Xoyut Chronicles 2: Trench War

OOC Date: January 18, 2020
Location: Xoyut, Kalamith sector, Outer Rim Territories
Participants: Zee'Roh Kora, Sumi Kora, Ca'tra Kora, Kirioth Kora, Lozen and Hadrix Kora (GM)

Since the breech of the enemy lines, the forces commanded by Lord Commander Cetur have been enjoying continued succeess, turning the trenches into kill-zones. Use of heavy gases have been used as 'clearing' agents to eliminate some of the opposing forces, field bunkers have been wiped out. The body count has been astronomical.

"There has been considerable resistance in grid-sector six. We're prepping assault squadrons, but the Gyid monarchs have asked that we acquire further Mandalorian aid... I am assuming payments have cleared already." Cetur's cyan skined, bug eyed and wide mouthed, face showing in the holofeed from within the repulsor APC traveling through cover points.

"We know that east of the drop point the trenches lead to a command point, we expect one of their field leaders to be present there; and it seems to be the point where an influx of droid troops have been coming in from. Northwest have been nothing but teams with automatic weapons, squad weapons and we believe it the location of an AA turret that has been sniping scout craft. Let the transport driver know which assault point you wish to move on, and good luck to you."

Cetur's visage fades, leaving the crew to their decisions.

Zee'Roh sits on the transport reading the mission brief provided by their liason on the HUD of her Helmet. She has her rifle strown across her thigh, which is raised with her heel hooked on the bench seat across from her. One gauntlet wrapped around the wood finished shaft of the slugthrower, Zero out of his brackets over her left shoulder with manipulation arms extended fiddling with the relay uplinks on Zee's armored pauldron.

<"The droid soldiers could reenforce the rest of the engagement and make any future operations or attempt to hold secured points complicated. My threat analysis would be that expediant elimination of those reenforcements drastically improves our margin of success."> It's not her decision, but a clan wide one.

So Zee presents her suggestion.

Lozen listens to all this and ignorea the looks she gets. The looks? May have something to do with the rounded belly one does not normally see on the battle field. UNLESS one happens to be Echani in which case it's perfectly normal. She perks at the potential targets and looks to the others to see how they receive this news. Lozen pipes up, "I could sneak up and try to take out the turrett operator?"

The doctor carries a blaster along with her med kit. The med kit is fat with enough field bacta dressings to cover their own personnel and aid others in the fight around them. It's Ca'tra's way not to leave wounded to shift for themselves. Lightly armored in the colors of the cliffs of her home, tans and buff, she adjusts her shemagh around the bottom of the round helmet. The visor silvers as the overlay of the HUD goes online.

<Into the breach, vod> she says over their private coms.

Roth is dressed in her armor and seated quietly on the transport as they are briefed. She was known for being quiet and well, this situation was one of those times where it was eerie sometimes. She gives a nod to the others as they talk on things and then back to the information that they have already.

With a rolling bump the APC sets down after its movements drew it east. Periodic slug fire spangs off the hull, but doing not much more than scraping paint. Doors open opposite the trench line opening but the smell of cordite, expended tibanna, and plasma fire. The scream of artillery and the CLUD of detonations against earthworks rising in the wake.

Gyid infantry are on a firing line, watching down the eastward trenches, huddling behind cover - often raising a weapon to fire blindly. Just sides keeping one another's heads down for now, but there are lanky combat droids in clumps down that path, enough to look like several units have been barely held back.

Zee steps to the back of the transport and looks down into the combat zone, <"Force Multiplier."> Said a half second before she steps off the back and fires rockets as she descends amidst a blaze of infantry taking shots up at her. She lands with a crunch of earth, DL-44 in hand, swiveling as if on targetting aim-assist, towards targets all around her.

Looking, because she is one, very much like a robot set to kill.

Zero hovers off the transport to provide tactical data relayed through Zee's helmet to the rest of the Clan and their allies.

Blaster and slugfire erupt all around the airdropping Mandalorians... and not quite Mandalorian. Descending into the trenches even as distant turret fire streaks by. Once everyone is out, the APC is up and moving.

Out of view, around a bend, a streak of red trailing black smoke rises and smashes into the side of the craft, sending it spinning out of control to smash into the side of the western trenches, imbedding itself into the earthworks, engines sputtering but killing before the craft can explode.

<<"Aliit, I show your transport is down, Laar'Kote is ready to lift for emergency pick-up in five">> Hadrix's voice rumbles over comms.

The enemy forces attempt to rally, only three remaining - pumping slug and blaster fire at Kiriroth and Ca'tra - trying to strike the armored figures rocketing into the trenches.

Zee'Roh, by all definitions, is a terminator.

