nods, smiling as she looks about "I.... just wanted to see where this republic will have it's capital now." she grins "It will go well!" she argues, clapping her hands, looking towards Dave "Why would a gardener need security detail...." she begins, blinking.

"I do not have one at the moment." Septima tells David in a quiet tone. "More for the fact that we're less than a month post liberation and the Resistance is right above our heads. It's not a long trip if someone tries something silly." she admits. "I'll eventually get one though, don't worry on it." she states. Then there's a look to Zul and she climbs to her feet, "We are hoping that it goes smoothly." she tells her. "I'm Septima." she offers in greeting.

David just peers at Zul. "I mean, she's not a gardener by profession anymore, if at all." he explains. But only barely. He watches Septima work until she stands up straight, glancing upwards to space once. "Right, but wasn't I just detained for an afternoon because someone affiliated with the Knights of Ren came.. well within stabbing distance of a group of dignitaries?" he asks. "Please, don't rely on a fleet of cruisers overhead for your personal safety. Take it from me." he suggests. "I used to be on the detail for the Queen and later the Senator from Naboo. I've got some experience in the field."

Zul Gradnk blinks "Senator?" she guesses, waving both her lekku at her, likely scaring her "Zul!" she introduces herself, grinning, blinking at David curiously, tilting her head.

Septima gives a look to David, "I am a Horticulturist, it is what I studied in College. before I was a Senator, which honestly is still very new. If you will remember we did not have many chances at gathering and speaking about politics prior to the last few weeks." she tells him. "Excellent. I am glad that you have security experience." she nods to him. Then she looks to the Zul and there is a smile, "I am the Senator for Chandrila, but please, it's no fuss." she tells her. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Zul." she states warmly.

David nods at Zul. "Wish I felt as optimistic." he replies to Septima simply. Maybe he's just seen too much unnecessary death, who knows. "In any case, even if I'm not.. you know, officially in service of the throne anymore, I can't help but observe these things. Maybe I should apologize for being so forwardly protective." he muses.

Zul Gradnk blinks, tilting her head, waving her lekku about "And I.... don't have any security experience... I just sell everything from explosives over droids to speeders..."

Septima's gaze swings back to David, "Mister Ironside, I know that you are trying to be helpful, but, I am fine. We're taking precautions I assure you. I'm not just sitting out here like some water fowl waiting to be killed, dressed and slapped down on a dinner table." she tells him. "I'm not going to sit in a building all day and wear fancy clothes. I like to be out and helping while we get things cleaned up." she explains. She's not mad, she's just...odd. "Your concern is appreciated." she states. Then she looks back to Zul and there's a smile to her, "That sounds like an interesting job. Do you own a store or anything like that?" she asks her.

David raises a hand. He wasn't there to tell anyone they're not safe when they're fine believing they are. "Just remember this is also where they keep the wild animals, hm?" he offers lightly. With that, he crosses his arms and stares off into the distance, maybe hoping to spot one of those wild animals. It's exactly the 'frail beginnings' state of the Republic that has him on his guard at all times.

Zul Gradnk nods "Three in fact!" she explains with a grin, seeming happy as she skips in place.... "One on Nar and two on Tatooine. Brings in a nice profit, and so much old stuff I ponder directing Holos now!"

Septima turns her head and blinks a bit owlishly at David, "Oh good heavens." she breathes out. "Mister Ironside, I have lived on this planet all of my life. I am aware of this being the Wild Game Reserve. I am not an idiot." she tells him with a bit of a pointed look. She felt like one though. She bends to collect the now empty container and then straightens, looking to Zul, "Sounds like it is a tidy little profit." she smiles to her. "Holos might be fun as well." she nods to this.

David turns back and approaches Septima. "Apologies, I didn't mean to insinuate I know more about your planet than, you know, it's representative in the Senate." he starts, slightly on edge. "However, I don't believe my concerns are entirely unfounded." He shrugs, and nods at Zul. "I own a speeder store on Nar Shaddaa and a gun store on Nal Hutta." he contributes. "I'm able to comfortably loan credits to my friends to buy their own freighters, and honestly, that's all I need. Financial comfort." He shrugs. "Freedom. Freedom's a big one too."

Zul Gradnk nods, starting to say something, before her datapad buzzes "And, my shops need me." she waves her lekku "It was nice meeting you, but I need to go."

Septima gives a sigh to David, "It's quite alright." she tells him. Then she gives a squint to him, "I will take my leave then and go to safer places." she states in an even tone as she turns and starts off towards the entrance to the reserve. She gives smiles and dips of her head to those that tell her good evening, trying not to fall on her face as she heads out.

David raises an eyebrow, but nods. "Alright then." he replies, watching the senator leave without moving an inch from where he stands. After she's out of sight, David moves to the city as well, turning towards the spaceport when he gets there.
