We'll Take That

OOC Date: September 3rd, 2018
Location: Ord Mantell
Participants: The Resistance: Devii, Nova Korell, and Ektor as GM

The First Order frigate posted to the Bright Jewel system has been drawn hours away by a Blue Squadron diversion. When the Resistance freighter and landing shuttle emerge from hyperspace and enter orbit, the only ships in the landing zone are a handful of Red Squadron X-wings, and a Scurrg-class bomber registering as Green 2. The pirate fortress has seen better days: perimeter lines of turbolaser batteries have been annihilated, as has the central headquarters; while the latter is still vaguely recognizable as a junk castle, gutted by proton bombs, the only structures remaining unblasted amid the carnage are ramshackle warehouses near the landing zone, storehouses for the ill-gotten fruits of piracy. The orders are straight forward: secure the warehouses quickly, and provide security for the teams loading goods into the freighter for evacuation before the First Order frigate Adarga, or its reinforcements returns.

<<Arright, Nerf Herders, your time to shine,>> comes the transmission from Green 2. <<You want any air support, just holler, yeah? Have fun.>>

<<Thank's Green 2, we'll be sure to let you know if we need hellfire from above.>> Answers Devii back as she looks back at the rest of her platoon. "Alright. Nurf Herder Squad will burst through the front entrance because that's what we like to do. We're loud and proud and just don't give a crap. Nexxu Squad you'll make your way around the permiter and find another entrance where you can and come in from there once we stat the assult. We all clear?" The ship should be comming in for a landing and as the LT gets the green light she presses the button and the drop doors open. "Let's go!" And out they moves into the smoldering ashes of the pirate base.

On board the drop-shuttle, Nova Korell checks her weapons one last time. <Copy, Green. We'll see you in the world,> she replies, racking the weapon and standing to adjust the fit of her armor. All the ground work lately has her losing weight.

And within moments, they're on the ground. Nova grabs her weapon and moves to the hatch, covering the disembarking troops 'til they're clear, then moving out to join the tail end of the line. "Going..."

Small arms fire opens up on the shuttle from the moment it lands, fired out of doors and small gaps in the two-story warehouse walls. Ineffective against the heavy plating of the Sentinel-class assault shuttle, the troopers have the bulk of the ship as cover to deploy as they wish while the repeating blaster of the landing craft puts down a high volume of suppressive fire to allow the Resistance squads to get into position.

Devii hops off with Nova making sure the rest of the platoon is able to get out of the shuttle and find some cover before the drop ship speeds away. She survey's the Area from the defelade created by some sort of ship cannons when they blasted through here. "Okay champs. Just on the other side of this next bit of defelade is the entrance. Keep covering fire on those upper gunners while your squad mates move a head to the next bit of cover. Once we get to the door, Nexu will split and head down eithe side to the back and find another way in. Nerf Beta, after Nova and I, got it?" She already has he pistol ready, "Alright Moonbeam. Blast 'em." And then Devii is off towards the next bit of cover just before the entrance.

Nova nods quietly and sets to work, leaning out from her point of cover and firing at the decrepit warehouse's upper windows. "Blasting..." she mutters, for the sake of conversation. "Watch those corners. There'll be plenty of them in there."

The Sentinel-class does its job, as both teams don't come under directed fire from the ground floor of the warehouse. The upper window does spit a blaster bolt at the charging Resistance troopers, scoring only the ground before a blast from Nova's rifle seats into the widow, causing a mortally wounded Arconian to topple out of the window with a trilling scream.

Devii slams up against the first hurdle as the rest of the squad moves up behind her running and dodging scarlet bolts. As the first blood is drawn by Nova and the baddie wilhelms out of the top floor, Devii rises up and lets off her own rounds towards the other window to allow Nova to move up and past her towards the entrance with the rest of the Platoon. The first two bolts blast the side of the warehouse but the third squares it's mark. Once the platoon is up against the entrance, Devii moves up and to them. She motions for Nexxu to split and run the permiter to gain another entrance before placing a breaching charge at the door. It explodes and then she gives the comand to, "Breach, Breach, Breach..." And rublees in with the rest of Nexxu.