Stalking through the trenches towards the remaining trio of infantry situated to prevent the Mandalorian Onslaught, she turns her head to make sure Kirioth and Ca'tra are okay, which causes her to miss her first shot.. but the follow up pair are ruthlessly accurate. The first takes the soldier clean off his feet with a fist sized hole in his chest, while the second bores directly into an the infantries face.

It is not pretty.

Lozen can't do much to aid her wounded friendlies except to keep firing so that's what she does, charging forward and firing at everything infront of her that moves. <<We're leaving already?>>

Luck is not smiling on their unit as Kiriroth is wounded then Ca'tra is wounded in turn without taking a shot. She stumbles and sits hard, feet splayed in front of her. Toggling coms off with her tongue, she curses a blue streak and stuffs a bacta patch through the hole in her armor. Then rises still cursing to herself, she follows in Zee's footsteps. Three times she pours fire into Ouirdi charging on them, only the last shot greasing her target.

Roth listens to the incoming and there's a moment she waves to the other Kora's, "We've got incoming." she states over the comms. Then she's heading for the trench, on the way she's searching the fallen soldiers and pulling things off their belts. GRENADES! "I've got a plan. Anyone else got Demo experience?" she asks as she hops down into the trench to see about setting things up, "Please don't explode on me..." she whispers.

The detonation of the explosive catches Kirioth when the others see her suddenly up and running. All others are clear, thankfully, but the wave of pressure is enough to push the others back while the weakened explosion puts the Arkanian face down with shrapnel cuts in her undersuit.

Down the trenchline, there is no sound, but there is a nice new bit of cover from the blown out earthworks. Then the first matte gray painted figure looms into view, swinging left and right, trying to find targets and finding none while the other forces hover just out of view, for now.

Real recognizes real.

Zee's helmet turns towards the grey patterned battle droid lumbering towards them down the trenchline. <<"I've got the toaster.">> Murmured into Comms, breaking into an approach with her blaster up firing a trio of shots that go wide of the target or ricochette off the thick armored platting.

Lozen switches her blaster for her ax as she lopes forward but she stops and pauses to peer at a strange thing she's found amoungst the fallen forms, <<Found something! It looks like a holoprojector and comms? The comms are active>> She picks it up with one hand and tosses it towards the nearest friendly, having no clue what it is or what to do with it but trusting one amoungst the mandos will have a plan for this.

That is that she passes it along before she closes the distance towards the droids and gives a soft grunt at Zen Smash.

There is a lull in the general turmoil of the battle. It's an eerie silence brings the whistle of the wind as it negotiates the twists and turns of the trenches and something else. The unmistakeable sound of mechanical footsteps that rises and falls with the vagaries of the wind.

Kiriroth confirms what she hears over coms. <Roger that, Kiri. No demolitions experience here.> The words are barely out of her mouth before a blast knocks her back, wounding Kirioth yet again.

Those mechanical steps devolve into toasters. Blaster steadied in a two hand hold to compensate for her wound she fires on the oncoming droids. One stutters in place under the onslaught of her blaster, stutters and drops in place.

<<"Be advised, you have close air support on station. Sorry I'm late.">> It's Sumi Kora. From the cockpit of the Kyber Heart, the VCX-100 that emerges from the cloud cover above this skirmish. "I have thermals online, Miss Sumi.. and their IFFs are pinging back. I have a target to engage..." Lady Fae says, switching her hands to take hold of the gunner controls to angle their laser cannons. Sumi angles their ship on approach and begins to increase their speed. The golden engines of the craft grow brighter as the ramrockets kick to life and the vessel breaks supersonic speeds. From the cockpit, Sumi smiles, feeling the rattle of the ship's frame. "Woof, these new engines make my toes curl."

Their assault consumes one of the trenches, pelting it with loud thumps of concussive blasts that develop small waves of debris that fan out after every impact. One trench section collapses, then craters with gray smoke. Only two infantry luckily stumble from the chaos of the pass, and a droid manages to withstand the concussion.

Sumi angles the craft around, smiling painfully. "Good run there, Lady Fae." "Thank you, ma'am."

<<"Let us know if you need more love, ground team.">>

Roth manages to leverage herself up off the ground and she starts to make like she's going to rocket off...but...there's just sputtering from her starscout armor. "I swear..." she grumbles as she decides that her legs will work JUST FINE. This time. She finds the nearest war droid and takes a swing at it, which misses in a breathtaking way as she spins herself around. And apparently reorienting herself is what she needed. "Stand still!" she shouts before she swings for the things leg and knocks it's aim off. The thing wasn't moving really. She was just having a bad day.

