Ealor's Dark Secret

OOC Date: January 10, 2020
Location: Ealor, Bysis System
Participants: Clan Kora, Lando Calrissian, Zee'Roh Kora, Hadrix Kora, Ca'tra Kora, Tara Sur, Sumi Kora

This gig was an open contract to any mercenary or two-bit gunslinger in the galaxy that wanted to hunt down some no-good cannibal cultist hiding in the mountains of Ealor. Ealor is a frontier world untouched by modernization but scarred with the ruins of ancient life now overgrown with forests. From space, it is a beautiful world of green and blue, on the surface it has a moderate climate and is fairly comfortable all year round.

The team today has assembled upon a beach just outside their ships. Sumi Kora is waiting for them with a holo-map projected from her gauntlet showing their position. To their north is a looming mountain. At the foot of the mountain is a thick forest. The sounds of nature are all around them. Sumi glances up. <<"Give me a com-check on all.">> She says, her tone raspy and low.

<<"Tara reads, five by five.">> The chiss hunter is loaded for wampa today. Not only is a heavy rifle slung across her back, a force pike is maglocked to her backplate on one side of the jetpack in addition to her typical gear. Cannibals? No point in mercy here. <<"Ready for HUD sync.">>

As per usualy, Zee releases Zero from the brackets on her back to strenthen comms signals and provide arial tactical data Zee sends across the net. <<"Zee'Roh, checking in with HUD uplink ready on me.">>

Fussing with her med kit, Ca'tra is crouched near the bag on the other side of the clearing. Her black helmet, rounded with the characteristic visor of Mandalorian Skyrippers comes up and she looks in their Alor's direction. <<Roger that, alor>> she replies then twitches her short cape back to finish rearranging her bag to her satisfaction.

Oh, hey; Lando's here, too. Why is Lando here? Because Lando invited himself, of course.

Swaggering down the ramp of the Lady Luck, the scoundrel makes his way over to the group of Mandalorians with a wide grin, ready to do some work for the good of the Galaxy!

His cape swishes softly against him in the sea-breeze, and he lifts his wrist-mounted comm to his mouth and says, <<Loud and clear, everybody.>>

He may not have the missile launcher but his grenades are stocked and he is prepped for immolation. Hadrix's rumble comes over comms... with what sounds like easy listening in the background <<"Ni-... Hadrix. Comms read. Zee'Roh, I am deploying Gripper for sync relay.">> as he walks the black saucer shape of his ID10 drops off of his pack, engaging flight mode as she unfurls her claws and eyes are extended.

<<"Gripper online, Zee'Roh - I hope you've brought my better half with?">> <<"I thought I was your better half">> <<"No you're my longsuffering half, Zero is my better half.">> <<"At least we acknowledge I'm the longsuffering one. It's good to have you, General Calrissian.">> It's a sea of heavy aristocratic Coruscant accent. Stone on stone versus sultry noblewoman.

<"Good copy on all, let's circle up."> Sumi says, lifting her arm to make the holo-projection take center stage. Like Lando, Sumi is wearing a cape of her own. Its design is flame retardant, shaded to be darker than the blue plating of her beskar'gam. <"We're heading north toward the foot of this mountain. Lady Fae says that scans from this mountain in particular reveal caverns deep inside. It just happened that while flying to our Lost Haven, she spotted some ships landing there and took an opportunity to scout. Now.. she's missing, though I think that was her purpose."> It isn't clear what Sumi means by that until she shows the group the flashing yellow dot on the map. Fae marked herself with a beacon.

<"The Hapan is clever, but this kind of sacrifice was not needed, and it puts us on a time table to get her out. We'll need to proceed on foot. So grab your gear, and lock your ships up. I don't think Fae will last long in these conditions. She has a thing about washing her hair."> Sumi cut the image and jutted her hip slightly, revealing a bit more personality than her armor might convey.

