Waywards: Homeless on Echodo

OOC Date: August 26, 2019 (Optional)
Location: Echodo
Participants: Qadira Suuryet, Ax, Jax Greystorm, Mandl, Ayeeou Wanaii, Kaelyn, Lorana Adella, Waywards

There are Waywards, and then there are Waywards, friends of friends, and friends. Today, there is a landing on a small out of the way world that nobody much cares about. Not the First Order, not the Republic, not even most pirates and smugglers. It's known for nothing, and barely at that. Echodo is not exactly a happening place. But it's a place where those who don't want to be seen or heard might well manage to find their way. At least some folks are in the Sands, enjoying the security the big ship provides. There isn't really an actual landing pad here - strike one against it. There are inhabitants, animals, insects, sentients too, but mostly all are nocturnal for some reason. Sensor readings have been taken, and those who came in their own ships are welcome to land however makes sense. Howsomever it happens, Kadi is standing on the ground. Atmosphere being checked by medical, and so on. Are all systems green?

"Hey, this is cool, the vegetation is kind of orange and pink. I don't know if it's sick or not, but it looks very strange. Oh, I guess I should take some pics of it, right? Or vid it for the holo or something." She's in a flight suit, still breathing air from the ship, at least. But it doesn't look like that will last very long.

Mandl chimes in: "Air composition... nominal. Within standard limits. The vegetation merely scatters different wavelengths of light. Novel elemental composition, Mandl has never seen the like. Gravity substantially over 1g, Mandl's afraid..."

So... if there's a bright center to the universe, they're on the planet that it's farthest from? For this trip, Ayeeou left her own ship on Nar. Instead, she came here with Kadi, and now is one of the people doing those medical scans. From the inside of the ship, of course. Can't be too careful. She likes to know ahead of time what she's breathing. Some people just don't like those sorts of surprises. People like the doctor. Mandl handles the array, but she's studying the results carefully.

Mandl does add: "Nobody make salads with native vegetables-- resist the urge."

Lorana's in the copilot's chair in case things get hairy and they need to go fast. "Orange and pink makes a difference from brown and gray on Nar," she says.

Jax was here for Jax reasons and doing Jax things. He stands next to Mandl and Kadi. He then reaches up to take the helmet off and takes a deep breath of air. "It's breathable. Smells like rotten plants but breathable."

Kadi looks at Jax, and as he takes off his helmet, she relievedly takes hers off. Hopefully Yee and Mandl's scans show that wasn't a bad decision. "Let's explore though, even if we're not picking berries and making salad. I mean, we still have a lot of things we can do, right?" She takes a step forward. The ground is rather springy under foot, and there is the sound of running water from down the way. The vegetation is mostly knee high, with what passes for trees off towards the sound of running water. In the other direction - open plain as far as can be seen, and it has a solid bedrock beneath it, solid enough to land ships on, though that will play havoc with the spongey springy vegetation. There are bugs flitting from plant to plant, and critters with wings flying through the sky. "Hey, Mandl, any direction in particular you think we should go? If not, I'm going to head for the water."

Kae is along! She's on her own ship! Maybe she followed? who know. And where there's one Sephi Sister there might be another too... Who knows...

Kae glances around the place, her hands held straight out to the side as she rotates at the hips, spinning some and letting her hands flop, then spin, and flop and so on as she looks around "Oooooooooooh, Nifty planet you've found!" She calls out cheerfully. No she's not finished twisting and flopping her hands...

Mandl says, "That will depend: goes Kadi want a mountain? A plain?" Mandl says, "... crater?"

Qadira Suuryet blinks and then says, "What's interesting, Mandl?"

Mandl shakes the prodigious melon! "Mandl is only asking what kind of geography suits Wayward need."

"Depends on what we want here? Mountain though might be good. Built into a fortress or something. But we ain't going to get many recruits." Jax says looking around. "Space station might be better."

Once she's determined that it's probably safe to breathe out there, Ayeeou makes her way out of the ship. She's got a hand scanner though, to continue studying the environment as they explore. And for this, she's in sturdy pants tucked into high, thick boots. She has a look around them, as she lets Kadi choose which way they'll go. "If we opt for this one, I'll do a more thorough scan to see what's edible here."

