The Irregulars: Safe Is Just A Word

OOC Date: October 23, 2019

Participants: Jax Greystorm, Sesti Greystorm, Qadira Suuryet, Poe Dameron, Rial Het, Dyannah Nerus

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ Constricted streets and a sky so grey with smog that the stars can't be seen at night. Factory workers choke the streets, the market stalls full night and day with people changing shifts. Leilana. Old Town. Delaya, sister world to destroyed Alderaan.

The Colbird family had been placed on Delaya, under a meticulously constructed cover identity barely a month ago. The prior day, orders were given to discreetly get them back out, as the cover had been compromised. Rial and Dyannah managed to extract the family without incident, spirited away in the gardening crew's hover van. Small bags of personal belongings at their feet and very sober expressions on all of their faces. Arnkale Colbird's son, Tanver, the soberest of them all.

Of the Irregular agents themselves, however, both were still in the capital city of Leilani, hidden away in the Old City district, being watched or pursued by hostile agents and now in need of help, themselves.

Reinforcements had been called. They would trap the trappers and would need to sneak up on the ones following Dyannah and Rial and take them out without collateral damage.

Dyannah makes a foray outside of their apartment in hopes of flushing out the agents following them. Two agents immediately began following her, hardly trying to hide themselves which means that others are hidden. They look confident about catching their prey. The taller of the two, both fit men that carry themselves with the bearing of ex-military, speak into a com bead, pressing his lapel and a third person, a woman, appeared from a shop walking ahead of Dyannah.

"Rial. Trouble. Deep," the Zeltron says into her com unit before ducking under the cover of an awning and into a shop filled with hanging pots and pans. She knows there is an alley out the back way leading to their apartment.

<Sorry, a bit busy, luv-> Rial answers Dyannah via the comm after a too long moment of silence. <In the alley behind the pots and pans shop. Got a pair of tails. I'm heading inside.> Yes, the same shop Dyannah just ducked into. The pair are surrounded, and the realization will dawn when they both enter the same room. "Oh, hell."

Moments after both Dyannah and Rial duck into the shop, a pair of the reinforcement appear on scene and do what married couples do when they are in a retail district. Jax looks at one of the pans and frowns as he takes it down and holds it out to Sesti. "Is the quality worth the price? I mean I'm just happy with the ones we got?"

"That is because you are a man," Sesti replies with a snort. "Men are always happy with second rate." She takes the pan from him and turns it over in her hands. She peers along the bottom of it, her knuckle testing the soundness of the metal.

"I know, pal.. I'm following the damn.. encrypted.. quizmoto-thing.. just.. ah, here we go again.." Poe honks the speeder horn and leans out the window. "CAN'T YOU WALK SOMEWHERE ELSE?! COME ON!" Leaning back in, he glares at the separate lines of people as they cross in front of him. BB-8 warbles from the seat and Poe just motions with both hands. "What? Am I supposed to get out and push the lines to go faster?--Alright, alright.. hold on.." Poe puts the thing into gear, reaches over to the other seat with an offhand to look back. "..it's always something.." The speeder whips about backward, and before it's even come to a full stop, he's shifted the gear forward and jets down another path. "Don't tell me to slow down when you /just/ told me to hurry up."

There's a Kadi around, not far from Jax and Sesti, but Kadi looks to be bored, spoiled and with a droid to protect her, because of course someone has to protect such a sweet, innocent young lady. Who is obviously trying to fit in and failing badly. The droid that follows her though, he looks ready for a fight, should someone make the mistake of approaching his charge. "Pots and pans, really?" Kadi sighs, sounding just a touch truculent. "Could they have sent me to look for anything more boring?"

The agents out in the street send a signal to one another. The two following Dyannah miss her ducking into store stand confused, searching. The woman in front of her immediately ducks into the shop one door up. Out in the alley behind the store, the two agents that had been following Rial split going in opposite directions methodically searching the back door of each shop.

Inside the store, copper, chrome, stainless steel pans of all shapes and sizes hang from the ceiling sending glimmers of light across the room confusing the eye. Racks of pans stacked high line the walls. Along the wall are large pans for making jellies as well as professional cauldrons used in hotels big enough to hide a person in. The bell over the door tinkles and Dyannah tries desperately not to look behind her. There is a large cauldron on the right side of the shop that is fascinating, reflected in it are two familiar faces. She turns and puts a finger to her lips.