<"Our goal, obviously, is to get our own back. Secondly, we're going to rekk these idiots up and burn down their whole goddamn set up. I suspect that once we get under ground, the droids.."> She gestures up. <"Won't be much help unless they're maintaining sector security. Comms might get wonky below as well, so test your optics here, and bring something for close quarters. It might get sexy tonight."> Sumi glanced at her wrist then nods. <"Five minutes to prep, then Hadrix is leading us out.">

Tara joins the huddle, memorizing the projection. The quip about Lady Fae and hair washing gets a brief smile inside her helmet, but kidnapped vod is serious business. <"Teach them not to mess with Mandalorians."> Armored knuckles meet open palm. <"I'll tell Kate to keep an eye on things up here with the ship's sensors. If stuff does go wrong up here, a ship grade comm transmitter should be able to punch a beacon through to us even if we're underground."> Briefing over, time for the ritual of gear checks.

Zero makes a few beeps, which in no way indicates he cannot speak because he absolutely can... Those beeps are confirmation of Sync with Gripper and done deliberately to mess with Zee who has to read the translation on her HUDs, <<"Copy that, Alor.">> Checking her weapon laid across her chest, pulling back the receiver, helmet tilt, and then released to nestle it comfortably against her thick armored plates.

<<"Yeah. She showers twice as much because I don't.">> Said with a snorting chuckle, <<"You heard the Lady, Zero.. you're on security detail.">> Stepping up beside Tara to lean in and bump her armored shoulder against the Mandalorian from Clan Sur. <"Zero will be sync'd up with the Supernova's comms, he'll be able to burst a signal through if need be, but I'm uploading deep scans... at least as deeps as I can get.. of the cave networks.">

Helmets have the good grace of hiding one's reaction and the doctor uses it to her advantage. From the exterior anyone not doing their last minute prep would have seen a brief shake of her helmeted head and an unnecessary abrupt adjustment to the medical bag over her shoulder. Under the smooth surface of visor, her eyes narrow in an odd amalgam of anger and concern. After copying the map to her HUD, <<We'll get her out and leave the rest in a heap at the door.">>

"Sweep in, save a lady," Lando says, shrugging softly as he clicks a button on his wristcomm and engages the security on the Lady Luck. "My /specialty/," he concludes with a smirk before he's reaching into his belly holster and sliding the pearl-gripped X-8 Night Sniper from within. The Socorran flashes a wink to Hadrix and says, "It's great to be here, kid. Wouldn't miss it. A chance to...knock the cobwebs off."

The T-Visor of Hadrix's helmet turns towards Lando's comment - he doesn't comment on kid. He is a kid to this man. The big man goes so far as to try to shake the legend's hand, palm to wrist in proper Mando style before he is checking his weapons. Gripper does her level best to monitor the man's comms, keep them from picking up speech as battle mantras are spoken over his weapons, chants from his childhood to assure weapons were ready, intermixed with others that cause mnemonic reactions. Dopamine flooding his system, endorphins. He's about to be in combat. The pleasure centers of his brain are stimulated.

Sometimes old brainwashing is hard to shake.

<<"Five Minutes - Mark. Spearhead, moving out - fast cadence.">> putting action to words as he moves at a trot in the directions indicated on the map, jets of his pack 'coughing' as he primes them, ready to engage.

<"Alright people, we are moving. Hadrix, take us in."> Sumi frees her rifle, stretching the sling of the weapon so that it's held across her torso and supported by her other hand. The pilot flame has not been struck yet, for fear it may give away her position as the star begins to sink behind the row of mountains.

Their trek takes them past the treeline and into the heart of the forest. At first, it takes a while to find a game trail, but when they do, they hoof it. Evening settles and the squad makes it to a steep hill and can see down through the trees where braziers are lit, and dark figures move about. The mouth of the cave is massive, and the air is cooler here. For those who don't wear a helmet.. LANDO, their breath is seen as a subtle fog.

Worded over comms so Sumi's voice can be heard in headsets and no out loud. <<"Fan out, let's see what we're dealing with here.">>

Before they move out, Tara takes the time to pull Zee into a hug and rest her helmet against the other mando's. <"Just hope that Zero and Kate don't end up starting another rebellion or something while we're down there."> She grins, releasing her girlfriend and turning to Lando. <"Never thought I'd actually fight by your side General, but it's an honor.">

And then they're off, Tara's own pack making a somewhat smoother sounding soft hiss and whine, pistols returned to their holsters. As they get close to the target she rests her hands on the grips of her blasters, staying on edge.