Devastation, dirt and dust in the air, cannon fire melting soil to slag and those amphibious troopers remaining come out firing wildly and panicked - without much effect. Their eyes are almost entirely pupils and they look deafened from the concussion that went off around them. The droid among them that survived tumbles out of soil, clattering to its feat and extending a repeater barrel that is jammed full of dirt.

The droid with the blade in its leg bleeps and GRONKs while it is made unable to fire - though it does bring its weapon around to dole a harsh blow to Roth's shoulder and clavicle, threatening to snap bone if not just bend and bruise.

Zee is quickly realizing that these droids aren't your run of the mill battle bots, they're more akin to her own kin than to her former companions, so she treats them accordingly. Dipping down beneath a pair of attacks, moving with surprisingly grace for someone wearing heavy armor, she takes shot with her blaster that miss twice, but finish off the damaged droid with a bolt directly through the spinal fusion plates keeping it bi-pedal.

<<"Sumi, we might need more air support. These droids are built tougher than their chassis class. Zero, try to find the location where they're receiving their orders.. I have an idea.">> Said to her hovering Seeker droid well above the combat, who beeps and complies, trying to locate the site from which the command signal is being issued.

Lozen lets the smashes another droid with a girlish grunt of effort, she does love her vibroacts but she really does need to upgrade her arsenol, <<Might it have something to do with the pack I found on one of the fallen infantrymen? I should go back and find it?? she begins to retreat so she's not in Sumi's way in clearing up the field.

<Love that air support. Good for calling her in again, Zee> A few of the droids withstand the impact of the first strike, one listing to the side staggers through the smoke. Aiming for the other leg Ca'tra takes him down and it collapses out of the fight.

Roth's...worse for the wear. The Arkanian doesn't let it keep her down though. She moves toward the next infantry man and the starscout clad woman starts to lay into him, the vibro sword whirring as she carves into flesh. And sadly he loses an arm. She looks down to it and makes a quiet note to herself before she readies her blades for the next target.

<<"Copy, Zee. Just tell us what you want hit and we'll do our best.">> Sumi says over the comms while flying the ship high up once more. Concealed within the clouds, the vessel has effectively disappeared for now, but they can hear the Kyber Heart's engines as it circles, awaiting the next appropriate moment to attack.

Zee sees Kiri taking more than her share of the attacks and changes directions, even while reading the tactical readout fed to her from her Seeker droids scan, <<"Solid copy, Aliit. Zero is marking target for attack run, a group of spec-ops soldiers with Battle droid escort entering the AO.. They're not in range of us, but they will be shortly, light their ass up and then come in for a med-evac. Kirioth is heavily damaged and is no longer combat effective.">>

If Kiri wont move, Zee is more than capable of moving her, <"Get down. Ca'tra, we need you over here to stablize Kiri for evac coming in hot. Lozan, take that hutt sucker out before he gets another shot, please and thank you?">

<"Everyone pucker your buttholes, we have a fire mission coming in danger close.">

Lozen is starting to get winded. The pregnancy hasn't made her rolly polly or slow to move but it does make this sort of work much more taxing. As such the swing goes wide and she gives an irritated growl and at least keeps it's attention on her so it doesn't shoot anyone else. Hopefully.

Using the smoke from the last airstrike to cover her movements. Ca'tra comes running back to Zee's position. Through her HUD she sees the icon for Kiriroth, then sees the woman in question whose toughness has kept her moving. <"I'm on this. Kiriroth, we are going to get you ready for evac when you are ready.> Something moves on the periphery of her vision and she turns and fires dropping the last of the infantry.

<<"I can still pick up my swords, so I can hit something...just might not be as hard as we're hoping.">> Roth quips after Zee's assessment. But she was bleeding and she knew she needed a bacta nap more than likely. <<I'm going to back you guys till we all need to get out. So don't get all excited to wheel me off the field just yet.>> she chuckles. <<If you can hit me with some of that healing awesomeness I'll be good to go for a few more swings.>> she states. Allowing medical care while they have the lull.

The Kyber Heart makes a second appearance diving down at an angle and leveling out just above the trees. From a distance, if the squad watched, they'd see that the wake of the supersonic craft was bending the trees just after it passed over. The ship's hardpoints adjust, angling down in unison, then release two thick lances of red in quick succession.

Everyone within 12 kilometers can hear the impacts of the cannon fire as it strikes the ground and consumes not only the spec-ops team closing into position on the squad, but the droids too. When the ship angles back up and makes a tight loop, the smoke and dust settle on the ground revealing a few things alive, but unhappy. Two foot-mobile troops, and a war droid.

<<"Dust off called off by request. We'll be on stand by when you need us, Zee.">> Sumi calls, angling the vessel back skyward.

