The Inevitable Beginning

Daughter and first child to General Kodachi Jaivon of the Rebel Army and Captain Jericho Artoris of the Rebel Air Force, Valeska was born into war on an New Republic capital ship. She grew up among the motley crew of all races who had banded together to fight against the oppression and terror of the Empire. Though the Empire had fallen by the time she was born, the years following saw many battles and skirmishes to free several planets from its rule. Because of this, Valeska saw victory and death in abundance from a young age. She also witnessed the coming-together of several races fighting for a common goal.

When from the ashes of the Empire rose the First Order, it was expected of her to pick up where her parents had left off. When the Resistance stood against a new threat, Valeska was called to join the efforts and bring years of training and education to bear. Instead, she denied the calling and left Dantooine to become a gun-for-hire. That worked out for her for several years..

A Job Gone Horribly Wrong

Valeska and her two partners Dax and Tarsk had taken on what seemed to be a pretty straight-forward contract: an escort job that would see a small, unassuming shipment from point A to point B. The time limit was restrictive to say the least, and there was little time for details to be discussed. Tarsk, a Bothan with a mind for numbers, had wanted to thoroughly look over the contact first. Dax urged there wasn’t time and that the payment being offered was too good to pass up. He was right. It was a ridiculous amount that would upgrade nearly every system on the Naga and then some.

All three of them were more than capable to handle the job and had been working together as a unit for over a year. Seeing the cargo, it was rather small. Just a couple of armoured crates in the middle of an otherwise empty bay. Assured that nothing… sentient… was being shipped, the three took the job and set off: a no-stops trip to the drop off planet Umbara. That’s where it all went to hell.

They were met at the spaceport not by any employer but by a group of pirates waiting in ambush. Outnumbered and pinned down, the trio fought back the best they could, but when Tarsk fell the battle turned quickly. Dax was fatally injured soon after. Valeska ran to him, but it was already too late. Badly injured herself and suffering the loss of her friends, Valeska was forced to flee into the wilds of Umbara; managing to lose her pursuers. Daring to return to the starport hours later, everything was gone. No ship. No cargo. No pirates. No bodies.

A Chance Meeting

Beaten, exhausted, and dazed, Valeska was taken onto a dark ship. A figure she could not see spoke in a low, hushed tone: berating her for loss of his shipment and foisting the failure of the mission onto her. She was stripped of her armour and weapons before being dropped unceremoniously onto the smuggler’s moon Nar Shaddaa.

Wandering the haphazard streets of Nar, Valeska’s luck went from bad to worse. She had been followed by the pirates she had escaped, and they pulled her into a dark alley to finish what they had started on Umbara. They very nearly succeeded when a man in Mandalorian armour intervened. The resulting battle was brief but violent. Two of the pirates were dead in seconds. The remaining four fled. The alley fell silent in the aftermath and a nearly dead Valeska was left with the mysterious man.

His name was Hadrix Kora, a Mandalorian of the Clan Kora. He tended to her quickly, got her out of the alley, and fed her noodles. From this encounter, Valeska met several other members of the Koras including Avery, Hahtavi, and their frightening leader Sumi Kora. They took Valeska under their protection while she found her footing and began piecing together what had happened. An alliance was formed and Valeska found herself not just grateful to the clan but befriending them.

Forged in Fire

Seeing promise in the young mercenary, the Kora Clan gave her some regular armour and suggested she go with them to Mandalore on several upcoming missions. She was hesitant at first; not seeing how she could possibly provide any help to a tight-knit clan of notable warriors. Ultimately, the bond was strong and -- feeling truly indebted -- she relented, agreeing to go as an extra gun and ally.

To say Mandalore was a crucible would be an understatement. Unrelentingly harsh and dangerous, the ravaged planet showed no mercy. From roving bands of savage barbarians to blistering heat and sand, it was unlike anything Valeska had experienced before. It turned into a few weeks of pure, unadulterated hell that pushed her well beyond her limits.

Coming out the other side a different woman than who had entered, Valeska returned to Nar Shaddaa with those whom she had bonded further with through battle, blood, loss, and victory. It was there at the Kora Clan hangar where Valeska made the decision to take up the mantle and dedicate herself to the Resol'nare. Gifted a set of Doomseeker armour painted predominantly red to represent defiance, Valeska was named a tal'at'cuyir – a “Blood to Be” -- of Clan Kora.

In that moment, Valeska ceased to be simply a listless mercenary from Dantooine and became a Mandalorian.

Valeska continued to fight and grow alongside the Kora, earning her stripes as a clan member and Mandalorian through the missions endured, blood spilled, and lessons learned. It all came to a head when, while on a mission on Mandalore, Valeska was separated from her clanmates and attacked by a brutal warrior of the sands. Alone, she fought her adversary to the last; ultimately coming out triumphant in slaying her attacker and taking for herself the notorious Journeyman armour the man had been wearing.

It wasn't long after this that she was flown to the Kora Clan's base on Ealor and a vote was held whether or not to make her a full member. With all in attendance offering their vouches, Valeska swore her life to the clan and accepted the name Valeska Kora; the sigil of the Kora Clan branded atop the glove of her weapon-wielding right hand. Log: "Welcome Home"

Shadows of the Past

Mandoval2.png

Over the next several months, Valeska ventured on many missions to Mandalore as well as other operations that saw them attacking pirate ships, covertly aiding the New Republic efforts on Corellia, and enduring intense combat training in harsh environments like the hostile jungle swamps of Dxun. The ghosts of her past began to fade into memory, and she was on a road to stability and purpose with her new-found family.