Kadi nods. With Lorana holding the ship, that leaves their escape route covered, so Kadi frowns a bit, nodding to Jax. "True - it's not high on my list of places," she agrees. "But it is at elast some place we might not be expected to be?" There's a rueful grin, and then she says, "Let's - yes, a mountain would be good - if there is one. Or we could go look at the water, because I want to know what colour it is. And if it flows upstream or in the air or something." She might be being just a little bit silly, yes. "C'mon, let's go." She pauses though, hearing a sound. "Wait, did you all hear that?"

"And Kaelyn, are you coming with us?" Kadi adds, though she is expecting the answer is yes.

Mandl makes *whoa whoa, hold on* gestures. "Is this a permanent base? A landing-strip only? Do you want offices or laboratory space? Mandl is confused! While nothing is flatly... wrong... for almost any purpose, some terrain is better-suited to one application than another. We must make decisions." kadi, the engineer, pauses to stare at Mandl. "Uhm, you're way ahead of us, Mandl," she says after a moment. "This is an exploratory mission to decide if we will make any use of this place at all. None of that has been decided. Well, I sure haven't decided," she says, with a smile. "Consider it a fact finding mission to learn about more than just the terrain, as there are other factors than terrain which can influence such decisions."

Mandl points out: "Yes, but to a geologist: 'terrain first.'"

Yee isn't always listening, so when Kadi asks that she looks curious and tries to hear anything beyond normal nature sounds. "What did you hear?" she asks, taking a step back towards the ship. It's like she's heard questions like that before, on strange planets.

Ax had been scouting in one of the Phantoms, using the advanced sensors that the ship had to get a better feel for things. So far, he wasn't impressed. Having landed next to the ship the others brought in, he hops out, shedding his flightsuit for more comfortable clothing and strapping on his weapons belt. Now, it was a matter of finding his wife and her companions, which is easy enough for the man of a million obscure talents.

Kae is well, she's Kae, somewhere with the group? maybe off to the side? Definately with, off to the side. She's over next to her vessel and looking around curiously... "Helloooooooo?!?!?!?!?!" She calls out to no one in particular... "Ya know this'd be a greaaat place for a picknick!" She then blinks a bit and picks up a random flat pebbel and tosses the thing... No she's not paying attention to where she is or going...

Another pebble, another toss.... Kae oohs and looks around, now peering toward Kadi "Oooh whatcha heeere?" Aaand she tosses another pebble off in a random direction. This can't be great can it?

Mandl indicates a bank of weirdly-colored reeds, and a certain concealed space within. "Something has nested there. Some creature. Mandl knows your visions do not all extend into the infrared, but it-- is warm. Recently used."

Kadi glances at Kae, and chuckles. "I don't know, but I think it was from over - Oh." A pause. "Guess we scared it," she says. There's a nest, she heard a noise, whatever built the nest is apparently running away, makes sense, right? "C'mon, let's go see the water." She continues along the way, just following the sound down a gently sloping terrain. Ax can probably still even see them, and for sure he can see their tracks, though the ground is bouncing back up behind them. It's not really that far to the waterfall and river, wide enough that it can't be jumped by normal unaided means. There's trees on the other side, roots visible here and there as they gobble up the lime green water. Kadi makes a face. "I'm not drinking that," she offers.

A nest? Yee's eyebrow ridge rises some, and she looks towards the reeds. Her small mouth purses slightly, then she says - more to herself than the others - "These never end well..." She glances towards the ship again, the Nautolan reconsidering how much exploring she really wants to do today. But, Kadi wants to go see the water, so they go to see the water. She keeps looking around them, though. And scanning. And the water is lime green, so she takes out a small vial to gather a sample.

Mandl waddles over to Yee, scientific curiosity taking over somewhat.

Jax was well mostly being a tourist at this point. He nods his head, "Well this planets got fauna. Every things got a nest or a den." He says lookign in Mandle and Yee's way. "Lots of nutrients and stangant pool? I mean we'd see it that one summer at the pond in the park. You remember that Kadi? When we were kids."

It doesn't take Ax long to get to the others. "Alright, interesting choice, Kadi," he says. Since he'd been in the fighter, Ax hadn't brought his pet tailring along with him.

