A team of rescuers go to the aid of a burning ship.

OOC Date: August 7, 2021
Location: Y'Toub
Participants: Jinx, Sion, Tamsin Cas, Xyomara as Self/GM

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Well, following a distress call, help to the Unsinkable Utapau would certainly not be ill at place. And once the team were to arrive in a conveniently opened hangar bay, they would find a number of doors forced open, just as they are greeted by the standard, emergency broadcast /Attention. Attention. We appear to have run into a problem. Remain calm, stay in your cabins and await further instruction./ on a loop. Perhaps, the broadcast ought to be changed? Maybe someone should slice into the coms.

[ Sion (Si)]

Still locking her helmet in place, Sion Corvara dashes down the ramp of the Svelte-class she'd hitched a ride on. She'd been all the way across the starport when the emergency warning came over METOSP, and only had her Void armor with her because she'd taken it to be cleaned and patched up. Lucky!

There seem to be open doors here in the docking bay. She hurries over to a terminal to try to find a deck plan for the huge vessel. No point running around this place lost as a Chandrilan raker goose in a snowstorm!

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

When you put yourself on the Allcome list, it was true, you never knew what you would hear coming across the comms for medical assistance. Tamsin had been at the clinic when the call came, and she's coordinated as she headed from one district to another. As soon as she hit the Hutt District, she took off at a run, heading for the Provocateur, where whomever could be gathered to answer the distress call were being loaded onto the shuttle. It wasn't a long trip, hopefully, and Tamsin had managed to track down a pilot to take over for her, and as soon as the team was loaded, the shuttle took off, departing the moon's atmosphere to rendezvous with the ship on fire. The spacesuit Tamsin had slipped into was not the most comfortable thing. But then, a doctor who was dead of explosive decompression of the lungs, that was a doctor who helped no one. She'd have to live with it. At least she had all of her equipment with her, at at least as much as she could cram into very bag and pocket she had. She hit the ground running, moving to try to locate the closest entry point for the ship's main decks. This wasn't a military vessel. Passenger liners tended to be idiot proof.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

As the slightly scarred fighter with Republic markings drifts to a halt, the aged P-38 settling to the ground on hydraulics, the cockpit hatch almost immediately pops, followed by a small droid hovering out, her main dome rotating as her optics scan over her surroundings. Seeing Sion go running past, she zooms after her, chirping at her. 'Danger, Danger....' she intones in a recorded male voice as she catches up with the two women, before burbling. "click ee ee beep beep boop, click ee."

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Meanwhile, up in the cockpit, at least, finally a button is pressed. A surprisingly monotone voice arrives "Now, now... where is it..." she stops "Oh. The thing is on. I think I just grew to hate cruise ships. No. No. The map." and then the voice disappears again. Might be worth to check coms. And the nearest entry point? It is still locked, although there appears to be a connection to the cockpit

[ Sion (Si)]

"By the looks of this, there wasn't any planning," Sion mutters, with a glance at the teeny droid. "Nice ship, by the way, but how do you work the controls?"

She blinks as something comes over the com in her helmet, a vaguely familiar, if emotionless, voice. Checking the frequency, she blows on her air-activated mic to reply. "Unknown transmitter, you have help. We're in the main docking bay. Do you copy?"

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

Tamsin, who remained by the doors, as as Sion handled the comms, checked the temperature of the door, eyes staring momentarily through the distance, before she began to work at the locking mechanism, menu to menu as she accessed the, 'I am a paying passenger and I would like to return to my room after stupidly wandering where I was told not to' routine or another. It took a few tries, a bit like the data entry version of the endless autoresponse 'please press 1' system on old holocomm systems, but finally, the light turned from red to green. <"I think we can enter in this way." She did not proceed ahead. The place was probably a maze.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

"beep beep, click boop beep beep boop click ee." the little droid chirps back at Sion in a matter-of-fact tone, adding in a pair of sassy tones. "boop ee *cackle* click ee click click beep beep beep click boop *cackle*." She rotates her dome to look back at Tamsin, then down the corridor. "ee beep boop *cackle* beep ee click, beep, boop beep beep beep. boop click beep *cackle* beep beep boop too ee click click." She drifts in the door as Tamsin opens it, scanning around her as her spidery legs curl up under her, one making a 'this way' wave to Sion.

