Hunters Become Hunted

OOC Date: June 07, 2020
Location: Ealor, Bysis System
Participants: Hadrix Kora, Narsai Ordo, Kirioth Kora, Kasia Ashkuri, Kryll Red, Sajin, and Sumi Kora as GM.

Ealor was not a paradise as much as it was a green emerald beauty (as seen from space). A frontier world; as frontier as it got, with air untouched by the stain of industry or the pollution of sentient life. Sure, there were old structures here and there, even a Mando'ade fortress, but for the most part, this world was inhabited by NATURE.

Ealor was not an unknown world, and for that fact, what inhabitants frequented the surface often became the target of hunters far and wide. Just because someone IS a hunter did not mean they were an expert at it, and it's that reason our heroes find themselves here today. A distress call had gone up from an amateur hunting party, the voice in the beacon message frantic as the sounds of loud growling could be heard in the background.

Coordinates placed these crazy hunters in the Reecol Valley, a cold place (not snowy cold, just chilly temps) where the wind often teamed up with the cold rapid waters to make for a peaceful yet dangerous scene. This is where our heroes have decided to meet up and push out in search of this foolhearty hunting group, and the savage Graiveh who have taking to ACTUALLY hunting them.

Of all places not to need his own ship, Hadrix was airborne - a smoke contrail spiraling out behind the Massive Mandalorian as he made for the valley, bow in one hand, retracted into itself as he makes his way across the skies,

<<"Hadrix, nearing beacon coordinates - preparing to deploy ID10 as needed for additional search. Maintaining height until foliage is too dense for scans.">> binocular systems zooming in and out of points as he tries to survey the area.

<<"Search party, sound off it you see anything.">>

Kasia is here for some reason, dressed down for the occasion. Not just in comparison to her usual look, which is far fancier than the warm jacket, trousers and boots she's currently sporting, but also for the lack of armor. She has a bag on one shoulder, and a blaster on each hip, looking ready to go out into the type of environment she likes the least, the not-city kind. "We weren't too far off when the call for people went out, so I decided to come and see if I could help," she says conversationally to some armored person or other, whoever is near enough to hear her. She wraps her scarf around her neck a little more snugly, tucking it into the collar of her jacket to prevent flapping.

Here along with the others, is Kryll. Though, oddly he seems to have arrived in his own ship. Though, it was clear he did not do the flying as he steps down the boarding ramp. <"Yes, you got us here in great time due to your advanced navigational skills. It is clear you are the greater pilot, since I cannot claim to be one. Thank you Six."> he looks about to all the others that might be here, and spotting an incoming airborne projectile he considers if he needs to raise his carbine or not. Turning to Kasia he offers a smile, until he remembers he is fully armored and raises a hand instead in greeting. <"Hello Kasia.">

Roth was over at the compound so that's how she heard about all of this. She's dressed in her all white armor per the usual, standing out against the lush greens of the planet. << I'm a little behind you, Hadrix.>> the Arkanian states over the internal comms as she trudges through the forest towards her clanmate.

A rescue of an amatuer on a planet full of dangerous creatures? This was uncomfortably familier for Narsai. Still, here she was in her deep red armor, moving alongside the team with her carbine against her side. <<"Moving up to your position,">> the Ordo woman speaks over the link, <<"anyone got a visual?">>

Sajin had answered the distress call having been om the Spice Terminus spave station doung... kingly thungs. Having recently recovered from a massive leg wound he opted to carry his heavy gear for this mission. Meeting up wuth the others he hefted hus bowcaster up and at the ready. "I hope its editble what ever it is." His ryyk blade on his back, cape seaying in the light breeze. Such hero much muscle.

There was no need for an immediate visual, because the sounds that followed were distinct. Bloody. Murder. Screaming. A male, by the sounds of it, is screaming for their life from deep in the woods, and it's almost overrun by the sound of the sifting trees as a hard gust of wind blows through this valley.

The direction of the sound seems to originate from the south, into a treeline of tall pine looking trees. It's in that direction that they see the first carrion from the hunting party, or rather, what's left of them. A body in bright orange clothing is in shreds around a furry corpse of a massive... a /massive/ Graiveh (think Lycan from Underworld for comparison.) This Graiveh has a single blast mark on its forehead YET.. its open eyes are still glowing yellow. It tongue hangs from its long snout, life gone, yet its claws and teeth, and everything about it seems absolutely terrifyingly menacing.