Nova makes up the tail again, stacking up at the entrance. When the charge detonates, she lets the squad dash past, leaning around the doorway to cover their advance for the briefest of moments. Then she's off and moving again, taking cover behind a large cargo pallet.

The interior of the ramshackle warehouse is chaotic in the way that a storehouse of arms, munitions, computers, pallets of synthetic marble flooring, and dozens of other types of loot in varying sizes strewn around in whatever open spot is closest. The interior is one cavernous open space, with bare metal grate catwalks lining the perimeter, halfway up the walls, giving the occupants access to the higher windows, and the suspension girders of the loading/unloading hooks and chains. The structure looks to be been built up around the rusted remains of a public transit depot against the back wall, where steps and a decrepit turbolift offer access into a tunnel, below.

Though an exact count is impossible as the firefight erupts in earnest, there are at least a half dozen pirates opening fire on the squad. Ektor summons a Resistance Army Sergeant and it appears in a column of flames.

Devii was one of the first ones in along with a Alpha. They both get peppered by blaster fire moving towards cover. The Mirialan's shoulder twists and she slides into a crate. There's a burning hole there but she'll have to deal with that later. Good thing it wasn't her dominant arm. That one, with the pistol, is still functioning. She finds her target in the rafters and send bolts towards two of them. "Get up top and clear it!" Just as she's giving that order, Nexxu blasts in from the other side creating another front of fire.

<Up there...> Nova murmurs as fire starts coming in. Hearing Devii's order, she dashes for a flight of rickety stairs leading into the warehouse's flyspace.<On it!> It's a long run, and fire peppers the stairway around her, making it shift alarmingly. Nonetheless, she's all but smiling as she pounds up the steps. This is the place she feels most alive, most useful.

She grabs a support post and uses it to make the turn around the top of the flight of stairs, dropping into a crouching position and expertly blasting one of the shooters on this level. <Let me know when the fire starts lessening.>

An Aqualish pirate with a heavy blaster in each hand opens fire on Devii from behind a stack of crates stamped with old Imperial bar codes. Seems no one ever taught him that was a stupid way to fight, as the recoil throws his aim off, and wins a smoldering hole in the head, in return. Nova encounters a human with a blaster rifle at the top of the stairs, but the exchange goes firmly in the Corporal's favor and she gains the catwalk. From there, she can see the surviving 6 pirates taking cover bear the mout of the old depot station, one of whom throws a grenade that gives cruel greeting to Nexu squad. The Devaronian grenadier prepares another.

Devii hudles down as the shout of a grenade comes from Nexxu. THe sharpnel showers everwhere. Nexxu lobs their own back and there's another explosion. It's complete drekin' chaos. Good. Devii glances up and sees the squad lead by Nova making their way to clear the top. She notices the Devaronian preparing another grenade. "Horns, HORNS!" SHe shouts out load and over the comms, taking aim and firing towards the grenadier. Her shots go wide as the innitial shock of her wound is waring off.

"Grenade, get down!" comes the echoes shout from Nexu squad in answer to the warning from Devii and Nova. <Copy that, Moonbeam. We have grenades, but they're putting up heavy blaster fire. Going to throw it in five, if you can get their attention-" As Nexu reports in, and both sides trade ineffective fire, Nova notices something curious: one of the pirates, a grayish Rodian, has set down weapons, and has picked up a plasma torch, moving to hurry down the steps...

A blast smacks meatily into the back of the Rodian with the plasma torch. <Getting their attention shouldn't be a problem, Lead. Just give a shout when you go loud.>

Devii listens over the comms and props herself up and moves up the stairs so she can help the rest of the squad distract the cornered pirates. THe Rodian falls past her as Nova blasts him just before her own blaster raises to pepper fire towards the entrance to the room their cornered in, mostly hitting wall but close enough to keep their heads down instead of firing on Nexxu.