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Xyomara fowns "I copy." she offers, tapping "Ah. Here it is. A troglodyte designed this system." she muses "Annyways, yes. What is it you require? I am afraid I appear to be the only crew up here." she offers. And Tmsin... is right. The place is a maze without a map, every single corridor likely leading to a casino

[ Sion (Si)]

"I'll readily concede that, if you can find a way through this anthill of a ship," Sion replies, switching her helmet to internal air and following along. She nods her thanks to Tamsin, who got the door open.

But, back to the coms. <Do you know if the firefighting systems have been disabled? Also, have you found a deck plan to this thing? We could use one, or at least a route to Engineering or the bridge. Just... anything, really.>

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

Now that they all appeared to be on the same comm channel, and they had a map in hand, Tamsin appeared ready to proceed. A quick check. Yep, still had all her equipment, <"Is the system at least reporting the currently location of the fire, or any of the passengers? The fewer places we need to look the faster we can either get everyone off or extinguish the fire."> She looked to the two who were with her, and the droid, <"It might be easer to extinguish the fire than try to rescue everyone before the ship loses structural integrity."> But she was just here for the medical support.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

Jinx chirps briefly, then switches over to a com signal as she realizes both women with her and whoever is on the other side appears to have a channel open. It takes a moment for her to find it. <"I supposed this will be better than you having to mentally translate into a much more elegant and informative language like Binary. My sensors are designed for more short range work, but I will try to tap into the internal security to get an idea of where the problems are, and perhaps a rough map of the area.> She floats over to a computer terminal on the wall, extending a delicate manipulator that she inserts, starting to try and read into it. <This is an incredibly bloated computer system..."> she blats in disapproval.

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Xyomara sighs "Let's see... fire erupts from engineering compartment five... it should be locked off, so that doesn't work, quickly spreading up, towards cabins 39A, 38B and 40A..." she frowns "Closing in towards the dining room of deck C."she stops "As to the bridge, I think all the doors are open.

[ Sion (Si)]

<"Definitely sounds like the system isn't working,"> Sion says, wincing. <"Can you run a diagnostic? See if it's an authorization issue? If it's been command-disabled, it won't work even if the system senses a fire. Which is totally illegal, but it uses the same interface system as any other ship system, so it's doable. Could be a problem with the dispensers, too..."> She trails off as her mind works through other possible issues, too many to be of any help.

She looks to Tamsin, shaking her head. <"I have a bad feeling we're going to be rescuing people. I hope there are still escape pods available. Or fire extinguishers, at least.">

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

<"Well, we aren't going to rescue anyone just standing here. We should head for the cabins. I've been on enough ships like this to know that when things start to go downhill, they always tell you to return to your cabins and wait for information."> Tamsin was off. They had the deckplan and she was moving along the corridor to get to the closest set of passenger cabins. <"If I can get a list of which passengers go with which cabins, that would be helpful."> It was entirely a positive to have a skilled droid on the team.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

<Who programmed this?!? It's just....no wonder there's a fire, these systems are all budget models from different product lines. Here.> She sends a fairly well designed map of the ship, with blue dots for people and red fill for the fires, then yellow dots for other droids. <Let me see if I can trigger the internal systems, though why they aren't already operating..oh, because the stupid sensors are probably babbling to the wrong subsystem which is speaking Boche instead of proper Binary...>

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Looks like thy system... shows people to rescue in the fire. "What else do you want me to do? Bring you some nerf cream?" she mutters "It is a wonder if you can even find a text box in this system." she mutters, at least pressing something "Although, I think there might be a fallback. Somewhere..." she coughs "Smoke... spreads... found it.. at least the doors to Engie 5 start moving. Hurry!"

[ Sion (Si)]

<"Just tell me where to go, Doc,"> Sion replies, moving to the other side of the corridor and beginning to hit door intercom buttons. If someone's inside, there should at least be a reply.

Times like this, she wishes she could handle computers like the little droid can...

Droids! Of course! <"Jinx, sorry to trouble you with more to do, but could you get some astromechs headed this way? Maybe with some of the portable fire extinguishers? We might need them if this fire's spreading as fast as Nerf Cream says,"> she says, coining a nickname for the person on the other end of the com.