Dropping from the sky in a turnover bank to take more of the foliage across his shoulders instead of his face, Hadrix drops through branches and vines with carefully timed bursts from his pack until able to turn and give one last burst to allow him to land with a dull thud rather than some stupid sort of 'hero pose' or other such tosh.

<"These are why I can't take Kar out into the forest."> Not the cannibals. The wolf-people. Looking to the hunter through his visor and then scouting the area with a slow turn of head and body, seeking for tracks or signs of where this thing likely came from.

<"Roth. Rather hunt Wampa right now, too?"> He's twitching though, like a race-animal straining against the starting gate. So long since he saw action... other than sword fights with safety shielding.

Kasia tenses at the sound of someone screaming in the distance, brows furrowing as she looks around at the others in their group before ahead to the carnage at the treeline. "Ah, is-- that's the things hunting out here?" She's rethinking all of her decisions that lead up to her coming here, but she's already here so there's no turning back now. Well, there is, but turning back means heading back probably alone and she's not looking to go anywhere alone on this world. "No one ever tell Hex about the creatures here. He'll want to hunt one." A hand settles on one of the hip-holstered blasters, making her push back her coat and let in chilly air, but really, it's worth being a little chilly if it means she can help kill one of those things faster.

Kryll makes his way over to the others, leaving Six on board his ship. He readies his carbine and hustles over to the others, <"Is Hex a high risk of hunting animals he hears of?" he asks to Kasia, and nods to the others as he falls in with them, following them along on this odd rescue mission. <"Do people often get lost here?">

Roth wanders over to the corpse of the Grav and there's a tilt of her helmed head, << I bet they are beautiful to see if action.>> she states. Then she looks to Hadrix and there's a vocoded chuckle, "Wampa might be a bit preferred for the moment." she admits. "Though we're close enough that if I get hit by these things to hard you can drag my corpse close to the bacta tank and roll me in. Just don't tell Sar I got my ass kicked again." she muses. "He might hear about them through stories and one day we'll walk out and he'll be hiding in the trees or bushes covered in foliage." she seems amused by this.

<"Trees are nice though,"> Narsai muses, perhaps some attempt at humor. Making her way to the clearing, the armored woman is quick to spot the creature and its apparently blaster-resistant hide. What in the hell is that? Whatever it was, it was big, clawed and angry.

Hopefully there was only one!

<<"I can't promise anything Kasia. You know I'm far too honest.">> Sajin states through his helmets vocorder. He had stoped to look over the dead beast, shaking his head. <<"Though I've been working on that some.">> And he had, quite a bit. He scans out around the imediate area, switching between the different visions his HUD provides.

Another scream follows, then there's an abrupt silence.

Just the trees blow, shifting and brustling. That is until something is tossed into the air at the group. It's large, maybe the size of a kick ball, and it lands near Kasia. Another follows, and it lands near Sajin.

It's the severed heads of the LATE hunting party. Before long there's fourteen heads cast from the treeline.

Sensors or advanced optics might pick up the heightened heat signatures of Graiveh as the pack hovers just out of naked sight of our heroes. One howls, and they all howl. It's long, and so loud that the unprotected ear would be left ringing in its wake.

The first of the Graiveh step from the brush and foliage, standing an easy 8 feet in height, its hulking mass is covered in shaggy fur. Massive hands sport claws, and a long snout has shining and pointy teeth. Yellow eyes glare at all of the people assembled, and the lead Graiveh howls again. Ten more emerge from the woodlands, hunching threateningly and preparing to attack.

<"He probably already does that, Roth. I'm sure he's senile."> Hadrix quips back, looking to Sajin and then to Narsai, <"I'll show you the beach l-"> he stops, howling, growling, severed heads flying. The big man looks up at the large figure and there is something electric running through him. One needed be sensitive to the wooje of the force to note the sudden, and extreme, excitement in the man.

<"Normally peaceful..."> left hand up as the bow in hand extends and he nocks an arrow. <"Can't let them rile up the rest, reckon."> Fletching touching the cheek guard of the helmet for a bare instant before it becomes a shooting star; the arrowhead igniting into a blaze of burning tibanna that slams into the leg one of the bests, exploding and taking a hunk of hairy meat with it.