Breathing having settled into a nice rhythm, the bump of her bag syncopated with her steps, Ca'tra jogs in the middle of the group. The slow burn of a run has her warmed up by the time they reach the cave. She has had little to say to the others but they know her now, know her silence as contentment at being among them. The HUD overlays what she can see but it keeps the others within sight, their footsteps in the loam outside the cave loud in her augmented hearing. A whispered, <<Roger that>> acknowledges the command.

Before they break apart, Zee reaches up and slaps the side of Tara's helmet affectionately and then steps up just behind Hadrix taking point to provide cover on his left flank. <<"Roger that, Alorir.">> Side glancing Lando, a little turn of her T-Visor, though she doesn't need to move to see 360 around her... at least not with Zero feeding data on their surroundings.

<"Hadrix.. you see those two up there near the Kybers shuttle?"> Short burst comms, slinking a little closer, but her cybernetic eyes are better than any scope. Telescopically zeroing in on the pair, <"Confirmed, two tangos near the Kyber Heart's aux shuttle and those Lady Fae saw in her scouting run."> Blinking through visual fields.

"Save that honor stuff for if I make it out of this in one piece. I got a feelin' I've got some tall tales to live up to," Lando offers back to Tara with a soft chuckle. Honestly, Lando's not dressed for stealth, because of who he is as a person. But, let's be real, it's not like the rest of this little excursion is, either.

<<I've got eyes on a group of folks up ahead. Robes on the lot of 'em, and robes are a tell-tale sign of cultists, in my experience,>> Lando comms, hunching down and pointing in the direction of the suspicious looking folks that are all currently huddled around a brazier.

The last of mnemonic devices come into play, Mando'a flowing past his lips while his eyes move point to point on his HUD. His externals are off, and his comms disengaged - more help from Gripper, to keep his running dialogue to himself. Like a prayer devoted to war itself, as opposed to some paltry god representing it. "Par'te Mando'ade te'haat'kyr kyr'am. Te'Mando'ade nayc'chaab kyr'am, Par'ibac takisit oya'la."

As he trots his systems bracket and zoom on a figure headed for the cavern, blink highlighting and then blinking more commands that Gripper relays via bursts across the net, feeding Hadrix's scan data to the others.

<<"Zee - Reports acknowledgement of figures. Reporting CIS B2 Class Super Battledroid. Hadrix is charging to engage - he will draw focus for primary elements to execute strike maneuvers...">> Within his helm, Hadrix knows Gripper has made the report and his own tactical option, he's airborne, soaring towards the droid, flamer coughing the fourth state of matter, liquid, like the arch of a solar flare - setting alight the ground and cave mouth about it.

Zee shoots, Zee misses.

Moving through the trees to stay in cover, she ducks up against one to take a shot, turns off of it and ducks behind a second for the follow up. It is really tactical, which means it doesn't do shit.

Blaster fire at night can blind even with the HUD's hard adjustment for it. The first two shots were a waste of ammo as the cultist run and scatter. Ca'tra's last shot has some affect even as she dives for cover on the third try. She hits the ground hard knocking the wind out of herself but satisfied with hitting one them solidly.

Tucking behind a rock, Lando watches Hadrix take to the sky and spook a battle droid with liquid fire. It'd be a solid play at psychological warfare, if it wasn't a droid, but that's neither here nor there.

Popping out of his cover, Lando lets three shots loose downrange towards the super battle droid. One strikes it right in the robo-belly, sending it spinning, and the other tears it's leg clean off of its body.

Presented with a large group of soft targets, Tara does what comes naturally. that is, swing the T27 around, flip the fire selector to GR, and pull the trigger. The weapon coughs, and a conc grenade is sent sailing. ...Unfortunately, it overshoots and just raises a cloud of dust further downhill.