And speaking of which. <"Wait... I heard a cough. Do you have a suit up there? Something with an air supply? Maybe there's one in the emergency locker!">

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

Tamsin's tone was unusually tart, as her voice came across the comms, in the wake of the voice in the command center's comment. <"We're all on the same mission here."> Tamsin continued down along the corridors, <"If the fire is currently contained to compartment five, see if there's a way to seal the area and vent the atmosphere. That might be the fastest way to extinguish the blaze."> <"Here,"> Tamsin headed for the cabins, marking each. She moved swiftly, barely needing to check the map of the red lifeform dots. As each door was wrapped on, she lifted her voice, speaking aloud, "We are evacuating the ship. Move along the corridor back to the main landing deck, there is a ship waiting for you. No questions, no baggage, take yourselves and your companions." Hopefully the rest of the people who had come with them to help with the rescue could guide them from there.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

<Stupid interfaces. In my day, the Imperials at least had uniformity to their computer banks! Sure, it meant you could hack into practically everything the exact same way, but at least they ran the starships on time!> The droid blats to itself as she works, her dome swiveling so her primary optic sensors is pointed towards Sion. <Yes. There are several R2x starship maintenance units available, they should all have fire extinguisher systems standard. I've directed them to assist,a nd trigger the manual overrides on the fire suppression systems, but most of them have already been destroyed in Engi 5. I don't know how long they'll be able to keep the fire in check when they can't get to the core of it.> she responds, letting out a long series of chirps and beeps as she works, her interface system twirling back and forth as she works. <There are still clear paths to the escape pod bay, but you should hurry. The sensor system is not the best and I can't see a lot of the manintenance spaces attached to the engineering bay, so fire may be spreading outside of the main corridors. Person on the bridge, the command escape pod has already been ejected, you will need to depart from the bridge to reach safety.> The little seeker droid unplugs fromt eh system to follow after Sion and Tamsin as they start looking for passengers.

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

There is a small laugh on the other end of the coms "No way. A captain shall never abandon ship before making sure everybody else is safe." she offers, reaching for the mic, getting it workd <<"Attention, passengers. Proceed to the escape pods. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill.">> she offers, coughting "Get to the passengers in the rooms. Some are locked, not sure about elevators, don't worry about me!"

[ Sion (Si)]

<"Every little bit helps, little friend. Just get them here, okay?"> Sion calls to Jinx, pausing to open an emergency locker and pull out a portable fire extinguisher. <"Doc, fire extinguisher in the locker if you need one.">

No replies from the cabins she's been toggling for attention. Which is troubling. <I'm going to try to get these doors open. Not getting any word from inside, and with that fire going on they could be unconscious inside.> She pulls out her multitool, pries off an access panel, and gets to work.

Success! The doors slide open, and she rushes back to the locker for emergency breath masks for an unconscious man and woman in one cabin. "You've got to get to the escape pods! The ship's on fire! Follow the signs!"

And there's still the woman on the bridge to worry about. <Hey, still awake up there? We're getting the passengers out now!>

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

Tamsin did indeed grab an extinguisher, before she looked in when she heard the call from Sion that there were a pair of passengers down. This was not the time for a gentle bedside manner, as Tamsin came into the room, taking a knee long enough to withdraw a stimulant shot from her bag, quickly stabbing a double dose into each of the bodies. "They should be coming around." They'd have a hell of a headache, but that wasn't worse than death. She looked back to see who was behind where she and Sion were crouching. Hopefully, it was one of the other rescuers, "Get them moving." Tamsin got back to her feet, stepping back into the corridor to find the next door that she could feel someone or someone's behind. <"If we don't get these people out of here, and this ship goes, it won't matter. We'll all go down with the ship.">

[ Jinx (jnx)]

Jinx makes a rude tone series ending with a blyat at the end. <If you're the captain of this deathtrap, you deserve to go down with it.> she mutters, then makes a grumbling warble. <No, that's still dumb. Do you have an air filtration mask? Otherwise your inefficient air circulation systems are going to give out and deny oxygen to your brain. That's the stuff that you need to keep your organic brain actually functional. You DO know that, right?> Pause. <RIGHT?!?> Another pause. <....she's already unconscious, isn't she.>

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Xyomara lets out a cough, nodding <<"I understand. But... no certainty. I can't... abandon." she offers, peering at her systems still. Si's door meanwhile... opens up. But then... radio silence. Fire. And two unconcious people in the middle of it

[ Sion (Si)]

<"Hurry, those doors will re-close sometime soon. The override doesn't last long,"> Sion recalls. <Personally, I'm all for /not/ going down with this deathtrap.">

