Scanning Serenno

OOC Date: January 22, 2016
Location: Serenno
Participants: Snap Wexley (GM), Nym Landala, Jax Greystorm, Delphine Ownnagda, Fuze

Captain Wexley and put out a call to some of the pilots at the Resistance base to come to the briefing room for an assignment. There hadn't been much more details on it than that at this point.

The briefing room was a decently sized room with rows of tables and large comfortable-high-backed chairs that sat in a theater-style setup facing the front of the room where a holo-graphic glass wall was used to display mission information. At the front of the room is where Wexley was standing, he was already in hsi flight gear and was waiting for the others to come in. He'd nod to each of them as they entered.

"Alright, you guys ready to go earn some uniform ribbons?" He asked them with a small grin.

Nym, always eager to have something to do involving the piloting wing is one of the first to arrive. While not dressed in her piloting uniform just yet, she does peek her head in and then take a place in one of the high backed chairs. Her attention turns to Wexley after she glances around to see who else has arrived. The question is met with a bit of a smirk and a nod. She doesn't otherwise respond verbally. She's eager to see what this assignment might be.

Jax was in his flight suit as he comes into the room with his flight helmet tucked under his right arm. Exine, Jax's R2 unit rolls in behind him. Blue two offering a nod to the Captain before slipping into one of the front row seat since there wasn't many of them but to the side. He calls out, "Long as we don't got to die to do it Captain!"

Delphine stolls into the breifing room in no Rush already dressed in his piloting uniform. He smiles and nods as h make his way to the front taking a seat and examing the holo-graphic.

The Captain allowed the three of themt o file in and find their seats before he continued, glancing down at the podium in front of the mission screen for a moment. "I'm not going to lie, this could be a dangerous run, or it could be a blue milk run. It really could go either way." He tells them, taking a moment to inhale and exhale.

Snap looks back to the mission window and the holographic image of a bright blue and green world shoots up on the glass wall. "This is Serenno. It has a fairly storied history in the galaxy, but I'm not going to get into that right now... The matter at hand is that its people have been going through some turmoil of late and intel suggests that its directly related to the First Order and their Resurgent-class Star Destroyer the 'Finalizer' being in orbit of said world."

Snap glanced to the podium again, adjusted something and the world zoomed in on the screen and right in on a wire-frame 3d model of the Star Destroyer. "This is the First Order's mobile command ship. Its a beastly thing... pretty damn scary to look at... And thats our job." He looks out at the three of them. "We're being sent to go have a look."

Snap motioned to the screen and a 3d representation of TIE Fighter patrols zooming around the Star Destroyer could be seen. "We may or may not get spotted... but our goal is to get as close to this bad boy as we can... run our sensors hot and then turntail and run like hell to get back to base." He exhaled sharply. "It doesn't sound all that glorious, but our job is to gather intel on the Destroyer, the planet and then plan an upcoming assault to determine how best to help the people of Serenno."

"Any questions?" He looked around at each of their faces.

Nym leans forward in her chair as Snap starts to speak, eyes narrowing as she studies the projection in front of her. "Won't they know we're coming as soon as he jump out of hyperspace?" she asks. "They've got to expect us to try and get intel on their shiny Star Destroyer."

The 3-D image spins about in front of her eyes and she mentally starts to memorize it. It's not the glory that she's interested in so much as the making sure she knows what they're getting into. She assumes the glory will come later. "How long is it going to take to get an accurate read on that Destroyer? If we send in a scanner with X-Wings protecting it, we might have a good chance, but they'll definitely know it's us as soon as we're there."

Jax raises his hand, "I have heard the First Order Tie fighter has more in common with the Tie Avenger than the Tie/LN that it bears close resemblance too. So what's are our rules of engagement?"

Delpine carefully paid attention the Captian as he went over the mission details nodding his head. He leans back into his chair and studies the map as it is shown. Not saying much as questions are asked, but rather just listening to everyone and mentally preparing himself for the mission ahead.