Rial Het's 'oh hell' morphs swiftly into a spreading smile as his eye is drawn from Dy to Jax, Sesti, and Kadi. "Thank the bloody fates, we just might make it," he breaths. Plucking a random pot and spatula off display he approaches the owner. "A fair day to you, see this one?" The pot is shown. "Your pardon for the short notice, but I'm going need as many of these as you've got on hand packed up for purchase. Can you have a look-see in the back and tell me how many that is?" He accompanies the vendor toward the storeroom, explaining he works for a restaurant and so on. Once the storeroom door slides shut, Rial deftly wedges the spatula into the track, to jam the mechanism and prevent the merchant from emerging into the anticipated firefight. "Sorry 'bout the spatula," he mutters in apology.

Jax chuckles, "Alright well not EVERYTHING I pick out is second rate." He says to wife and then glances back to see her gone. Jax frowns as he looks around the store and eyes fall on Rial and Dyannah. He mouths the words, "Oh Sith Spit. 3" His right hand coming up to rest on his chest holding up 3 fingers. His eyes falling on Rial, "So you run this place, which is the first rate pans?"

Sesti raises her eyebrows to Jax, "Good save," she tells him, leaning forward to give him a kiss on the cheek and lightly covering the three fingers on his chest with her own hand. "Just for that, I may cook you a good dinner, /if/," she holds up the pan she had been holding, "I can find a pot worth cooking in. Letting him go ask the supposed owner about pots, she hangs up the one she had and melts further into the shop, disappearing behind a cauldron that matches nicely with the mottled colors of her coat.

Poe comes to a stop just off the main street, and thankfully, away from the busy crowds that clutter Delaya. An annoyed look angles to the rear view before he glances over at the holo-read out and points. "There's an alley.. right there.." Poe says aloud, more for orienting himself than informing his counterpart. BB-8 says something, but the movement of three distinctly brisk walking agents catches his eye, then there's the matter of the back alley. "They need an exit, and the back alley looks to be the only way." Poe reaches behind the seat of the passenger side and frees the A280 CFE. He collapses the butt stock, powers up the pack which in turn brings the scope online with a crystal clear optic. Poe takes a moment to put his ear-pro in, then shoulders the compact weapon after rolling BB-8's window down. "BB-8, get ready to trigger the speeder alarm, buddy. I have to take this shot." If he hit this poor sod, it'd open the back alley for them to slip away from the three. <<..This is pretty boy-- I'm clearing out the back way but need a moment. Get to the back of the building..">>

Kadi comes in, behind most of the others, but there's an "Aha," from outside the door, as she finds the pots and pans. "Don't look at me like that, I didn't burn the bantha steaks!" she mutters to the droids. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't, but it's hard to say for sure. She is inside though in a moment, and blinks, then catches sight of those familiar faces. There's a moment of dismay left over. "The pots and pans are lovely," she murmurs. Which - since Kadi doesn't cook probably means something. "I'm told this is where to buy the best. are there any that won't burn bantha steak?"

Out in the street the agent's ears are buzzing as they check in with one another. Having both the alley and the street covered they know that their quarry is in one of the shops nearby. They methodically set to searching them, spreading out along the street.

Dyannah catches Rial's eye and nods deeply thanking him for getting the shop keeper out of harm's way. She sends him one pulse of panic as she surreptitiously points to the others in the shop. The big shopping bag she carries for her errands contains some red fruit and a large blaster. She reaches for her blaster.

Rial winks to Dyannah and gives a faint nod. "Well, sir," he answers Jax in a different voice. "That depends on whether you are preparing food privately or professionally. If you would like to see the very best, I would direct your attention to our 'Superbia' line.." Is that even a thing?? Poe's transmission prompts him to guide Jax and Sesti  toward the back of the shop, including Kadi with a gesture, "Right this way..."

Jax looks at Rial and goes walking his way, "Really? It's for private dining. I'm no professional chef. Though I've always fancied opening up a Corellian Cuisine restaurant on the planet." He says with a grin, "I think I'd call it Corellian Cooking."