Ax looks around for a moment. "By the way," he says, gesturing over towards a thicket of bushes. "There's something pretty big over there. Not sure what, but it's as big as a person."

Mandl suddenly brandishes the form of an Adhesive Grenade and with the press of a button, Mandl activates it!

Mandl, head canted toward Yee's results, all-the-same removes a fist-shaped canister from their kit at Ax's description.

Yee smiles at Mandl as he waddles her way. A sample is taken, and stowed. And another sample taken of the dirt. And then bits of flora. It's good to know more about what's here, if they are thinking about using it as a fallback site. Ax is given a wave as he joins them, then that ridge goes up again at the mention of whatever's out there. Good thing there are armed people around.

Kae blinks and looks to where Ax is pointing "Do I gets to pets it?" She says cheerfully... Kae does have her hand on her dl-44 and flops it to stun just in case, but yeah she wants to pet the person-sized whatsit! "Ya think it'd make a great pet?" She asks now.. Kae must have been binging on Choco the whole way over too by the way she's acting.

Kadi grins at Ax. "We had to start somewhere." She shrugs and scrubs her fingers through her hair. pausing to glance over where Ax is pointing as he points out there's something there. Mandl's automatic reaction is noted, wide eyed, and Kadi steps instinctively closer to Ax. She starts to say something, but before she can, feathers sort of explode out of that bush right at Jax as he moves closer. There is a sort of eekeekeekeeekeeekkeeek sound as they backpedal, and then what looks like a giant feathered bunny rabbit takes off running anywhere away from the group. At a nice clip.

Mandl swipes a finger over the activation switch of the Adhesive Grenade and the small blinking lights across the weapon's surface suddenly deactivate...

Mandl says, "... ah, antclimactic. But not unwelcome."

Feathered. Bunny. Yee blinks her huge eyes twice. Then, she's forced to look towards Kae with fascination. It's like she's absolutely certain the sight of the big fluffy thing might have a serious impact on the other female.

Jax was laying on the ground from where he's been knocked down. He stares up at the sky, "I'm not sure how I feel about that, Mandl. You weren't ran over by the creature." He says getting to his feet and dust himself off.

Blink... Blink.... aaaaand Kae's chasing off after the feathery bunny thing! "Eeeee! I wants it I wants it!" She calls out, flailing as she races off toward the creature... Someone might want to catch the goofy Sephi.... Or not, see what happense! As Kae hits the brush, her hands can at least be seen still flailing above her head "Feather Durniiiiii!!!!"

Mandl *facepalm.*

Jax Greystorm looks at the others, "Who is she and where did she come from?"

Ax just shakes his head, chuckling a bit. As Kaelyn runs chasing the local fauna, he just shakes his head. "Turbolift doesn't go all the way to the top with that one," Ax says to his wife in the Echani language. "Why is she here?"

TD-BLE 'Babble' ( 9442) repeats after Ax, "Turbolift doesn't go all the way to the top with that one, Why is she here?"

"Uhm," Kadi starts. She looks at Ax, then over at the others. "Jax, are you okay?" she starts with. "Yee, will you check?" She looks at Mandl, a half grin at his comment, and then over to the crazy Sephi. "Kae - " Then to Jax. "That is Kaelyn, she's a really good engineer, and a bit crazy, it seems." She pauses and then says, "Well, hyper and impulsive." She watches where the Sephi is going, and squints. "Uhm, Kaelyn, watch out!" She shouts loud enough it echoes so if there was anything around that didn't know the group is here, they do now.

When Mandl facepalms, Yee laughs. "You really didn't see that coming?" She totally did, and continues to watch the Sephi run off after it, shaking her head slightly as she goes to make sure Jax isn't damaged from his close encounter. And then the droid translates what might have been meant not to translate, and she laughs again. Thank goodness Kae took off after the thing and probably is well too far to have heard it.

The Bunny thing is actually really fast, when it runs, and there is no way the crazy Sephi is going to catch it. It also swims like there's no tomorrow.

Kadi turns back to Ax and says, "She asked to come, she was bored I think." She glances at Babble, and then back to Ax and shakes her head.

Aaand now Kae can be heard Calling "Durni Ran awaaaay!" Another pause... "Ooh! I found water! It's stinky, and smells like rotten eggs and dead stuff!!!" She calls out, and maybe her hands can be seen waving?