Snap first regarded Nym and her quarries. "Well." He started with a light exhale. "They've been at Serenno for awhile now. So we're going in hoping that we're going to catch them a bit lax in their... blockade of this planet. If you can call one giant Star Destroyer a blockade, which... I think is pretty fair, all things considered." He smirked lightly then His head lightly shook from side to side then. "And it shouldn't take long to get a full scan of the ship, our astromechs will be working over time."

Snap then regarded Jax. "I saw the intel that your friends provided and its helped generate a lot of leads on this info we already have. "Their TIE Fighters have deflector screens, yeah. They're similar in speed and handling to the T-70 X-Wing as well. But I believe the hull on their fighters is still as paper thin as it always was, we just have to pop those shield bubbles around them. Shouldn't take more than a few direct shots with our lasers." He then nodded one small time. "We'll engage them so long as it takes to get the data we need, then we turn one-eighty and hit lightspeed. Of course, we're not going directly back to Ileenium... We'll need to take some random jumps to be safe."

With that said, Snap looked to the three of them. "Anything else, or are we ready?" He grinned a little. "We'll be back and eating our noodle dinners before we know it."

As Snap answers her questions, Nym thinks them over for a few moments before nodding. Her eyes dart to Jax and then to Delphine before she replies, "No more questions, ready Captain." With a smirk, she adds, "You know, Poe offered us brandy for the last mission."

Jax calls out, "I'm sure we can find something Nym. There's plenty of booze on planet. We using the same jump out points or spliting up. I got no questions. How you want to split up wingmen?"

"Alright lets get this done." Delphine says with some excitmentant as he stands up. " I can't wait to get out there this should be fun." He smiles at everyone.

The world of Serenno sits in the foreground of the starscape of space. What was once a bustling planet in the old Republic has now been transformed into a ghost town of spacelane traffic. Except for one giant, dark, triangular arrow-head of a ship. The Star Destroyer 'Finalizer' sits in front of the planet of Serenno like a fat kid in front of a refridgerator... not wanting to let another soul, get inside its prized posession.

X-Wing Blue 1 rockets out of hyperspace a good long distance away from the Star Destroyer and Snap immediately starts to go over his cockpit's instruments, bringing them online and firing up his scanners. "Domehead. Get the scanners going." He says to hia R2 unit who beeps and whirls and starts to scan the entire star system.

Snap flips on the squad comms. "All wings, report in." He says, taking a moment to finally look ahead at the behemoith Star Destroyer and... marvel at the sight of it off in the distance.

Nym has been following Wexley closely before the hyperspace jump and as soon as they snap out of the tunneled vision of travel. Serenno and the Finalizer looms in front of them like two foreboding large appointments. As soon as she's in communication, she speaks across the coms. "Red 2, reporting in," she tells Snap. Her eyes are clearly on the Star Destroyer in front of them. It's worrying. Talking about scanning it form the safety of the briefing room is one thing. This is another. However, her voice is confident when she adds, "Let's get what we can off this thing."

Jax flies in formation with Snap, "Blue 2, reportign in. Everything by the book." He adjust the sensors a bit, "Exine, I want you to mimic the specs of a Z-95 as much as possible until We're engaged. Start your sensor sweep." He looks over at the Finalizer. "Damn that's a big Star Destroyer."

Delphine comes out of hyperspace along side the other pilots. "Blue 3 reporting in squad leader. Flipping a couple switches and button pressing getting all the instruments in order, and flies into formation. He looks over at the planet at at the Star Destroyer. "You can say that again Blue 2" Delphine says over the comms.

Thirty years ago it wasn't that unheard of to find a ship of this size out in the galaxy. But in this day and age these sorts of things are so rare that most in the galaxy would've had no idea that ships could GET this big.

"If they don't see us already... they're going to real soon." Came the voice of Blue Leader, crackling some over the comm static in the radioactive mess that is space. "Lets jsut fly nice and casual right on up and knock on the door, maybe they've got some tastey treats on the oven that the'll share with us." NO fat jokes.

Captain Snap adjusted the angle of his X-Wing's trajectory, he flipped on his open com channel but wasn't hearing a word. "Serenno is as quiet as a graveyard. No ground starport communications what so ever." He says over Squad chat. "Not picking up any broadcasts from the Finalizer either. Its like they're all in radio silence."