Doc seems to be making good time on getting folks moving. And the radio is curiously silent. <"I think she is, little friend. I'm heading that way!">

At least the way to the bridge is plainly marked. All Sion really has to do is follow the signs. She dashes down a couple corridors, finds the right turbolift, and is on her way to the bridge in moments. <If you can hear me, hang on up there! I'm coming!>

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

With Sion off to assist the hapless Captain, Tamsin, armed with her fire extinguisher was headed down towards the last of the cabins. Not good, as it seemed the fire was spreading faster than they anticipated. Well, she got to work seeming not at all bothered by the danger of it. At least, she cleared the area enough to get the door open, and stepped inside. More fire licked at the vents of the air system, pushing flame and smoke into the room, and Tamsin set to work clearing that as well, before she headed for the two wrooonians who were passed out by their bed. Those would take a bit more work, some painkillers and stimulants, before she could pass them off to be transported. <Ms. Droid.> Tamsin had not gotten Jinx's name, apologies, <"Is your system showing any other passengers in need of rescue?">

[ Jinx (jnx)]

<"It's contraindicated to use turbolifts in a fire emergency you know!"> Jinx chirps authoritatively, before rotating her dome so her main optic is on Tamsin. <"My designation is ID-10-JNX, but you may call me Jinx. And I can monitor the door systems from here and open what you need, captain rescuer person. But hurry, because the door sensors are even dumber than the fire sensors."> She considers, flying over to plug back into the computer network. <There are no passengers detected who are not already enroute to the escape pod section.">

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

The wroonians will provide no problem. The Chiss up the bridge though? Her only answer is a cough. And fire already is starting to envelop the staircase up to the bridge! Time is running out!

[ Sion (Si)]

The turbolift turns out to be down... which is only natural in these circumstances. There's a way to override these things for emergencies, but Sion, not being a professional emergency person, doesn't know them. <So much for the easy way,> she mutters, bringing her fire extinguisher to bear on the patches of flames barring her way to the bridge. She works as fast as she can, but it already feels like this'll be close...

She does make it! Pausing just inside the hatch to make sure everyone else can get there if they're following her, she directs her attention to locating the smoke-filled 'captain' in the smoke-filled room. And keeping the flames back from stairwell and... 'captain'! <"Found her!">

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

<"Thank you, Ms. Jinx. We'd best get the recalcitrant captain and go."> Tamsin moved to follow in Sion's wake, or at least in the last direction she was thought to have gone in, scooping up the fire extinguisher on her way. <"Once we're clear of the ship, my suggestion would be to vent the ship of all oxygen, clear the fire and then pilot the ship down to the landing pad."> If that was easy to do, Tamsin didn't know. She only fixed broken bodies, not burning and broken ships. What she did do, was continue Sion's work in beating back the flames, trying to keep the stairs clear, <"Can you get her out on your own?">

[ Jinx (jnx)]

The droid's interfact system whirls back and forth then stops. <"Oh, that's good. Because remember how I said I couldn't detect everywhere the flame was spreading down the maintenance hatches? I just found out where its spread to. And it's next to the primary fuel tank. So we should leave. Very quickly."> She transmits for all the remaining droids on the ship to abandon ship in an escape pod, triggers the emergency evacuation alarm, then jacks out of the computer link, then flies rapidly back in the direction of the landing bay!

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Xyomara is very much out. And, if one looked at the screens, it would be easy to see there might not be much of a ship left to land. Best hurry and get the blue person down. Some way. Wait. There! Emergency ladder!

[ Sion (Si)]

Not good. That fire's still coming up the stairs. <Doc, do you see a way out of here?> Sion coms, giving the closing fire one last spray of foam, then turning back from the hatch to do some looking herself.

Just in time for the hatch to beep, flash a red warning light, and cycle shut, catching the seat of her suit. /One/ emergency system on this mishmash tub works... and it had to work /now/! <"Well, this is just ducky...">

She looks at the control panel that she can only barely reach... and realizes there's a button she hadn't seen before. She slaps it and is rewarded with an alert buzzer and a whir of machinery. <"Doc, there's an emergency ladder! I'm opening it now!">