She might have even heard the droid, maybe not but she also calls out "And no one has -ever- called me normal!!!" Maybe it's being defensive? Who knows.... Mandl says, "Is Mandl's co-worker. A very talented... engineer..."

There's an impulse to cut the stupid droid into a few pieces, but Ax refrains. He just lets out a little bit of a sigh and looks back towards his wife. "Savant in engineering maybe, but I stand by my previous comment." He looks towards Jax. "You alright, man?"

"So... She's you're average engineer?" Jax says standing up. "I'm fine. There's no need to have me checked out. I'm fine."

Kadi gives Jax a look, a little worried, but he doesn't look broken. "I taught her a bit, when she first came to Nar Shaddaa, but she's jumped out on her own. I am pretty sure she's above average. With the potential to master the craft one day. If she doesn't get killed chasing - animals." There's a moment of blinking, and she says, "Shall we go see what water she found?"

Mandl looks to Yee? Is that recommended, their gaze seems to imply?

When Jax assures them that he's fine, Yee nods to him and aborts her planned inspection. She looks back to the rest, then says "The more samples I can collect, the better. I'd rather see the worst the planet has to offer, so we know the risks of putting a base here."

Mandl's hand hovers back over that grenade...

Kae is walking back and forth near said water.. "I dun think this'd be really good for anything... maybe if you had reaaallllyyyyy crazy good filtration and purification... It's kinda swampy tooooo...." She says and then glances around and ohhs! "Heeey, I designed and built my own fighter!" She calls out cheerfully... "It's like suuuuper maneuverable and has 4 lasers that cycle faster than a t-85's... Oh and really really big magazines for its torpedo launchers too!!!" She says, then she peers at the water again, and pulls a holo camera out to take a picture.... "Doop dee dooop.." Shes now singing some kinda goofy song, and soon enough she's putting her camera away and pulling out what looks like some kind of bar wrapped in plastic... Or maybe foil? It's apparently choc... Dark choco... Extra dark choco....

Kadi starts off, assuming the gentlemen and the droids will come along with her. She heads over towards Kaelyn. "C'mon, Yee, I like exploring." She's got a bag of stuff on her back, her ruck sack of adventure, more or less that's what it is. Anyway, she heads over, catching sight of Kae, and tilts her head. "I know you did," she replies easily. "it's a nice ship too." She moves to look in the water, which is quiet and still. There's the sound of bugs buzzing by and birds in the distance. Or whatever passes for them here.

Mandl *snif, snif?* Bith-senses and intellect are engaged, determining what (if anything) is remarkable about the mess they wade through. That does not preclude the careful, gentle progress of a person unsure what awaits over the next rise or behind those bushes... carefulll...

Ax looks to his wife, "Jax and I saw that fighter in action the other night. Moved pretty well, and it's a good fighter. Not on par with the Phantom, but it's definitely better than your standard commercial bird. Definitely looked agile as hell."

Yee doesn't have a Ruck Sack of Adventure. She just has a small Pack of Minor Wandering. Maybe in a few more levels... She follows Kadi over towards the still water, and takes out another few vials to collect more samples. "It sounds like a very interesting ship, Kae." she says with a smile as she sets about doing her thing. Carefully. They are adventuring, after all. Things happen on adventures.

"DId well, it did.' Jax looks at the woman dancing about. "Did she fly it or was somebody else flying?" He looks over at the water, "You feeling anything?" He says looking to Ax.

The ground does get soggy and it's a pond that Kae has found. Kadi stands by the side, looking at it. She glances at Ax and then over to Jax, and then back over to Kae. "I don't know - who was flying your ship?" she asks, curiously. She knows they are on an adventure, and so she is being careful, of course. Well, mostly. She's watching the water, it's still as can be, but there are some waterlilies out there, and that catches her attention, just as a really large frog jumps and gets eaten by an even larger - something. Kadi's eyes widen. "Uhm," is all she can say. "I don't think I like this planet.'

