Zacara Saronno

Born on Espirion, in the Alderaan system, Zacara Saronno isn't your typical Alderaanian. She doesn't belong to a noble house or dress in fancy gowns drinking pink champagne with her aunts and uncles at the family estate up on a hill. She's an Alder-Espirion, that is, half Alderaanian, half Espirion. Human in appearance, with red skin and green sclera where the white is in humans' eyes, she fits on Espirion, but would have stood out on Alderaan. That said, Alder-Espirions still participate in Alderaanian culture and she is loyal to the noble houses that rule from New Alderaan.

Having attended Espirion Capitol Flight Academy after standard academy, Zacara found a thrill in flying interceptors, eventually signing up with Valkyrie Squadron, a civilian squadron based out of Coruscant. The young pilot made a career for herself in an RZ-1 A-Wing protecting VIPs and commercial escorts as Valkyrie II, until a mission-gone-bad wherein she had to make a tough call, which drove her in to a pit of grief, guilt and self-loathing. Feeling unworthy, Zaca hung up her flight helm and fell in to a trap many young pilots easily slip in to: smuggling.

The law eventually caught up to her, and a simple job on Canto Bight landed her in jail for seven years. Now a free woman once again, Zacara looks to redeem herself and prove to herself more than anyone else that she can be the person she once was: an adrenaline junkie interceptor pilot fighting for the greater good.

Ships

Name Model Description
Aldera 05 RZ-2 A-Wing While belonging to Aldera Squadron, Zacara is the interceptor's pilot. Aldera 05 is used for all of her deployments with Aldera Squadron. Typically utilized as a scout, Aldera 05 tends to advance forward of the rest of the squadron to find objectives, identify hostile activity and serve as interceptor duties during combat engagements.
Starblossom YT-2400 Trying to turn her life around and get out of the smuggling business, Starblossom was purchased after undergoing extensive aftermarket modifications. Registered officially so as to be completely on the up-and-up, Starblossom serves as Zacara's primary source of income - though a combat-oriented pilot such as herself would never stand for a freighter without teeth, of which the Starblossom has many.
Stormcaller RZ-1 A-Wing Serving as her own personal interceptor, Stormcaller functions as Zacara's ship of choice for all non-Aldera Squadron related engagements. The very same RZ-1 that she flew with Valkyrie Squadron, this decommissioned ship has spent more than thirty years in the civilian sector. It had been purchased as part of a bulk package by Valkyrie Squadron, but as Valkyrie Squadron upgraded to newer models, Zacara was able to purchase the A-Wing that she used as Valkyrie 02 from the company before it could be sold off to another company.

Accomplices

Name Relation
Aconaa An occasional partner-in-crime. When Zaca needs an extra pair of hands for a morally shady job, Aconaa's the first one called.
Aryn Cortess Zacara and Aryn haven't interacted much in-person, but Aryn has her loyalty. Aryn's saved her six a few times during dogfights so she's pretty sure Aryn thinks she's good people.
Bors Thul Squad Leader and superior officer. He speaks all fancy and she sometimes has a hard time figuring out what he's actually saying, but he gave her a chance when she wanted to turn her life around, and overlooks some of her uncertain choices.
Ejnar Celchu Zaca thinks of Ejnar as her wingmate. He often covers her while she pulls (oftentimes needlessly) stunts during missions, and she finds it easy to fly in unison with him. They make a good team.
Pyretta Blaze She lays it on pretty thick sometimes, but she's fun to be around and great for times when you just want to let loose and not worry about the galaxy. Good for makeup advice, too.
Saturi A shady employer that doesn't reveal much about herself, all that Zacara knows about Saturi is when she needs a job done it'll pay well and it won't come with many catches.
Shemar Eisley Another good one to call when you need a pair of hands for a job. He's easy going and doesn't ask needless questions.

Physical Description

A human with a striking appearance for her race, it isn't the red skin that stands out so much as the sclera of her eyes. Where most races have white sclera, this woman's sclera are green with yellow irises contained within them. Aside from this coloration, her red skintone is complimented with pink hair, the flush tone of her roots suggesting that it's not been colored or dyed. An average sized human, she would otherwise fit in with a crowd of humans. Her face is usually made up with darker red as well as some black, just enough to accentuate her long lashes, soft, rounded jaw and plump cheeks. A black onyx nose stud pierces her right nostril and small silver danglies hang from either ear in the shape of crescent moons. Carrying herself with a typical feminine walk, she tends to resemble a normal human for the most part.

Her bold pink hair is deceptive in its length as it's been tied up in two muffin-sized hair buns on top of and near the back of her head. Below these two buns, which could give her an extra two inches of height if measured that way, braids run vertically down the back of her head to the bottom of her hairline so that no hair is touching her shoulders. Her fringe is pulled back, revealing her full forehead and the sides of her hair hangs around her ears, near her cheeks, running flush with the back hairline without touching either shoulder.

The woman's final feature are the tattoos she displays, the largest of which is a large emblem of a golden Valkyrie in flight covering her left bicep with a numeral 'II' below it, denoting something of meaning to go along with the image. On the forearm of that same arm is a small constellation pattern, whichever system it depicts having not been noted as such in Aurabesh. On the other arm, an A-Wing is depicted opening fire as it flies in to the maw of an enormous asteroid dweller of some kind.