Sesti sees the gesture from Rial, and nods. She pulls up her hood and pulls the helmet down over her head, adjusting the goggles. Then she makes her way along the wall behind the larger cauldrons and displays, keeping herself out of direct line of sight from anyone looking in or entering.

"..hit it now, BB-8.." The alarms blares and Poe's eye narrows as he looks at the running agent in the back alley. Just when the agent turns around and spots Poe, the ace pilot half grins. "..yeah, I see you too, pal.." His finger squeezes the trigger, and the A280 CFE responds in kind, emitting an overcharged red bolt from a custom barrel which crossed the distance between the ace and the agent.

The Agent's head snapped back upon impact, the concussive energy of the bolt spilling the contents of his head behind him in a sea mist of pink and red. There was no life after that. Poe observed him fall backward without ceremony and remain there. <<"Back is clear, push out now.">> "BB-8, kill it, and hold this.." The rifle lands on the droid who just lets it fall to the floor board in a defeated warble. "Of course you can't hold it, BB-8. I was being funny." Poe says just as the alarm is killed and he slips the speeder into gear. "Now's the perfect time for joking.." <<"I'm in a big rekking speeder heading down the back alley.. prepare to pile in..">> He turns the wheel with one hand, his other hand idly combing back through his messy hair; an idle nervous tick he had when he felt a little stressed.

Kadi glances about, the droid with her echoing the movement, keeping watch. Then she shrugs and follows Rial. "The best, or I'll never live it down," she says, with a nod. There's no reach for any weapon, just a somewhat bored young woman with an overgrown droid following after. She goes quiet then, an intent look on her face, as she listens and follows along. "Bugsy, please keep a watch behind me," she tells the B1 droid. Who just gained a name.

In the back alley, the action heats up. As one of the agents emerges from the back door of a shop, he sees his comrade go down in a burst of superheated brain. Over coms the agents searching for the Irregulars and auxiliary Irregulars are alerted by the one that ducks back into the shop and takes a shot at Poe. On the busy street the noise of people passing and traffic covers the sound of the shots.

"Someone just died," Dyannah announces to the group at large. "It is going to get tight."

Tight it gets as three agents find the shop that the group has all congregated in and begin firing indiscriminately. Red blaster fire ricochets off of metal surfaces doubling the chance of getting hit.

Rial Het is gesturing toward the pots as they move, inventing more pretentious names for cookware as they go.. But this was never a situation he could just walk out of, and deep down, Rial knew it. "Just get to the speeder and it'll be fine-" he voices to Dyannah, before trying some disdainful bluster about Corellian cooking to Jax, when he's recognized by one of his erstwhile pursuers. The first shot is a heavy blaster which does horrific damage to his right arm, nearly carrying the limb off and sending Rial collapsing to the tiles in shock.

Jax dodges to the side as a blaster bolt just barely misses him as one of his contacts goes down. Then Jax right hand flicks his blaster up firing a pair of blaster bolts at the source of Rials attacker. Then falling to the ground next to Rial as a blaster bolt from Agent 5 tries to kill him with his own blaster shot Jax fires again scoring another shot. "Splash one. Another contacted. Rial, talk to me!"

Sesti crouches lower as the bolts ricochet off of pans around her. She peeks around and sees Jax draw his blaster and reaches to her boot. She sees Rial fall, and before she can get to him, an agent falls almost in front of her. Her hand pulls the stun baton from her boot, but she can't reach for her saber from this position, she reaches for the next best thing. The woman shudders from the course of electricity through her body, and before she can lift herself up, the pot comes crashing down on her head. The 'bonk' can be heard above the din and she grins behind her helmet. "I am sure there is some wise comment about not leaving the kitchen here, but I am not the one with the wise cracks." She drops the pan, and unceremoniously crawls over the still twitching body towards Rial.

Poe is in the process of driving when a second agent steps out. "Aw rekk.." Is all he manages to say as the front of the speeder is riddles with blaster fire. The glass is singed with a few blaster bolts and the fluff in the seats go everywhere. Poe is struck in the chest and immediately spits up blood with a cough. He shifts it into gear, grunting and pulls right up next to the agent taking cover. "HEY.." Cough, cough. The Agent looks up and sees Poe is looking at him from across the passenger seat of the speeder. The agent rises, and Poe brings his blaster pistol up, firing off two rounds that miss entirely, but that was more Poe's anticipation and pain management. His third shot takes the agent center chest and spills them backward in a heap. A smoking hole in their clothing marks the spot where General Solo's pistol claimed yet another unlucky life. Poe has nothing to say. He throws the pistol into the cup holder and reaches down to activate his stupid personal shield, then.. there's the matter of a first aid kit.