A trio from what were almost ten. The hulking battle droid pushes from soil and glassed sand, smoking and cherry red in places, providing cover for two figures. A cyan skinned amphibian in black plates.

Shaken and disoriented, clinging to a tri-barreled blaster cannon as another in a greatcoat appears at his elbow, a modified carbine blaster clutched in his fist - none of them able to take aim, let alone press firing studs... Sitting ducks for now.

Lozen winded, and finding that her modded armor chafs in places made sensitive by hormones Lozen's thirst for battle has waned and she shoves her axe back in it's catch-sheath and draws her blaster, firing a number of shots in a tight cluster at the special opps <<The fat lady is falling back, available for cover as needed.>> she reports wearily. The sentient that came under fire from Lozen is driven back by a shot to the leg, twisting his body to expose the opposite arm, and then a shot to that side's leg - sending the poor amphibian to the ground, still and no longer breathing.

Out of the group advancing on them as they wait for their Alor and Lady Fae, Ca'tra takes aim at the one with commander's insignia. He is thrown back for a moment when hit in the left arm but continues to advance on their group.

<<Thank you.>> Roth tells Ca'tra and then she's also going to take a swipe at the Commander and his nice coat. Because those were cool. She misses a few of the swings, but the last one manages to bit deep into the man's right leg.

Cut and shot, the field commander finds himself locked in combat with the sword swinging Mando. Pistol dropped and a long combat blade pulled to try and parry. Forced back, despite the swings he makes - trying to cut through Roth's armor plating sparks shooting up.

The war droid opens fire, repeater cannon belching fire that cuts across the ground, stitching around Lozen, surrounding her in minute craters that thankfully don't find a place to properly strike her.

Lozen pauses and sees Roth attacking a hostile-at close range nevertheless. She pauses in her retreat and fires at the field commander before the woman undoes all that quality healing.

Battle armor shredding on his body the Commander keeps coming straight on. Ca'tra peppers shots in his direction hitting him solidly once. The field commander's arm is blown from his body, spraying ichor as he falls back, making a high pitched keening sound... It's almost adorable for the way it sounds as the amphibian sentient hits the ground and moves no more.

Roth gives a look to the arm that came off of the commander and there's a bit of a squint to the other area where she de-armed someone. So two notes are made. She then turns to look at what else is up. Oh...a war droid. "Well...lets see how your doing." she states as she rushes the thing. Apparently she's just going to go until everything is dead except for family. She whacks the droid solidly, but doesn't get much damage, she side steps to give a clear shot to the shooters.

The droid is made for ranged combat, and it's targeting systems are unable to keep up, let alone, parry -all- of the attacks that rain down on it, forcing it to stumble back, one arm up to try and ward off further blows while it's shots pepper all around the mando, some even ricocheting from expertly crafting armor, indeed left open for attack.

Lozen's arm swings and her aim adjusts, weapon not having lowered from last attack. She focuses on what looks like is MAYBE an important bit of droid business and fires. She ejects the spent charge pack and slams in a new one.

Hunkered down behind the torso of a dead droid, Ca'tra uses the carapace to balance her blaster. Through the smoke the mechanical clank of an approaching droid can be heard, her HUD picks it up before she can see it with unaided vision. Taking careful aim she squeezes off three shots in succession making it spin first to the left then to right to end its dance in death.

Roth was about to swing with the Vibrosword's again, but, she doesn't need to. She releases her grip a little and leans on them a bit, "Looks like everything is dead." she tells everyone else. But, the Arkanian walks over to the droid and manages to pull it's mangled arm off. She sheathes her swords and then picks the arm up and slings it over her shoulder as she whistles and heads toward their pick up point.

Lozen follows Roth and gestures, "You and I should spar with the dagger, eh? I need to stay in shape. I am started to get winded." but NOT, as Hadrix likes to say, waddling. There is no waddle!

<<"Coming in for dust off now. I've marked the LZ for your HUDs. Move quick. We won't get a large window of opportunity for it again.">> The Kyber Heart emerges from the sky once more and angles down toward the field. Instead of subsonic speeds though, the craft's repulsors fire, emitting thick foggy spouts of steam to slow and come to a hover. The ramp comes down and the blonde haired Hapan, Fae, steps into view hugging the strut of the ramp and holding a weapon in one hand. She doesn't say anything because her voice would be lost to the roar of the engines.

She wears beskar'gam similar to Sumi's, but black plated and absent a helmet. This beautiful Hapan face was too perfect to enclose within the intimidating T-faced dome of a Mandalorian helmet. Fae motions for everyone to board while Sumi remains in the cockpit at the seat. She flips a few switches and glances down at the caped blonde standing below the cockpit.