If there's one thing that Kasia didn't expect, it's for Ealor to start raining heads. (Hallelujah?) There's a thud on the ground in front of her, eyes having tracked the projectile the last handful of feet before the thud to the ground, then widen as she realizes what it is that's on the ground in front of her. "I know you can't make any promises," she says in response to Sajin. "But I would appreciate if you try." Especially given further evidence that this world is terrifying. This opinion is only reinforced by the rain of more heads, and then the appearance of hulking creatures far too close for comfort. "Aaaand I think we've found some new friends." She yanks her weapon free of it's holster, readying it for the oncoming attack.

Kryll tilts his head slightly as the creatures appear, <"Well, those are very large and angry creatures."> he aims downrange and opens fire, his E-11 carbine blasting two bolts center mass into one of the angry beasts, knocking it down and out of the fight. Normally he would approach the hostile contacts, but for now, he just makes sure to position himself several steps in front and to the side of Kasia, to offer a priority target to anything coming close, and give her a clear firing line.

Roth's helmed head tracks the movement of the projectile...and it's a head. <<That's not very sanitary...>> she shakes her head. Then she's pulling out the Thunderer to try to make a hole in one, but, it doesn't hit them. She looks at the gun, sighs and then puts it back in it's holster, not today old pal. Then her hands yank the sword from it's sheath, "Alright. Time to get a little dicey." she sighs.

Severed heads flying now. Huh. Hadrix's comment towards her was interupted by a charge of more creatures joining the mix. She just -had- to think about it being alone, didn't she?

A flash of movement and her blaster was from her thigh to her hand, a pair of quick shots dropping one of the snarling creatures that had torn apart the hunting party.

As the beasts chuck heads and launch from the forests, Sajin raises his bowcaster to follow the targets as they come. <<"Here comes the Graiveh! It better be tasty!">> There is a laugh from the King of Drik as the horrid preditors leap forth. He's quick and sharp, having a bead on them. He pulls the trigger, lining up his sight on the pouncing beast. He squeezes the trigger and the loud and powerful Bowcaster rages with red crimson super charged quarrel. It slams into the beast, smoking. <<"It's a Graiveh train! Hahahaha... you're right, Hex would like Graiveh! I'll do my best.">>

The Graiveh were quick, but not the most efficient when it came to combat. Their advantage was in number, and they tended to swarm one target and overwhelm them. Here, against seasoned hunters and or warriors, their primitive style of combat and hunting was showing.

The pack swarms our heroes with no real sign of success despite the immediate chaos. Things are still progressing though, and with it falls a few of the Graiveh. This enrages the others to FIGHT!

A shiver running through him after the arrow explodes that comes out as a vocoded shudder from his externals. He'd only used the practice rounds, real arrows, before now. <"Glorious..."> he blinks, <"HA! Graiveh better be tasty"> The big man is laughing as he draws his next arrow in time to take a hairy backhand across the chest.

No integrity lost, it's the first thing checked when one eye opens and the other pops back online with a whine not unlike an old 2-D still-pic camera flashbulb charging. The flight was tumbling across ground and ended with his back against a tree before he was rolling to his feet and charging. Arrows quivered in his palm, one flicked up to nock and fire as he went.

The beast that slapped him is his focus and when it's jaws open to roar the sound is returned over Hadrix's vocalizer - but the 'SCHUCK!' of the bow string snapping matched to the sudden illumination and detonation of canid head is the culmination of their screaming match - a rain of blood, bone, and brain sent into the air.

The beasts charge and two of them set their sights on Kasia, but she's faster than she looks, able to anticipate attacks quickly enough to not be in the way as those swiping claws sweep down to where she was. She dances back a handful of steps, trying not to trip over any severed heads in the process, then swings up her blaster and takes a shot. The twin blaster bolts hit one of the Graiveh right in the head, wham, dropping it where it stood. "I have no interest in knowing what any of these things taste like," she informs Hadrix. "Are there any more of these things in the trees? Can anyone see?" She doesn't have armor with any special enhancements, she's stuck with her normal human eyes that are generally bad at seeing too far, especially when she's trying not to be tossed around like a beanbag.

Kryll continues to stand his ground, tracking the beasts as they come in at him. Though angry, they are still beasts and he steps out and away from their attacks and then puts a blaster bolt into one's torso, then turns and fires another bolt into the next nearest, putting them both down and out of the fight. He continues to track the beasts and turns his carbine towards the next nearest threat to him and the group. <"Unknown, with the amount of these beasts determine to cause me harm I have not been able to scan the area outside of our engagement sphere.">

<<Ah screw it.>> Roth huffs as she jogs up a little with her sword and sizes one of the Graiveh's up. It's taller than her, that's for sure. Then the alabastrine Mandalorian takes two quick strikes at the one she's facing off with and it falls over dead. <<One more down.>> she tells Hadrix.