Oh here we go! Kadi reaches for the blaster she's got, swiftly drawing it. You all can thank her husband for the upgrades to the model that he's had made for her. She fires, the first shot zinging off a pot near to where Jax is. "Ooops, sorry." She mumbles, mostly about the pot. That's gottta suck for the poor proprietor. She concentrates, and fires again, this time hitting the agent who is there, at least. "C'mon, we need out of here," she murmurs as she moves for a bit of cover, wincing as she realizes Rial has been hit. Poe? She doesn't know about that yet. "I still don't /do/ the squishy stuff," she mutters. That she'll leave to Jax and Sesti. because ... Ewwww!

Poe has the back alley covered in a major way despite him taking a wound, the greatest pilot in the galaxy perseveres. On the street, the last agent on the hunt for them is alerted when her comrades don't answer and cautiously looks into the storefront. The glare prevents her from seeing the other agents already supine on the floor. She enters and will regret it.

Rial has the Zeltron smiling until the surge of pain and fear nearby hit Dyannah, like one of those awful pans hanging in the front window, right up side her head. She reacts by looking at the door but has no time to warn Rial, she loses her sense of professionalism when he goes down. She drops to the floor to cover him and pulls the blaster out of the bag, squashing fruit as she flings the bag from herself. "You hold on, luv," she winces at the state of his arm. "We are nearly out of here if the police aren't alerted. We've got you."

Rebels and Resistance fighters have a reputation for keeping stiff upper lip under fire and maintain ironclad composure when wounded. But whoever spreads those tales has never seen Rial get shot. Jax says talk to him? Rial screams loudly, as if super-heated plasma had nearly blown off his arm. "Me rekkin ARM," he howls, before finally, mercifully, passing out. Eerily, his frame continues twitching in the throes of system shock.

Jax looks at Kadi as a pot hits the ground next to him. He opens a hand at her and raise an eyebrow, "Really?" Then he sighs, "Well that's talking." Then a look at Sesti, "Alright. Holding him now won't help him now." He says moving to help Dyannah up. "We need to movie him."

As Kadi finishes the last agent off, Sesti gets to her feet and makes her way around the Rial pile. "Come on Dyannah, we have to get him someplace safer for me to treat him." Her eyes quickly scan the situation and her hand reaches into her medpac. "Hold a second Jax," she says, and pulls out a cylinder. Her hand quickly sets the arm in the right position, since Rial has passed out he won't feel the pain of the motion and it makes her work easier as she sprays the quickly hardening splint around his arm. "There, his arm should not become any more damaged. Let us get him into the speeder." She puts an arm underneath him to help Jax lift him up.

Poe is waiting outside, his shirt open and placing an occlusive bandage over his own wound. When it's in place, and the pressure allows him to breath somewhat better, he tosses the first aid kit in the other cup holder. "Let's go people.. pile in and get familiar. We're leaving.-- Not now, BB-8-- I /know/ the police are coming.." Poe shifts the speeder into gear, dons his shades and places a hand upon the passenger's seat cushion to turn and look back. "Hang on.. I've always wanted to do this.."

Kadi might tell there's someone who just came into the front room, but she doesn't know who it is. "C'mon, let's move," she says, which gets her droids coming. Some protector - not a shot fired. But at last the flying Button and babble don't take a lot of space, each sort of finding a Kadi shoulder to rest on. And the B1 - he clambers into the speeder along with Kadi. Uninjured, ready to shoot out the rear window if needed. or something.

Will passerby's notice the contingent of bloody and just plain 'lets get the hell out of Delaya' folk? The sirens wailing in the distance start to lessen their odds as they pile out of the back door with the wounded Rial. A plastic plant falls to the sidewalk but the scintillating light of Poe's disco dice splashes light over the heros' faces. At the back of the shop, a door quivers under the blows of the shop owner.

Cradling Rial in her lap, the Zeltron says, "Step on it. The heat is on the way."