The size of this ship is not lost on Nym. It's huge and intimidating. But, she is also determined to not fall to the fear of its size. Instead, she easily moves the ship alongside Snap - ready for anything. Who knows what the First Order may have in store.

"Well, then let's show them what we're made of," she says over the coms. It's certainly more bravado than she actually feels. Then, after a crackle, she adds, "I'm pretty sure if we go try and knock on the door they're going to offer us cookies." The smirk is clear in her tone. After the second transmission, she frowns. "I don't want to be that girl who says, 'It's too quiet, but...'"

Jax responds, "That means no active operations or patrols. That may be a good thing for us but I'm fining that disturbing, Blue Leader. Maybe they've already pacified the population" Hey Lofty isn't here. "So we knocking before we go up to the front door? That or should we keep s-foils locked."

Delphine stays in formation as he listens to the communications systems. "I've got a bad feeling about this. It's quiet. Almost too quiet if you ask me." Delphine says over the cracking comms. He keeps a constant look on the scanners and on the destroyer.

The droid behind Wexley's cockpit starts to beep and rumble out some binary words and a moment later Snap is looking at his control console. "Looks like we got company." Captain Wexley says. "There are two groups of two TIE Fighter patrols coming around the far side of the Finalizer." He announced to his wingmates. (Nym's droid starts to confirm this, though its a little late to be too useful compared to Snap's droid)

Then, suddenly over the open comms a Core World accented male voice is heard. "Unknown X-Wing Fightercraft. You are here-by ordered to deactivate your engines and prepare to surrender." The voice says to the Resistance wing.

Snap shakes his head inside of his flight helmet and speaks to his squad comm alone. "Don't bother talking to them, kiddos. We're not here for a chat, we're just getting our info and heading out. Keep flying... stay on target." He told them calmly as they were drawing quite a bit closer to the Finalizer now, causing it to get a lot larger in all of their cockpit viewports.

Thsoe TIE Fighter patrols were adjusting course and now headed in their direction, four TIE Fighters total.

Nym looks toward the far side as Snap points out the TIE fighter patrols. They were expecting resistance to their jump here - at least she was, so the appearance of the TIE Fighters doesn't come as a sudden surprise to her. Instead, she keeps on course, like Snap orders. While her gaze continually drags toward where the enemy is incoming, she doesn't waver. "Got it," she confirms over the comms.

She doesn't bother to respond to the voice - they'll know soon enough they're here against them.

Exine beeps and whirls at Jax, "What do you mean you forgot to start to recording your sensors? That's the whole reason we're here." Jax sighs, "Come on Exine. You keep promising." Jax adjust his trim. "Well get a look at the Ties. Those aren't R-41 or Z-95s at all." He then broadcasts, "Hey Blue 3. That bad feeling of yours. I think it's spreading."

Delphine stays in formation "Roger that Sqaud leader" he says over the comms. Delphine completly ignores the orders given by the TIE fighters surpized that his scanners didn't pick them up. "Yea Blue 2 looks like things are going to get a bit interesting in a bit." As the TIE fighers come into veiw Delphine is pressing buttons in the cockpit to make sure everything is running properly.

With the TIE fighters raging at them, Captain Wexley calls over the coms to his group. "Here we go. Keep your your wits about you, kiddos. Lets show them what regret feels like!" His astromech was busily scanning the data as per requested by the Resistance command and Snap... well, he was focused on the four TIE Fighters soaring straight at them. Red laser fire opened up on his X-Wings guns and he started unleashed red death at the first TIE that angled in on him!

As Nym focuses on the TIE Fighters, she keeps as close to formation as possible. This is about getting scans on the Finalizer. If she can draw the fire, that's the best outcome. As the enemy closes in, she starts to weave back and forth to make herself a harder target. While a blast hits her as she does so, she fires back, giving as good as she got. Breaking off from the formation, she dives downward and then up in an attempt to shake the TIE Fighter that seems to have lodged onto her tail.