The cross fire from Nurf Herder certainly pulls attention, in addition to sending a Rodian tumbling down into the darkness of the underground, with a now ruined plasma torch. The Nexu grenadier- PVT Ahner'bakvorkin- times the throw perfectly, exposed to counter fire for only an instant, and placing the frag grenade right at the top step, catching a trio of pirates in the blast. Screams raise, briefly, weapons are thrown down and hands are thrown up, as deep underground, an echoing groan rumbles from a great distance away.

"Secure those surrendering!" She announces to her troops and then pauses, turning to hear the goraning sound. "The hell was that?"

<Offhand, I'd say nothing good,> Nova replies, covering the surrendering pirates. She stands up so as to be more visible, her weapon aimed their way. <Now I'm wondering if the guy with the cutter was on his way to let it out...>

Outside, the freighter has landed, its captain inquiring over comms, <Loot Wagon One is on the ground, just send the word when crews can begin loading, Lieutenant Keva.> The Resistance troopers do swiftly step forward to secure the weapons and persons of the surviving trio of pirates, all of whom seem eager to get away from the depot steps that lead down into the darkness.

Devii hisses at her wound as she looks down the dark depths. "Nova, see if you can get a bit of a patch on this... I think it's not as bad as the last one..." She takes a moment, "You think we go down there and take a look before we have them come in or just loot what's in here then have Ektor blast it to slag?" SHe asks the Corperal.

<On my way,> Nova replies, moving to take a better look at Devii's shoulder. Slinging her rifle, she brings out the medpac and gets to work. "Frankly, your guess is as good as mine. Though I'd bring in a lifeform scanner to get some idea of what's down there. If it's big and nasty, I don't think they'd store much down there for fear of it smashing up the good loot."

Devii glances over Nova as she startsto patch up her blaster wound. "I gota stop getting hit like this..." She says with a hiss before hopping on the comms. <<Loot 1... Building secure save fo something big and scarry down the dark stair ways. Got a lifeform scanner on-board we can use? Most of the goodies seem to be up here though."

<Um. ...hang on,> the pilot of the freighter answers. <In close sensor range I read...> all the Resistance troopers, minus the grenade victim from Nexu.. <..One Bith, and two Gran-> the surviving pirates.<And nothing else within a kilometer.>

Nova frowns in concentration, working carefully but surely. "Do we have a casualty count? I know Nexu got hit hard early on."

"They got Waterloo, she was slow to cover." Devii says with a nod. "I think at least half our squad got peppered so did theirs. Check on our two first then get them on security for the rest of the op." <<Roger that Loot 1. Probably shielded from sensors. Let's just get in and get this done then have the flyboys turn this place to dust.>> SHe wasn't going to go down there with half a healthy squad and take on god knows what.

"Will that destroy the space down there?" Nova has to wonder, frowning down the stairwell. "And what's in it? If it's scan-shielded, and holding a huge monster, it might take a lot of punishment to level it."

As the orders to begin hastily loading the supplies are given, and cargo teams with load lifters hustle to work (only urged on to greater haste by the odd subterranean rumble), and as Nova looks down deeper, the nature of the tunnel beneath the warehouse is revealed to be an old underground railway, access to which was closed off by a heavy wall of welded scrap metal at the base of the steps, bolted into place by several scavenged durasteel brackets.

Devii looks to Nova as she over sees the operations, "No, probably not considering..." She says as she gets the telemetry reports as more scans are done with a bit of exploring. "But That's not the point. Exktor brings it down, it ant goingto get out. It can rot down there for all I care. What ever it is..."

Nova shrugs. "If you're sure," she replies, moving to check on another wounded trooper. The irony of doing so much killing moments ago and struggling to save lives now doesn't faze her.