The critters were falling (or exploding) fast, but the one Narsai drew a bead on was a stubborn sort! Avoiding swipes from the clawed creature she fired twice, but her shots narrowly miss as the red-armored Ordo was forced to evade getting sliced up!

Sajin jukes out of the way of one of the beasts, turning to fire at it, but it's quick and the only thing his quarrel hits is ground. Dirt flies up and around from the powerful impact, landing in a large area around them. He ducks as another launches at him, flying over his back unable to grab him. <<"Stang! That's some slick Graiveh!">> Alright Sajin, we get it.

The Graiveh can't keep up! More of their numbers fall, and it's becoming clear that they cannot defeat these warriors! Howls of anguish accompany their feverish attempts at harming EVERYONE, but so far to no avail. This would be their final STAND!

Another one down, crossbow bolts, blaster shots, roaring, blood, smoke. Home. <"How in all of Corellia's hells are you not all cut to shavit and bleeding over all of them while you're stabbin' 'em Roth!?"> He's laughing as he talks, another flick of thumb and forefinger brings another arrow into place to fit against the string.

Still moving, the next arrow flies, parting the fur over one massive shoulder, singing it even in passing, only to sail past and blow out a hunk from the bole of one of the massive trees.

There's a little pop of his jets as he moves, carrying him over a body to land on the far side of the clearing.

More and more of the beastly creatures fall, and Kasia is intent to try and help make that happen faster. Unfortunately it's just an evil Ealor tree that takes the brunt of her rage against nature, leaving two charred marks that burrow deep into the bark. Poor tree. Take that, nature. "Are we-- do we want to try and recover anything more than the heads?" she calls out to the others, nearly stepping on one of the heads while putting some space between her and some swiping claws.

The carbine barks out two more shots, the first wounding one of them in its legs, and then the second putting a solid hole in the next beast's torso, putting it down in a smoldering heap. <"These creatures are resiliant, and could easily over run a position in large numbers.">

Roth's swords are at least effective, not so much the blaster, but, that's because she's horrible with them. She takes another swing at the closest Graiveh and there's a grunt as she does. She didn't see Rathe for more healing. <<That tore something.>> she laughs as she rights herself. Stupid wounds.

Sajin swings his Caster around to take another shot at one of the quick beasts, but the quarrel explodes into a tree. There's a loud cracking sound as the large trunk falls over from the impact. <<"No Graiveh!">> He shouts through his vocorder, preparing for another attack from the remaining ones.

The Graiveh are in full retreat now, and what of them remain, flee to the woods YIPPPPPPING and HOWLING in fear and pain. Size wasn't everything, and even though they were imposing, their presence crumbled when someone had a good blaster at their side. What was left was a series of dead, and the severed heads of the HUNTED. It was not a successful mission, but our heroes didn't DIE, and that's good enough for government work.

The rest are fleeing. Chest heaving as he gets himself under control, Hadrix turns to where the one survivor still lays, snarling, <"Next time you want to hunt - hunt on some soft world like Chad or Naboo..."> rumbling as he retracts his bow, hanging it from his hip and moving to hook catch-lines to some of the creatures.

<"Narsai... fancy a new cloak?"> the grin in his voice, the absolute elation from being in combat - and having a new project to work on. Fur for himself though? No need, nexu fur mantle and black cape apparently good enough for him.

But a rug...

There's a beasty retreat, and Kasia lets out a quiet sigh. "So, since we're not going to recover what's left of the hunting group, I think we probably ought to get out of here," she suggests. "Because they're running now, but I'm not looking to wait around and see how many of their friends they come back with." She glances up at Hadrix at his snarl, brows furrowing slightly. "Right." The blaster is shoved into its holster before she backs away a couple of steps, then turns with the intent to retreat with whoever else does.

It was a shame the hunters were far past rescue, bad luck or bad assessment of their abilities meaning the Mando's had turned up too late. Still, Narsai holsters her blaster and exhales a breath, Hadrix's comment bringing a soft chuckle despite the violence.

"I think some of them are well past 'cloak' thanks to that bow!" The Ordo gives a little shrug of her shoulders before looking back to the others. "Still..."

Sajin starts to rummage through the carcasses, seeing whats viable or nit.