Touching down into fire, Hadrix continues forward. Tip of the spear. The gauntlet thrown. He missed, and he's chiding himself. Indigo dyed plates on his chest are stained black as shots rock his shoulder one way, and then slam against his sternum when the disapation mesh does its job. Within his helm he is still speaking aloud to himself "Te'Mando'ade kar'taylir val nu'liser shukalar buruk, a'par buruk'ika val'liser mav'ashie teh chaab," a SPANG sound rings out as the durasteel over his forehead redirects a shot from the forearm blaster, rocking his head back.

"Val payt'oyayc mar'eyir vercopaanir o'r'val ijaat'kyr'am. Val'tion'ad partaylir rejorhaa'ir be'val'mandokar, be'tion?tuur te'ca?nara olaror; val'epan ba'dinuir'an." The shots from Calrissian move it out of his way and Hadrix nods, making note to buy the old man a drink, even as he pulls a sphere from his belt, slamming it against his helm in a long practiced move to activate it, and then pitches it over his shoulder for the cultists as Sumi's flames roar over them in a symphony of Molten starlight and white hot metal cutting the poor sots apart that get in the way.

"Gehat'ike oyacyir'bat. Shi'Mando'ade olaror lo'eyn'gev."

The Battledroid goes down, blasting its wrist laser at the sky when it fell away from Hadrix. THUNK! Hadrix was not in danger thanks to Lando, his hero! The cultists are drawing their weapons and begin closing the distance toward the commotion only to be caught in a sudden surprise flank from the hill to the south. Blaster shots spring from the darkness of the forest as the squad trudges down the hill and fires from behind cover.

At first it appears that the fight is perhaps an even match, then someone is melted by a long strong of green plasma fire. Globs of flesh melt from their bone as they stumble and fall, screaming until their lungs are flash frozen. Sumi can be heard laughing, but that's cut out by the sudden explosion of a fragmentation grenade.

BOOOOOM! The ground shakes with a concussive force, billowing out as black smoke curls and rises. The trees nearest this shake slightly, and branches fall; but nothing as severe as the two who were caught in the blast and blown to bits.

Sumi rises up then and moves forward. <"Push after Hadrix! Move!!"> Her voice is loud over the chaos, but she trudges into the open to follow the brazenly charging Mando who was their pointman.

Cursing the T27's apparently faulty scope, Tara switches back to her pistols. B2's down, that ust leaves four rather unlucky Cultists remaining. The Sentinel roars, followed by the higher pitched shriek of the DL-30 Another cultist goes down from smoking wounds in the thigh and torso, the shot from the DL thudding into the corpse of the B2 and scorching a hood.

Hadrix is sitting in the middle of the cultists, as per usual, and Sumi is rushing off after him, as per usual. So when Zee misses, as per usual, she does what she usually does, and stop being tactical. Stepping out from behind cover to walk forward with her rifle cracking chaotically loud over the open terrain at a cultist, shattering his humorus and dropping him with a chest shot.

So totally inverse relation to amount of tactics to how useful they are.

The knowledge is two-way, Ca'tra knows her aliit's fighting style. The Alor herding the enemy towards Hadrix's fatal perimeter has a sense of deja-vu. Hadrix's familiar overhand throw has her lowering her head and tensing for the concussion of the coming detonation. It doesn't disappoint. Raising her head before the body parts have completed the last dance of their existence she starts to move forward when a stray bolt from one of the fleeing cultist wings her non-dominant arm, just above the wrist. She tongues the coms closed and gasps a moment before, coming back on line. There is nothing to report so she doesn't. From behind the cover of a fallen tree trunk her shots do nothing more than keep the cultists wary of blaster fire.

"What I would've done to have a couple of you cats on Sullust," Lando says, peeking out of cover to check out the remaining opposition. Bolts fly in towards their position, but the damage to his side seems minimal and he pops up to follow after Sumi, the charge order given.

More of the cultists are dropped by the merry band of lorians, but Lando's here to help, after all, so he once more opens fire. Catching another of the cultists in the chest twice, his opponent spins down to the ground, defeated.

Pushing in, trusting his back to the clan and the old General, Hadrix storms the cavern. Storms as if... he was once a trooper trained for such. The multi-hued blast of the flame rifle making his optics change to regular as a super-nova fills the confined space.