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

<Well played,"> said Tamsin to no one, as Jinx was already doing the intelligent thing and getting herself back to safety. As for Tamsin, she gave the stairs a few final shots of the extinguisher before she headed up to the bridge. Clearly, Sion wasn't in a position to get the captain moving. Fireman's carry was a lot more difficult when you didn't have flat surfaces to work with. She headed up the stairs, moving into the bridge, nictitating membranes sliding over her eyes, giving her gaze a slightly opalescent sheen as she navigated the bridge to the downed Chiss. "If this really is her ship, this is a sad state of affairs." But that was something to expound about later, as Tamsin again took a knee, pulling a portable respirator from the bag and pulling it on over Xyomara's nose and mouth. She too got a double shot of stimulant. <"We'll have to carry her down if she doesn't wake on the way."> Tamsin grabbed Xyomara under the arms, dragging her towards the ladder.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

Once at the landing bay, Jinx plugs in again. <"So. I could try to vent spaces to space to try and put out the fire. But I can't detect how many spaces would lose air with the damage. I can try to close bulkheads along the route to the landing bay however."> Her interface spins in place, back and forth. <"Short response: Haste in returning to the landing bay is indicated, because I don't know how long before the ship will explode.">

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Xyomara doesn't wake, unfortunately. But they might get out easily enough, while Xyo... will likely occupy a clinic for some time, what with being stupid. So, she also can't chime in about the deoxygenation scheme

[ Sion (Si)]

<"I don't think it is. Cruise liners usually go for someone personable so they can handle the passengers,> Sion recalls, trying to get her suit free with some careful tugging and pulling. <She's probably another rescuer. And I don't think she's coming around...">

And that hatch is getting noticeably warmer to the touch. Which means Sion needs to go /now/. She abandons the care and just pulls as hard as she can... and she's free! Granted, she's now minus the seat of her suit, but free is free!

She hurries to help the Doc with the Chiss. <"If you can get her on my back, I can climb down with her,"> she says, catching hold of the ladder with one hand and preparing to hold the unconscious blue woman in place with the other. Even if she'd rather be using that hand to cover her pink underpants. <"/No/ laughing...">

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

Move her onto Sion's shoulder? That Tamsin could do. She move to maneuver the not quite corpse, manhandling Xyomara and, once Sion was in place, helping her to get ahold of the body. "I'll go ahead with the fire extinguishers."> Just in case there was fire down there as well. Tamsin would have her hands free to clear a path. She wasted no time moving, as she heard the report from Jinx. It was time to get the heck off of this ship. The faster down the ladder, the quicker to the shuttle and a future much more likely to be inferno free.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

There's a rumble as bulkheads close along the route. Except for the one that sticks, with fire starting to lick out around it. <"Oh. Well. The hydraulics for that one are melted. Did I mention GOING FASTER?!?"> Jinx says over the com. The lights are probably flickering by this point as important parts of engineering are set on fire. <"I don't know how much longer the landing bay force field is going to hold.">

[ Xyomara (Xyo)]

Xyomara just softly groans as her head makes contact with... something and the fire is closing in. She'd possibly argue about the personable thing, though. But nobody is asking the dour chiss about her opinions. And there is a small fire as Tamsin starts getting there, in fact. Time to run!

[ Sion (Si)]

At least the trip's short, if not that comfortable. Sion reaches the bottom of the ladder with Jinx's admonition ringing in her com headset. <"Coming as fast as we can! Should be there in a sec!">

And her legs do their best to keep that promise. She tightens her grip on the Chiss's arms and runs like all Hell is behind her! There's the landing bay now! <"Hope you left power on standby, Doc,"> Sion says as she dashes up the boarding ramp. <"We sure don't have time for a warm-up cycle!">

[ Tamsin Cas (Cas)]

Tamsin, leading the way as she had promised, made short work of the ladder, getting to her feet. She kept one of the extinguishers in reserve, the other at the ready as she headed down the corridor. While she did not stop to extinguish the fire entirely, she did beat it back enough that they could pass through without catching themselves on fire. <"We're almost at the shuttle! Make sure we're prepped for takeoff as soon as we're aboard!"> To Sion, she offered, <"EiGee's a good droid. They know what to do."> The ship would, indeed, be ready for them once they hit the ramp.

[ Jinx (jnx)]

As the two pass her, Jinx disconnects and rapidly hovers over to her cockpit, disappearing inside as she locks into the interface, the cockpit closing as the heavy fighter powers up, then lifts off, its landing gear retracting as it turns towards the landing bay, rocketing clear to make room for the following shuttle as it accelerates away from the stricken liner.