Reality smacked her in the face when a coordinated attack was launched against her and several members of the Koras. Spanning several planets and all happening simultaneously. Everyone made it out with their lives and the intel gathered in the aftermath gave them more details on what group was behind the annihilation of Valeska’s former crew and who continue to hunt her and her clan.

A shadow organization based out of Umbara, this group calls themselves Blackout and is lead by someone known only as Maestro. Information on the group as a whole is difficult to come by even with the extensive database from the Bounty Hunter’s Guild, but whoever they are, they appear confident in their ability to take on the Mandalorian clan. Their motivations are unknown, but it doesn’t matter. They’ve kicked the nest and the hornets will come to greet them.

Relationships

Coloval1.jpg
Colo Nell Husband - An incorrigible gambler from Corellia with a sharp wit, Valeska met Colo by happenstance at one of the many seedy bars on Nar Shaddaa. From there, the man showed both a lapse in sanity and impressive bravado in pursuing and ultimately winning Valeska's heart. As unlikely a pair as you'll ever meet, Colo eventually took the Creed himself and joined the Kora at her side. After the victory in the Bloodfields of Mandalore, Colo and Valeska married by Mandalorian oath.
Sumival.jpg
Sumi Kora Alor - At first Valeska was quite nervous around the enigmatic Kora clan leader. Over time, she later found out she was absolutely correct in that gut feeling. Sumi is a powerhouse: a frightening warrior in combat but also quite chill and laidback outside of it. It wasn’t long before Sumi earned Valeska’s respect and admiration where so many other leaders had failed.
Hadrixval.png
Hadrix Kora Al’Verde - The first face she saw when her life did a hard reset was the T-visor of this intimidating Mandalorian. He saved her life and from that singular moment, everything changed for Valeska. Originally frightened of him, the more she learns of him the more she admires all he's been through and tries to achieve. Her sponsor to the Kora Clan, Valeska counts Hadrix as a close friend, cherished mentor, and older brother.
Averyval.jpg
Avery Ihala Kora Clanmate - The second member of the Kora Clan Valeska met that fateful night, Avery offered her haven in the crew quarters of his ship: a safe place for her to go when she had literally nowhere else. That was the beginning of their relationship and they had a good run. In the end, their relationship didn't work out. The two parted ways romantically, yet Valeska still values him as a friend and clanmate.
Hahtavival.jpg
Hahtavi Kora Clanmate - Born on Mandalore, Hahtavi is a bit gruff and fully dedicated to reclaiming his homeworld from the brutal, violent clans that ravage it. He an impressive fighter and a stellar pilot, but also has a bit of a quick temper and a Ragelands mentality that often clashes with several aruetiise, or “outsiders.”
Amberval.jpeg
Ambrosia Greystorm Godmother- As Valeska's best/worst/only godmother, Ambrosia has always been like a phantom in Valeska's life. Formerly the XO under her mother and now a General in her own right, Ambrosia is the crazy aunt that you see on random holidays who brings you a vibroblade and a wooden toy because she has no idea how old you are. She's the best.
Jaxval.jpg
Jax Greystorm Cousin - Family in all ways but blood, Jax and his siblings are as close to cousins as Valeska has. Being roughly the same age, Valeska has the fond memories of Jax, but lost touch with him for several years. Always a bit of a wild child like her, it wasn't until they reunited that Valeska discovered he was a Jedi Knight... and that Jedis exist at all. A surprise to say the least.

NPCs

Kodachi.jpg
Kodachi Jaivon Mother - Retired General of the Rebel Army, Kodachi is as strict with her family as she was with her troops. She did her best to instill not just battle prowess but a sense of duty, honour, and responsibility into her children to varying degress of success. She now works as a military advisor to Dantooine's planetary defense.
Jericho.jpg
Jericho Artoris Father - Now a retired Captain of the Rebel Air Force, Jericho spends his days repairing, restoring, and racing speeders from his shop on Dantooine. Still the hot-dogging pilot he was in his youth, Jerichho is warm and approachable. A skilled pilot, he likes to find any reason to take to the skies. Valeska likes to think a lot of her rebellious streak is a direct product of her father.
Olegval.jpg
Oleg Jaivon-Artoris Brother - Valeska's younger brother and a consistent pain in her arse. Equally as arrogant as her but not much of a risk-taker, Oleg and Valeska never saw eye-to-eye. That only worsened as they got older. He has remained on Dantooine to help their father with his speeder business and has made no secret of how much he disapproves of his sister's decision to leave the family behind.
Daxval.jpg
Dax Vinclev Former Partner - A stellar pilot and man of questionable morals, Dax was Valeska's friend, business partner, and lover. The two brought the best and worst out of each other in the most self-destructive ways and enjoyed every moment of it. Thought killed when their freighter was attacked by a mysterious group on Umbara, Dax was revealed to be alive and a prisoner of Blackout.
Tarskval.jpg
Tarsk Grun'qur Former Partner (deceased) - The brains of Valeska's former crew, Tarsk was a numbers-minded Bothan who kept their budding transport company in the black. A keen mind for business, Tarsk used his high intelligence to balance the books and also do some lucrative gambling on the side. He, too, was killed during the Umbara attack.