Within his helmet his face is a stark relief rictus of absolute joy as a cultist is engulfed in shifting colors, flesh melting and bone burning red hot. He continues forward. A force of nature.

The Cultists are taken by utter tempo alone as Mandos and Lando storm from the darkness of the trees, mopping up those left outside in quick, efficient succession. Sumi pauses outside to set a straggler ablaze who thought to run! He's incapable now, and he stumbles to the ground screaming, the flames literally melting them until death follows.

Sumi turns then, switching the pilot on the flamerifle off and jerking a shotgun free from her side, beneath the confines of her cape. <"I like to keep this handy..."> CHIKK-CHUNNK. <"..for close encounters.">

Inside, Hadrix finds that the cavern is actually a massive encampment with permanent structures. There's several here among the tall bolders. The sound of flowing water can be heard from further in this cavern, and fires burn from braziers and torches. The person he set ablaze ran into the camp, bringing it to life and alerting them that the attackers outside were coming in now. Cultists rush forward with melee weapons and blasters ready to do business!

With the hostiles outside eliminated, Tara moves into the cave and keeps up the barrage of blasterfire. One bolt burns into a cultist's chest, not /quite/ doing enough damage to put him down. <"Oya! Ke nu'jurkadir sha Mando'ade, Shabuir!">

Rushing into the cavern behind the rest of the group, Lando's blaster is held at the ready, his off-hand hanging off to his side as a counter weight as he leans forward to fire his shots. Two more bolts find their homes as they bury themselves into the gut of a Cultist, sending the man sprawling onto the floor. "And here I thought this would be fairly routine!" he shouts, doing his best to tuck back into some cover along the cold stone walls.

Zee is right behind her Clan and Tara, firing after Chiss and putting the injured cultists down. <<"You really picked the wrong Hapan.">> Said over booming externally mounted speakers as they approach beneath a wave of death.

The night flares with the attenuated blaster light as they rush the entrance of the cave in their search for Lady Fae. The extra bright arc of flame to her right tells Ca'tra that Hadrix is on the move. Ineffectual as her blaster fire is she continues to advance forward into the cultist.

<"FAE. ALERT US TO YOUR POSITION IF YOU CAN"> It's not that Hadrix is hollaring so much as his externals have been bite-tabbed to riot/battlefield mode. It's designed to be heard for almost a half kilometer. In here... he's a air raid siren mere meters away. But the externals cannot scrub the pure rage in his voice. The indignance. One of their own in the hands of these things.

The absolute insult.

A cultist caught to close is smashed across the face with the stock of the plasma thrower before the fire mode is set to conical and the robed figure is blown away in parts, whipped away until naught but bone that bursts to slivers remains.

<"Hammer of the Clan... I am the fist that strikes out in our anger. I am the personification of our vengeance. I am the shield against the chaos, Point of the Spear..."> He's chanting again... but Gripper is outside. No one to turn off his speakers for him while he is amped up, the animal at the controls. Vaguely aware of Tara's injury... Then the warning of Sumi's vitals dropping and his teeth almost crack for the tensing of his jaw, nostrils flarig... Target acquired.

The fight inside is going about as well as can be expected. People are screaming, burning alive, and getting shot. Among the chaos of this close quarters battle is Sumi, who attempts to blast a female cultist that charges her and misses. The trade off came when that same woman bludgeoned the Mandalorian across the face, making a distinct THUNK that dropped Sumi to the ground like a sack of fresh picked fruit. She's fallen behind a rock, and the woman stands over her, bringing the same weapon down again to hit her while she's down.

"I'M BACK HERE!" Fae screamed. It's not loud but it's discernable enough over the chaos. Where was 'back here'? She was tied to a table that's stained in blood. In only her under clothing, the Hapan has been made a canvas for the cultists' illustrations, where they've drawn cut marks to divide the woman up to be eaten! She's tied down and struggling.

Meanwhile, the fight wages on in the cave!