Kae peers over at Axe and grins a bit "I'd put it on par with that Phantom, prolly a bit better'n the Vendetta... NOt because it posesses heavier arms, but it's got a cyclic rate a full 50% faster than the X-wing, meaning it can throw out a ton of firepower really fast. It's a purpose built space superiority fighter. It's magazines are huge too... I can cram a whooooole bunch of torpedos, be it proton or iion or mag pulses into the bays..." She says and shrugs "Then again, which fighter is as good or is better is all a matter of opinion too." She says cheerfully. "Sucker costs a ton though.... The sensor suit on it is top notch too, high end shields, as good as I could obtain.. went with Mon Cala construction on the shield gens too... And I say it in plurality here.. It's got 2... To be honest, it's a totally different platform than the Phantom, or the Vendetta... I do know that it's a whoooooole bunch of fun to fly... And yus I was flying it at the battle..."

Jax Greystorm shrugs, "I'm not the one who designed the Phantom. I just was flying it." He whistles, "Nice flying too. " He stands back from the shore and looks to back to Ax. "You feeling anything?"

Ax looks to Kaelyn and just shrugs. "I said it's a good ship." His attention is then drawn to the water again. "Everyone back away from that please," he says in a rather firm tone, though not very loudly. He glances at Jax. "Yeah, there's some local fauna here that's predatory. We should probably get moving."

The others can geek about their ships, but it's all gone far past Yee's interest in the subject. She focuses instead on their surroundings. And any creatures in their surroundings. Things eating other things don't bother her, of course. But, she does note conversationally about the critter that did the eating "There's a chance that's a colony creature, by the way. Meaning, not solitary. Mayyyyyybe we should give the pond area some space." she says as she starts to move back. In time? Let's find out.

Kadi turns to look at Ax and then Yee, and just as she's doing that, there's a tongue snap that grabs Babble. Kadi reacts instinctively to one of her droids getting nabbed, and she grabs the droid, which has the relatively petite engineer get dragged to the water along with the squawking droid. "Hey, you let go! That's my droid!" Kadi says. Which it's not so much that the thing can hear her, but it can only carry that extra weight by its tongue for so long, so it drops, tongue sliming Kadi on the way, as it retracts. And Kadi drops to the ground with a loud splash.

Mandl hurries back to help Kadi!

Ax is quick to go for his wife. "Droids can be replaced," Ax says as he's quickly pulling her back, away from the water. "We're damn sure not going to go to Felucia with this group." As he's pulling her away, he looks to Jax. "Keep your senses open. This place is gonna end up killing someone if we're not careful."

A glance is given to Yee and Mandl. "You two alright?" he asks. He doesn't really look towards Kaelyn, figuring that she's the type of person who just has sheer dumb luck and nothing was going to hurt her anyway.

Mandl nods. "Mandl's reflexes were sufficient."

Kae's quickdrawn her pistol, The thing is out seemingly in an instance as she sees the thing with the tongue, and it finally lets go of Kadi... Kae squints and puts the pistol back... "Eeeef, some crazy wildlife here!!!!" She then tries to get a picture of the predator as she moves a little closer to Kadi, maybe ready to protect? who knows with the Sephi...

Jax reaches out with his hand and stops the droid from getting dragged further into the water by the creatue. Though it still hovered in mid air. He knew Kadi would be safe with Ax. "Reasonable request. Though I'm beginning to think we need to look for another planet."

Yee starts towards Kadi when she's pulled and then drops when the droid is released, but others are much faster than she is. "I'm alright." she says to Ax. "But I'm also thinking maybe we should keep looking at planets. This might not be the one we want."

Kadi gets pulled out by Ax, though she's splatted, wet, and disgruntled. She reaches a hand to thank Mandl as well for his assistance. "Thank you," she says. "You are all good at keeping me safe." She takes a breath and nods to Ax. "They can, but that's my droid, not some icky tongue - Yee, my fingers are starting to sting a bit." Maybe there's a slight allergic reaction - not fatal, but one never knows. "I think maybe we should go back to the ship," Kadi says after a long moment, admitting defeat. She looks more than a little crestfallen.

Mandl shrugs. "We have data. It remains to be processed. It could be nicer than those worlds we have yet to see?"

"Yeah, we need to find one with more civilization on it. While I'm good with having an emergency bolt hole somewhere remote, it's not good for business," Ax says as he's steadily urging his wife away from the water. "I think we'll strike this one off the list. Go ahead and remove Felucia as well, and probably Myrkr, Dxun, Kashyyyk, and a few others."

