Even in the age of blasters, the weapons collectively known as combat swords are still found throughout the galaxy. Though the details differ between cultures and engineers, the basic construction is the same: a one-handed weapon with a generally cruciform hilt, and a single- or double-edged blade made from durasteel or some similarly durable material.
These blades are always honed to a razor's edge, though they are not as damaging in battle as the ultrasonically-augmented blades of vibroweapons. Nevertheless, they do not require power to be effective, nore are they affected by any technology that might preclude the use of powered blades.
Combat swords can be ornamental, gilt with precious metals and decorated with jewels and wrapped with exotic hides, but far more often they are plain, no-nonsense affairs meant to end lives in close quarters where blasters are impossible or impractical to use.