Tara winces a bit when Sumi gets smacked, leveling her hand cannon at the cultist about to try to finish her off. This... This will not do. She fires, the Sentinel roars, and the woman's head pops like a ripe meiloorun. Another battle cry sounds, and the chiss drops another cultist to the floor with a well placed shot to the kneecap.

Zee lets the slugthrower drop down on its sling in favor of her heavy blaster. The magnetic lock clanks and the weapon comes free from the seat, firing. Dropping one cultist, but going well wide on another. <<"Fae, you need not worry, there are a bunch of big glory hounds coming to save you.">>

In the lower right hand corner of her readouts on the groups vitals, Ca'tra monitors their wounded. None of them have been hit hard enough to be out of the fight, enough to bring battle rage and dopamine to optimum levels if she reads them right. One moment of inattention and she catches Sumi dropping like a sack of rocks as a cultist stands over her. Forward for Lady Fae or to the side for Sumi? She forges forward, her hope put into the vitals she is reading but distracted enough to miss all her shots.

Noting that Tara's got Sumi's attacker under control, Lando pops back out from his hiding place and fires again, catching an aggressor with another pair of shots, sending them spilling over. The X-8 feels good in his hand, it must be said. It's been a long time since Lando's had much of anything more than a low-powered stand-off with trainer droids. Thank goodness for all of that practice, at least.

Seeing Fae, and ignoring Zee's general nastiness, Hadrix leans forward and his jets ignite, sending him in a truncated spiral over the heads of the enemy, disengaging to land in a form of Mandalorian Roll, vibrosword slicing through bonds before the grip is slapped into Fae's hand. <"After you, Lady Fae."> Hadrix's grin audible as he comes to his feet, drawing his carbine from his hip, his Flamer hanging behind his back on the strap keeping it attached to his webbing.

<<"Fae secured. Prep for exfil.">>

Fae is freed from her binds, and she takes Hadrix's weapon to fight someone rushing behind him. She's struck, but the former noble swordswoman spins, cutting the man's leg clean off with a masterful swing. He screams in agony just before she shoves the sword into his mouth. "That's quite enough of that. Die. Silently." She jerks the weapon free then steps gently back to allow Hadrix to guard her from other attacks. She tests her injured arm, frowning as she sees the blood. "My ship awaits outside. Let us be to it and away from this awful place!" Bare foot, the small Hapan is completely hidden behind the massive armored frame of Hadrix.

Sumi is laid out still, a dead body slumped over her, the contents of the departed woman's head staining her armor.

Two Cultists remain!

Continuing to show an /extreme/ lack of common sense, the cultists decided to attack Fae. This is another thing that Tara cannot let stand. Of the final two one goes down after having a hole big enough to shove a beverage can through blast through his left shoulder, and the other is gutshot. <"I'll cover you guys! Get the wounded out of here, we can fall back and call in an airstrike on this place!">

Zee slides her blaster back into the housing on her right thigh with a audible click of initiated magnetic lock keeping it in place as she jogs towards Sumi laying beneath a cannibal. Both hands grab hold of the dead guy and yank him to the side, grab at the Alorir's wrist, and hoist her up fireman carry style across her shoulders unless she regains consciousness. <<"Hadrix, if there's anything in our way, I need it good and dead.">> Glance at Tara, <"Be careful, stay on our six.">

And the doctor is dead wrong in her assessment of Sumi's wounds. She fires killing one of the cultist then blindly fires twice more, her attention on Sumi in an emergency carry over Zee's back.

With all of the cultists dead on the floor and their Lady retrieved, Lando flicks the safety back on, slides the X-8 into its holster, and clips it into position. "All things considered, this went pretty well, eh?" he asks, his hands held out to his sides.

<<"Acknowledged Ruus'Alor. Clearing path.">> Hadrix acknowledges as he once more takes the front, with Fae tucked behind him, <"Stay on my back, Fae. Whole way"> and he is moving at a trot, carrying Fae if he has to to make sure she is kept in cover by him. Not ready to relax until they're all clear, <"One of our smoother ops, indeed, General... Nice you saw us at our best."> The big man acknowledges as he looms into the clear, his cape having been unhooked from his shoulder pauldrons and provided to Fae to wrap around herself.

It's fire retardant after all.