Jax Greystorm shrugs, "Maybe not Kashyyyk. They got good meat pies and some civilization." He says causing the translation droid to zip back to him. He lowers his hand, "You alright Kadi?"

Kae tilts her head "ya looked at that station. The Wheel I think it is? Not too terribly far from Shaddaa, LOOOTs of resources... Less yer dead set on a planet?" She asks curiously... "Also as far as bolt holes, I like tat.. Tat's a great place to go to to dissapear for a bit." She says with a big grin..

Yee thinks for a moment, then says "I don't really have a head for this kind of thing, but we might want to have a small something on a planet like this one, that no one would ever really want to go to because it's just not friendly. Somewhere to fall back to if things get so bad we can't chance going where there's any comm traffic. Maybe not this one, but..." The First Order is making things pretty uncomfortable in the galaxy, after all.

Kadi scowls a bit, and gives Ax a glance. "You pick the next one to explore then," she offers. She turns to look at Jax, and says, "I'm not hurt, just - embarrassed." She looks at Mandl and nods. "True, we might find worse places, but that doesn't make this one my favourite." And then a nod to Yee. Then her attention goes to Kae. "The Wheel? What is the Wheel?" A glance at Jax and then Ax - do they know?

Ax looks back to Jax. "Ever been below the civilized areas of Kashyyyk? I'd rather not risk one of our people accidentally ending up down there."

Ax looks to Kaelyn. "The Wheel was a consideration, but I'd prefer planetside with clean fresh air instead of recycled stuff, and if I'm going to a desert planet, it's not going to be Tatooine." He shudders at the thought. "That place is a dump, worse than Nar Shaddaa."

Yee gets his attention next, and the Echani nods. "Yeah, bolt holes on obscure planets aren't a bad thing, but I don't think this is the right one." He gives Kadi a nudge, "Could always go to Dagobah," he says with a sly grin. "The Wheel is a massive station in the Besh Gorgon system. It's a mix of Nar Shaddaa and Cloud City, just without the luxury of Cloud City. A little bit of everything there, but it's an easy target for the First Order to lock down if they choose."

Mandl nods. "It seems more research is necessary, but we all have stories of being caught with spacesuits down. Jocular anecdotes for sharing adult beverages!"

Yee listens to the others, then says "Planetside is better, I'd think. If something breaks down, you don't have to wonder if there will be air. And growing and finding food is easier. I'd suggest a swamp, actually. Lots of life, so lots of food options. A little damp, of course. And predators. But that's what walls and blasters are for."

Mandl adds: "Mandl and Adhar were once nearly swallowed by a whale-- we escaped it only by firing escape-pods to dislodge it!"

Kae shrugs "Well there's thaaat, and yus Tat's kind of a dump. LIve dthere for a couple years. Liked it well enough, but then again, lots of ships for me to work on!" she says and waggles her arms in the air... "Looots!" she then ummms.... "Aaanyhooo, if the FO wants to dump a ton of resources into locking down a planet, it's gonna pretty much be locked down..." she says and rubs at the back of her neck... "Soo whatcha needs, is a forrested planet, lotsa fresh air, habitation nearby... Umm ya looked at Takodana mebbe? Ummm" She taps her chin trying to think of places.....

Kadi chuckles at Kae's thought process. "Actually yes, that is on the list," she says. "Takodana I mean. But - we wanted to spend some time looking around, see what is out there." She sniffs a bit, and then says, "Babble is going to need to be totally cleaned, and - well, me too. And I might have to burn this outfit or something if we can't get it clean. Let's go back to the ships and we can figure out where we want to check next?"

Mandl makes sure everyone has the number of digits they arrived with before waddling back onboard...

Jax Greystorm shrugs, "Fair enough? You ever been on the lower levels on Nar or Coruscant?" He grins at Kadi, "It's all good. You couldn't have got it on the first one. Ax one of us should take up point and the other follow the others."

Kadi only gives Ax a dirty look for that Dagobah line.

"I'll take point," Ax says to Jax. "You take up the rear." With that said, he pulls a pair of curved cylinders from his belt. "Yee, get Kadi to tell you her experiences with swamps," he says with a chuckle as he begins leading the way back to the ships.