Vakyrie Squadron

Valkyrie Squadron

Applying for Valkyrie Squadron straight out of flight school, Zacara was accepted and placed in the reserves, where she trained in simulators with other reservists, eventually discovering a penchant for specializing in interceptors. Valkyrie Squadron was a private civilian squadron specialized in private contracts, primarily for defensive flight. On a mission over Glee Anselm, one of the squadron's interceptor pilots fell ill and it was Zacara's chance to shine. Flying in her first mission, escorting a VIP sail barge out of the system, a group of marauders attacked the client. Zacara aimed for their bombers, scrapping both of them and earning herself a permanent position on the squadron once the regular interceptor pilot was discovered to be unable to return to active duty.

Zacara would fly in several dozen missions with the squadron, being one of the group's two interceptor pilots, even returning to Glee Anselm at one point for a special underwater mission in which the group piloted underwater craft like aquanauts. Special commendations and bonuses were earned for other missions such as Kuat, Naboo, Shili, Ryloth, Coruscant, Taris and Mirial. Zacara, Valkyrie 02, had a penchant for flying defense and specialized in keeping her clients and her squad mates safe while they executed their missions.

A mission to Zeltros, however, would see the end of her career as Valkyrie 02. The mission was to escort BlasTech board members from their home system to a space station near the Zeltros system for an important meeting with the Zeltros government. Marauders had word of the destination and they intended to capture the senior BlasTech management alive. The marauders attacked in force, using a fleet carrier to drop more than a dozen fighters, as well as firing itself upon the sail barge containing the board members. Two Valkyries were chosen to land on board the sail barge when it was clear that the marauders were sending landing parties, and once inside, a battle ensued. Zacara had remained outside, intercepting marauder fightercraft when the call came that craft in the hangar had been sabotaged. Only the starfighters from Valkyrie Squadron were operational. The top members of BlasTech were ordered to launch the fighters and get to safety, and a call came out that the marauders' leader, Ooma Kraas, had been among the landing party. The call came out to destroy the sail barge, and it was Zacara that was closest, and able to take the shot the fastest. Ending Kraas would surely end the string of attacks the marauder clan had taken against corporate executives lately. Zacara took her A-Wing there as quickly as it could fly, firing missiles at the drivecore and ending the sail barge, the marauders, and the members of Valkyrie Squadron that had been on board.

She blamed herself for this, even when the remaining members comforted her and assured her she had only followed orders. She had killed her own squad mates, even if it was for the greater good, and the overwhelming guilt saw her resignation from Valkyrie Squadron, and from squadron work in general for nearly the next decade.

Fall From Grace, Arrest

Canto Bight

In the years after Valkyrie Squadron, Zacara needed work but all she knew how to do was fly. Spending some of her savings on a YT-1210, which she named Star Sailor, Zacara began to move freight to various places out of Coruscant, where she had lived since her employment with Valkyrie Squadron, which was based on the megalopolis. Cargo work as a profession is excessively boring, however, for a hotshot pilot, and it didn't take very long for her to want more action or thrill out of her new profession. The Star Sailor was okay for the work, but it had some qualities to it that could find some more interesting work, she soon realized. Hidden compartments thought to have been containing ship systems had her thinking, and before she even realized it, she was taking shady deals to Corellia or Nar Shaddaa. First it started with forged documents, then progressed to spice, and Zacara had become a fully-fledged smuggler in a very short period.

Among her contacts was a spice trader that had an easy job offer for her: get he and two of his friends in to a casino on Canto Bight, wait with the ship for three hours, and then take them back to Nar Shaddaa. The pay would be great for what was essentially a wait-with-the-ship job. They wanted direct access to one of the casinos and she knew she could do it. Getting the trio in was no problem for a smooth-talking smuggler. She was there to drop off supplies for the kitchen, she told them, and the casino security didn't find it very suspicious. Nor were her three deckhands suspicious, as they carried crates inside the casino from Star Sailor. She waited for the ship as she was instructed, but in three hours it wasn't the clients that returned to the ship: it was casino security. Charged with accessory to robbery, Zacara received a ten year sentence in a Canto Bight prison, her ship impounded, and imposed with fines larger than she could even pay at the time.

Ten years was only seven, however, as her good behavior and her work ethic in the jailhouse workforce was met with an early release. She was even able to recover the Star Sailor back from the Canto Bight government, though it would be banned from the system indefinitely. Flying herself back to Nar Shaddaa, Zacara knew she'd need to get out of the smuggling game, but she still needed a thrill. She still needed an adrenaline rush.

Service With Aldera Squadron

Remember Alderaan

Zacara had been away from her home system of Alderaan for a long time, but when the call went out to all prospective pilots to enlist in the newly formed Aldera Squad, Zacara's inbox pinged with an alert. It had been well timed. She was fresh out of jail, looking for work, and ready to redeem herself. She was ready to fly an interceptor again. And, most importantly, she was ready to go home. She'd spent more time on Coruscant and Canto Bight as an adult than she ever had on Espirion as a child. It was time to go home.

Zacara met with Bors Thul of Aldera Squad in a suspicious space station bar over Nar Shaddaa - an accommodation for her by the graceful Lord - and she was invited to train with the squadron. And train she did, for more than a month, before finally receiving an offer to fly one of their new RZ-2 A-Wings and the title of Aldera 05. Zacara happily took the opportunity, nearly immediately deploying on her first mission with the squadron to the Omwat system. She hadn't flown in seven years - flying isn't possible behind the bars of a cell. But the talent was still with her, even if it was a little rusty. Before, she flew with Valkyrie Squadron for the thrill, and a paycheck. This time she flew in defense of her own people, the Alderaanians. And who says she couldn't find some thrills while she was at it?

Her first mission was a success, and her squad mates seemed to accept her. She was finally on the path toward redemption. Several more missions would follow and she would be seen as a team member who would use unconventional, yet effective tactics and maneuvers to see her missions accomplished.