Delphine pushes his thottle forward as he banks hard left as the TIE fighters open fire at the group. He starts firing at the group of them hoping to hit one but no luck doing so. As he leaves formation a TIE fighter takes chase after Delphine's X-wing. The Tie Fiter fires its laser and oe makes contact. Dephine jerks the contols a bit from the contact. "Okay buddy I see you wan to play rough. I can play rough to." He says as he starts preforming evasive manuvers.

Blue 1 spins through the space and lines up another shot with the TIE Fighter angling after him but he curses as the green blaster bolt from the TIE slaps right into the side of his craft causing a sudden burst of sparks and spacial flames that quickly die out across his hull. "Not good." He mumbled to himself, his R2-unit screaching in his ear about 'fly better'. Snap squeezes the trigger on his flight control but his shots all zap past the TIE thats performing evasive manuevers!

Nym maneuvers as best she can, whirling and twirling her ship as she does so. In her movements, she's able to shake the TIE fighter on her tail and circle behind. As she does so, she quickly fires, hitting her target and then careening away in their space dance. "How close are we to getting this information?" she asks over the coms. She's not badly damaged, but managing how she flies can certainly help with how she handles the others.

The TIE fighter pilots are competent, there's no mistaking that, but there's only four of them. Why aren't there more? The arrow-like mass of the Finalizer glides through space. In the hangar deck there is chaos. The TIE grapple has jammed, a TIE fighter wedged on the launch platform. Engineers are running around, and Alpha One, callsign 'Fuze', is yelling in her comms, "Get that piece of shit out of there!". She's second on the rail, her TIE engines glowing with the characteristic blue ion glow, her fingers clenching and unclenching in frustration on the control yokes. "Get it off my grapple!" But her four pilots are holding their own. TIE #1 comes round in a snap roll, unleashing devastating blasts from the forward-firing laser cannons at Delph. TIE #2's tail gunner is on the ball, but the pilot's turn is sloppy and slow, and is an easy target for Jax's X-wing, disintegrating into a cluster of metal and human shards that disperse in the blackness of space. By contrast, TIE #3 pulls a wicked inverted-G maneuver, dropping down behind her target, Jax, and blasting away, while the final TIE's combat turn is a complex maneuver that sends it sliding through space to come up exactly where it's needed to be. It's a pity the gunner is relatively poor, the X-wing was a sitting duck; the shots miss.

When the information dings complete like a tastey treat in a toasty oven, Snap fires one more shot at his TIE Fighter and then cuts throttle and turns hard to port. "We've got it!" He soays over Squad comms. "Full scan of the star system and that the Star Destroyer. Lets head out! Full throttle and set deflector screens full aft!" He orders his wingmates, glancing out to the starboard side of his ship just in time to see a TIE Fighter erupt into molten metal and death. "Nice shot, Blue 2! Lets head out!" His fighter's S-Foils begin to close up and the ship starts going and ridiculous speeds toward the hyper route exit location.

Jax takes advantage of the T-70s manueverablity to turn preforme a talon roll turning hard to the left and by the end of his turn facing 180 away from where he started. Exine lets out a mournful wail as Blue Twos shiels evaporate into nothing or near nothing. "Scatter! See you back at base, Red and Blue. Thanks Blue leader." Jax pulls back the lever to get his s-foils closed. "Exine, as soon as we can load hyper space slot two and get us out of here."

The last exchange of laser with the TIE fighter wasn't In Delphine's favor. Anither direct hit damages his X-wing as sparks fly from the bottom of the ship and wires and metal fly off while he was unable to make another hit. "Well this is unfortunate" He says with dab of stress in his voice. As the Squad Leader come over the communications about the scan being complete relified him a little. "Roger that Squad leader" and Blue 3 X-wing starts to gain speed and moves to into position to make the jump into hyper space.

Even though one of the TIEs is trailing a miasma of black smoke, all three of the surviving First Order pilots give chase. Laser blasts from the forward-facing L-s9.6 cannons flash past the X-wings or erupt on their shields, and at one point a Mag-pulse warhead missile corkscrews past. Then, as the X-wings move to make the jump, little pinpricks of light emerge in a cluster from the alert fighter hangar bay of the Finalizer. The engineers have finally dragged the ship off the jammed grapple, and Fuze and her flight are joining the fight. Too late.
